Teams interested in Wilkerson

Every player has a price tag as far a I am concerned. If the Jets can get two 2nd's, a 3rd, and a 5th for Wilkerson, with the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th coming in THIS draft, then I say do it without hesitation. It's a great deal for the Jets to pick up several needs in the 2nd and 3rd rounds.

On a personal level, I would hate to see Wilk traded. He's been a great guy, hard worker, consummate team player, it just seems so wrong to do something like that.

However, this IS a business. Morals and personal ethics do not play into these decisions. Mac needs to do what is right for the NYJ regardless if that hurts one persons feelings or some in the fan base.

id do it for #2 and a 2nd next year.

That is probably the most we could get. Maybe a first round pick, but that would be it. If Revis could only get one first and a conditional third, that would have to be the ceiling for Wilkerson. I think he will play out this year, we franchise him and then look to trade him

With the Williams draft pick, I say do it as long as they get the right offer. What that would be I don't know. Before the Williams pick I would have said hell no but now its different.

Whoa, surprised there is no update posted here.

The two teams I nterested in trading for MO are Browns and Raiders. They asked about a trade and the Jets asked for 2 #1s . They obviously said no.

Reports are MO wants $40 mill guarunteed.

Lot of guaranteed money. I still think the Jets find a way to give him his money. DL and DB will make up a sizable chunk of the cap.

That seems reasonable and is far from "Suh money". Much less than Watt as well. I think the deal gets done especially with Macc cracking jokes about selecting another DE.

We have the Franchise tag in our back pocket if we have to use it. Hope it doesn't come to that but bidness is bidness

Days after the 2015 draft, Mike Maccagnan continues to say he isn’t trying to trade Muhammad Wilkerson, but that hasn’t stopped the Jets defensive lineman’s name from coming up in talks with other teams.
“Mo’s name comes up, but nothing at this point in time,” the general manager told ESPN Radio on Wednesday. “We’re not actively shopping Mo, that’s not part of our plans. His name comes up periodically at times, but nothing active right now.”

That's called enhancing your bargaining position. MacDaddy has a lot of leverage going into this contract negotiation!
1) He can hold onto Mo for 2 more years at a reasonable $9-10 mil/yr avg.
2) He drafted someone who plays the same position and was a collegiate All-American at that position
3)He's lessened the pain a Holdout would cause the Jets with Leo on the roster and Coples as a backup plan.
4) The threat of a trade is always a concern to a player, because you don't have control over where you are traded...Cleveland??TB??Minnesota?? Ouch!!

I think MacDaddy is looking to lock up Mo on a fair team friendly deal that saves us a $Mil or two a year and keeps us Cap flexible moving forward

Nice job MacDaddy!!

always best to play from a position of strength - in negotiations if you must get what you are bargaining for you will pay more - in the draft if you must get a certain position, you will be compelled to reach

this front office played free agency in part in a way designed to avoid being in a MUST situation

the gift at #6 has helped them be in a good bargaining position on this

Now, i hope and trust they will not push too far. If you use a good bargaining position to get a reasonable deal, it is great. If you push too hard you can alienate the player. Pigs get fat, hogs get slaughtered....

Great post. Macc does have all the control over this situation, and either way, we're going to end up in a good position. Either Mo gets a long term deal down the road, and our d-line remains dominant, or we trade him to a desperate team willing to sell the farm for him. Macc won't just give him away. Win-win.

The true test will be if Mo starts missing the mandatory OTA's . If I was MO playing in your home state on a rising team and was a piece of a top Defensive unit I would settle for a fair contract.. If he's looking for a JJ Watt lite deal he's either going to be traded or be unhappy for the next 2 years..

If we were playing a base 4-3, I could see keeping everyone, and even paying everyone. But we run a 3-4 base, and realistically, I don't see how you rotate players making that kind of money. The team is still in the driver's seat regarding Mo's situation, but eventually Maccagnan is going to have to make a decision. If someone's offering multiple high draft picks for him, you have to listen.

How do you figure the Jets can hold onto Muhammad Wilkerson at 9-10 million per year, for next two years.Next year Muhammad Wilkerson is unrestricted Fa, and if they franchise tag him that is closer to 14 million they would have to fork up.( around how much you have to pay the De position)

A team trades for Wilkerson they only have him this year and next year.( if they use the franchise tag too) The franchise tag gets real expensive after that. No team is giving up a lot in a trade without a long term commitment from Wilkerson.

TWo years isn't a longtime for Wilkerson to have a big say where he winds up.

The Jets have to decide if they want Wilkerson. Time to pay him or think about moving him( don't get a fair price than be prepared to keep him.

I agree but we got a late first for Abe who was a All Pro when we traded him. I will have to see what's offered but it won't be as high as some Mo fanboys think..

TBH I don't understand this whole "you can't pay all three" mentality.

Do we really plan on paying another CB $15 mill a year once Revis leaves?

Do we assume we'll have to pay franchise QB $$ in the near future? (That would be a WONDERFUL problem to have, but I don't see a reason to believe it will happen).

If you don't think we "need" all three, that's a different story. But if Bowles finds a way to maximize all three into the new Sack Exchange, I really don't think payroll will handcuff them in the least . . .

Me either. Every team can swallow a half dozen or so mega contracts and those are set aside for your best, all-pro caliber, impact players. If half of them happen to be in the same unit, in this case on the D-line, so be it.
