Tanking or simply rebuilding?

Is the team tanking this year for that #1 draft pick of a QB? Or simply rebuilding, in hopes that Hack or Petty is the man? We all can see the team is in a major youth movement mission but does that necessarily mean the team is tanking the season? Media seems to think so but is that really what the team is doing?

Guess it really doesn't matter because if Hack or Petty does truly suck, we'll end up with the #1 pick anyway. However; if either QB turns out to be half way decent, they may not go that route. The team will lose 14-16 games if either of these QBs truly suck, and 10-12 if their half way decent, IMO.

Either way, the team will have a top ten pick at the least and should be able to draft a QB regardless. The question is, will they and what exactly is their game plan here?

Tanking is really hard to do. If they had Tom Brady and benched him or cut him that would be tanking. Cutting old, non productive players is just good business financially and it will give valuable playing time to the young players. Great year to evaluate players. If they get the #1 pick it will mean many of these players are not NFL caliber.

I think the team sees the advantage of short-term losses for the benefit of long-term gains. Get the roster younger and more athletic, allow for the kids to get some experience and the front office a chance to see which kids are legit, and in the meantime, lose enough games to get one of those top picks.

I have way too often see this team go the short-term, free agent route to become competitive quickly, but with no strong foundation. This is about foundation-building.

It seems that way but that will only be correct, if they play Hack this entire year. Petty as well but mainly Hack. If they play Mccown then this is all for nothing. Totally kills the rebuilding idea and it means to me, they are just stupid. So let's see what their plan is come game one of the season. Mccown shouldn't see the field PERIOD this year!!! Other then injury to both QBs or both their play is just that horrible.

McCown should be a Jet for potentially two reasons:

1. Teach the kids how to handle themselves in the film and meeting rooms, and
2. Bring the #1 overall pick with him, as he so often does.

Doesn't it really depend if Bowles has that same thinking. If he doesn't have a hall pass from Woody for this year than he's gonna do everything he can to win, including starting McCown maybe more games than he should.

With all the moves the team has made if Woody has not given Bowles a hall pass he needs to fire him now no matter how it looks. They can't afford to have Bowles screwing up next years pick.

IMO, what your saying would be true if Mccown was a QB worthy of it. He's been a worse QB his entire NFL career pretty much. Even worse then Fitzgarbage. 10 teams and he is now 37 years old. What or why the hell would TB think the Jets could possible win with that. I don't even understand why the the Jets picked up Mccown. Not saying I wanted them to keep Fitzgarbage because HELL NO I didn't but Mccown???

If ten teams didn't want Mccown then why should and would the Jets? If we were talking about Kaepernick or Cutler I could understand but Mccown, really!!! TB is in a lose-lose situation regardless here so he might as well play Hack the entire season. He probably has a better chance of the team winning more games with Hack or Petty then Mccown anyway. So TB has tuff tuff choices to make but not playing Mccown shouldn't be one of them.

So are the Jets going to cut the rest of the 30 or older players on the team, except Mccown of course? I think there's only 4 players left including Mccown.

Despite the talk otherwise, they have to be tanking. Listen, this goes against everything that Woody Johnson is all about. Ever since he became the owner he has always looked for the fast lane to success? In 2004, they spent big bucks getting free agents, in 2008 they spent another boat load of money getting Faneca, Woody, Jenkins, etc., in 2015 spent a shit load of money. That has ALWAYS been (at least since Woody has been the owner of the team) the way the Jets do things.

What they are doing now is so shockingly different? There has to be some truth to the tanking accusations?

Now, it shouldn't be considered such a bad thing, even if they are in fact tanking the season. In many ways it's a very common sense approach. If you always have high picks, you do not necessarily have to go with the best available player like Mac is so prone to do? When you're picking that high you can identify the very best players and always have access to selecting them. You can always trade and accumulate a lot more picks. There's many benefits/virtues that sports writers will never you, the fan, about.

But as I have mentioned so many times before, Mac and the CS is now walking a rather thin line. Think about all of the backlash that could come their way if tanking does not work? If they end up being the Cleveland Browns

This plan has 2 ways it can fail.

(1) .Bowles lets the team win just enough games to lose out on all the franchise QBs.

(2) Mac gets the high pick need to secure our franchise QB but chooses wrong.

Both hurt but I think (1) will sting more.

Agreed. But I wonder if Toilet is good enough to get this team to win this season? For me he's a pretty horrible coach? This is why I think the 2nd scenario could be more likely to happen. Mac could even Draft great players but Toilet is unable to get them playing at their best. Honestly, for me, before this rebuild started, I think Mac should have fired Toilet.

Why do tanking and rebuilding have to be mutually exclusive?

The Jets are doing a complete rebuild and tanking is a probable side effect of that. To me, it's a win-win situation. If we are better than most expect, that probably means that there is a future with either Petty or Hack. If we do poorly, then the QB of the future is not on the team, but we can select one with a high draft pick.

Well, that's the bright side of this. However, careers will likely be at stake? Rebuilding? Tanking? Take your choice of what you think it is, but if you're a fan of Mac and Toilet, you won't like what happens to them? One, if not both will get fired if this season goes as bad as most think it will.

I've got to tell you 13, I know it sounds insanely idiotic, but I understand why Woody structured the hierarchy in that manner? You might think I'm crazy for saying this, but Woody did not want another Rex/Idzik fiasco? From all indications, Idzik had a hard on to get Rex fired. Probably didn't like his mouth or anything else about such an extrovert? Many New Yorkers feel the same way about Rex?

The problem with hamstringing Rex Ryan is that John Idzik showed his own true colors in the process of trying to fuck Rex? He showed that he was clearly incompetent in his own right.

No matter whose fault you think that is, the point is Woody learned he did not want that to ever again happen? He knew he did not want a person that's supposed to be an adult, willing to act like a 14 year old school girl and go on a personal vendetta against a coworker?

Now, I have nothing to provide in the way of evidence to back up my claims, but I do find it rather ironic that right after Jets fans had to endure such a soap opera, that Woody would permanently change how the organization works? Especially, when he had never done it before.

casserly & wolfe sold johnson on bowles.. maccagnan was basically forced into a shotgun wedding..

for better or worse, my thinking is a GM should be given the responsibility to hire/fire his own HC..
