Continuity means something, and the Jets have fallen into the category of teams who hire and fire on roughly five year cycles. Herman Edwards, Eric Mangini, Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles. Adam Gase will be the next part of that cycle unless we’ve finally found the most important piece: FQB.
I believe we have gotten a better coaching staff in place in Gase and Williams. Gase should help Darnold and the offense after an uninspiring Jeremy Bates last year. Oh, and getting LeVeon Bell should help, too. Osemele, Crowder, and ascending players like Herndon and Darnold will make this offense undoubtedly better.
Replacing Lee with Mosley is huge. CJ has much more leadership qualities than Lee, and is simply a better player. Quinnen Williams will bolster the interior pass rush and take away doubles from Leonard Williams, who’s gonna have immediate opportunities to demonstrate his dominance in one on one matchups. Jamal Adams is on an All Pro trajectory. I do have concerns about the CB position because we’re hoping for TJ to bounce back and Darryl Roberts to put his big boy pants on for 16 games, and maybe playoffs. If Polite shows up, the CB position becomes less worrisome. (Better outside rush= less cover time)
I see a 4-5 game improvement. There’s no reason why the Jets can’t be in the playoff discussion by mid December. Anything less than 9-7 would be a major disappointment. The young draft picks should be ready by now, and FA should have a big impact.
