The tampering rules prohibit “[a]ny public or private statement of interest, qualified orunqualified, in another club’s player to that player’s agent or representative, or to a member of the news media.” The rule includes this example of prohibited statements: “He’s an excellent player, and we’d very much like to have him if he were available, but another club holds his rights.”

looks to me like we have a pair of technical violations of the rule - both owners sentenced to one day of community service.

Sack you know well there is a difference and so do I. What you probably should be more concerned with is the fact that Woody is concerned enough with the tampering charges against the Jets that he's desperately trying to deflect attention away from it. Personally I believe he's trying to insert himself into the situation to try and manipulate the outcome as "offsetting fouls", this isn't going to work. The Jets will end up paying the Pats something, better to just do it and move on with the offseason.

Do you not see how desperate a move this is by Woody? He is clearly very concerned over the penalties the league may impose on the Jets for tampering. For the record Kraft's comments, Bob Kraft- “We thought we made a very competitive offer,” Kraft said yesterday from the league meetings at the Arizona Biltmore. “I speak as a fan of the New England Patriots — we wanted to keep him. We wanted him in our system, and we have certain disciplines. We had hoped it worked out. It didn’t."
Those comments do not fit the Leagues criteria for tampering no matter how you spin it, and in addition, they do not fit the leagues criteria for showing a potential negative impact on the relationship between the team and player.

Bottom LIne is..PATS could have kept him and the comments wouldnt have meant anything...when they let him go, ON PURPOSE, any team could have got him..it was not a PAT or JET scenario at that point....
or maybe kraft is so worried about deflate gate that he cried to his best buddy goodell about an off-hand comment woody made.
