The worst thing to ever happen to Sam Darnold and the Jets was Adam Gase. Just a total fuck-up of a hire with foreseeable results. Good luck Sam. Hope you can figure it out.

I hated to see Sam go, but it gives us 2 1st and 2 2nds next year to keep rebuilding. I guess its on to Wilson at #2 this year.

am i right that that package of picks is close to the value of a 2022 late first rounder?

if the deal frees about half of Darnolds 9 million, thats another 4.5 mill of cap space - still money for a couple of meaningful free agents as teams make further cuts after or even deals during the draft

If the picks were all this year, the value would the #32 pick. Trade value for next years picks are valued one round lower so the assigned value is Carolinas 6 this year(12.6 points)
Next years 3rd (225 points) and next years 5th (29.4) points. 267 total points ,that is after #64, before #65 so last second or first third.

I'm disappointed that Sam didn't do it for Jets, but wish him well. Hope Wilson is the answer, as everyone seems to think.
Question: Does the $9.8 million come off the books completely?
Not sure if someone already answered. I believe 4.8M cap charge this year and 5m dead money charge next

New environment, decent protection, reunited with one of his favorite receivers.............I don't know. Time will tell. If he fails there he will likely be a back-up for the rest of his career.
Not to mention Joe Brady as his OC.

I had to take some time to truly think out how I feel about this before I posted anything and I have to say that overall I'm very happy. They got true value for Darnold, especially with the way he played. Which isn't saying much at all. I wish Darnold well and he will probably turn out to be at least a better than average QB in Carolina, if not better than that. He's only 23 years old and showed signs here and there that he had the goods. Better support system and team around him than what he had here for three years. Now the Jets probably could have build a monster team around him but I understand why they decided to move on. New coaching staff and a second year GM that didn't draft Darnold, so why take the chance when they can just start the clock over with their guy? They didn't want to have to deal with the fifth year option BS, especially if he flopped this year and then passing up on drafting Fields or Wilson. Speaking of the drafting Fields or Wilson, imagine if either one or both of these guys turn out being beast and Darnold is nothing close to it. That's an automatic firing within the first 2-3 years max.

At least now with them starting the clock over with their rookie QB, they have a chance of lasting a few more years than that, especially with the way Joe D is going to build a team around the rookie QB. Now here is my concerns about this trade and there is a minor and major concern for me. The minor concern is Darnold going to Carolina and doing very well there like Tannehill did when he left Miami. I'm not to concerned about that because I want Darnold to succeed and as long as our rookie QB does well for us, than we have really lost nothing in the deal. Now my major concern is the Jets drafting the wrong rookie QB. It definitely seems its going to be Wilson but I'm VERY CONCERNED about that pick. How is it that Fields has been neck-neck with Lawrence to entire time and all of a sudden, Wilson comes from no where and Fields drops? For no concrete reasons I might add! Plus Fields has played against real competition in the Big Ten and Wilson has played against MUCH LESSER talent. If the Jets get this draft pick wrong and Darnold blows up for the Panthers, THIS WILL NOT BE GOOD AT ALL!

I hate the trade as well ..... It will beat least 3 more years before we have a winning team ... I am getting that Ryan Leaf feeling all of a sudden.
