Things to look for in game two!

Might as well get this going. All of us are thinking of it, what can our team do to fix this thing? At least for this week and hopefully build on it from that point on. So here’s my thoughts:

1. Offense has to start fast and put up some points. Obvious answer I know but it’s how they need to do it that might be different. They need to run a hurry up offense for the first three drives at least. Get Darnold, the oline and these receivers in a grove of moving fast and putting up some points. Even if it’s three straight field goals, it’s better then nothing.

2. Speaking of field goals, Nuf said!

3. Back to the offense, Montgomery has to be on the field more and actually used. Whether at RB or WR, he has to be on the field as much as L. Bell and actually use him. If Bell gets 40 snaps then Montgomery should get 30-40 snaps, 10-15 carries and about 5-10 catches. Montgomery has to be our fourth WR being that we really don’t have any besides Crowder.

4. Get L. Bell the ball more. Bell, Montgomery and Crowder have to be the focal points until Anderson and Enunwa decide they want to contribute also. Also until Herndon returns and then get him the ball ALOT also.

5. The oline looked bad and that has to be fixed. Now the obvious answer would be to trade for Williams from the Redskins but it doesn’t seem that there interested. So maybe and prayerfully it was the first game gitters and gelling with each other, and it might take abit but Kalil in particular looked abit lost. Maybe our starter from last year needs to start for right now until Kalil’s game catches up. He is 34 years old and maybe he lost a lot more then we and he thinks.

6. They probably can’t fix this CB issue immediately so they have to get to the QBs fast and I mean FAST. Sack or not it doesn’t matter, disrupt the QBs from throwing the ball. Gregg Williams has to do something to change this. One thing I believe is start Q. Williams and bench the bastard who starting ahead of him. Both Williams and Anderson need to be on the field as much as possible. Pressure has to come up the middle every down being that we have no edge rushing. Q. Williams can do that!

Note: the Browns looked worse then we did and got there asses handed to them yesterday. Mayfield and the team definitely got there wake up call which might be bad for us. Then again this may just be who they are and the Jets will beat them next week. I don’t have much confidence in this upcoming game but the Jets didn’t get beat to death like the Browns did. They gave the game away and caused four turnovers in the first half that they should been capitalized off of. Darnold didn’t throw an int after putting the ball in the air 41 times, nor did he fumble. The Jets should have won this game by twenty at least but lost it. If they could have made a field goal they most likely would have won the game. They weren’t hammered like the Browns were and I guess that’s a positive. So we’ll see what happens this Monday. Who’s real and who’s not!

A new kicker.
Later

you'd like to think that if we had a kicker that we would have won yesterday. Simple math says you're right, but Jets 101 says that we would have found some other way to lose. from at least as far back as Rex, if the Jets had a 4th quarter lead and the other team had the ball, you could call vegas and put your bet in for the other team and you would win

A kicker most likely would have sealed the deal for us. However, kicker isn’t our main issue. It’s one of them but by far not the main one. For a defense that caused four turnovers in the first half and a offense that couldn’t score a legit 21 points, off those turnovers or just on there own possessions is an embarrassment. Some way-some how they should have scored a lot more on offense. To not be able to do that is just ridiculous. CB is also an astronomical disaster for us. Anderson and Enunwa not stepping up sucks but I’ve been saying it since this offseason that they’re both tier three guys at best. Meaning they are excellent number three to decent number two WRs at best. Number one WRs they are NOT! Oline is a major issue last but not least. Darnold may have looked pedestrian yesterday but if he has no time to throw the damn ball and no one to throw it to them what do any of us expect?

I agree on all points. Hard to turn that much around in one season. I just hope to see improvement as the season goes on . Improvement that leads to hope for the future if belichick ever retires

At the end of the day we have two shiny new toys in Bell and Mosley. Both are great players, but this team has so many huge holes that it will take 5 years of perfect drafts to fix. This year was not about winning a SB, but getting Darnold better. The reason you don't spend megabucks on Bell and Mosley is they will both be out of their prime by the time this thing gets fixed. Mac put us in such a deep hole with no real talent or depth.

Agreed. The way they look right now it will take 2-3 years to fix this correctly. If this is truly the case then Bell and Mosley will be out their prime by then, and their signings are pretty much a waste of money. We all had high hopes that the Jets did enough to be at least a wild card team this year but I guess not. They probably should have stuck to what they we’re doing about two years ago and continued building through the draft only.

Not signed Bell, Crowder or Mosley, trade the Q. Williams draft pick for two other first rounders and two second rounders and draft correctly. Draft a top flight oline men, pass/edge rusher, CB and WR. This ofcourse would have only been possible if they would have fired Mac when they fired Bowles, and they then hired Douglas when they hired Gase. But as the saying goes, “If, if was a fifth then we’ll all be drunk”

well, guys, 5 years is a long time. and you can't waste money on big time players when you got nothing else, yeah.... but....you need some leadership to spark things. Jamal Adams, not enough but a start and that's why we paid Mosley. After yesterday, I'm sure that that was a good signing. If we are 1-5 and he can't lead then, then I am wrong.

Kalil, I"m not sure about. I wanted to draft o line. tons of them until we get it right. As usual, I'll use cheatahs as the example. Last night brady was the statue of liberty and untouched for almost 3 quarters. Plenty of QB's would be real good with the kind of line play

Douglas has o line ties. he knows what's up and he will draft o line. If not, then something must make GM's lose their mind when they become a Jet and we have no hope ever.

I hope we can make this better next year with so new online and maybe a good o line coach. and then by the next year be competitive. If no, this regime will be on the cutting block and we'll be starting over again. it has to happen that fast.

for the amount we have seen Q , and I know it's early, but for the amount we have seen him, I really wish we had traded down for o line. that was my choice anyway

Next game is OBJ's breakout. He runs all over our secondary. 28-27 Browns, it won't be a blowout because that would be too easy for us fans. Last-minute 'heartbreak', late TD or missed PAT, so that the comms can keep bringing it up for a week on every other sports broadcast you try to watch.

Hopefully Douglas is the guy to make the correct picks. When the Cowboys stopped letting Jerry run things they turned it around. I want a team like that. We have the QB and to MetalCloak thats all we have. The rest are just shiny things, JAGs or garbage.

Parcells came in, spent big bucks on a running back and a center and turned us around in one year to what should have been a superbowl win and he followed the Kotite years. so it is possible

Adam Gase ain’t no Parcells. He hasn’t proven himself to being that but hopefully he does. The Giants Parcells, not the Jets Parcells that got us right there but was to old to see it through and get a few SBs.

I just want Darnold to play the way he played last year against the Texans and Packers. I want him to continue to improve but we need the oline to be strong so he can step into throws.

Agreed. Progression needs to continue and he needs exactly that. Oline has to give him more time. He also needs WRs to throw the damn ball to and having only a slot receiver just ain’t going to cut it. Could you just imagine if they didn’t have Crowder yesterday, WOW! Anyway, a lot of this might be on Darnold as well. We all know he’s better out the pocket then in it. He knows that also! So bye yourself and the WRs some time and move out that pocket when necessary. Maybe that extra second or two will get them open for a possible play or even a big play, at that. Not much confidence in that statement, trust me in that but you never know.

Kalil's advice to the young QB: 'When the pass rush comes ripping through, lie on the ground and pretend to be dead and eventually they'll lose interest and go away'.

In fairness to Darnold I've now watched several of yesterday's games and nowhere else was the QB surrounded by defenders at every snap.

Yup he had no time for most of the game to even step into his throws. Plus he has no WRs getting open other than Crowder. Not a good recipe for success. Now I believe and it could just be me that he’s much better on the run or out the pocket then he is in the pocket. So move out the pocket and buy that extra second or two to help those garbage ass WRs get open for a pass. Other then Crowder he can’t depend on any other WR. At least for right now. Ofcourse he can depend on Bell and Montgomery but they are RBs or listed as that anyway. Herndon isn’t available right now. Now if Anderson and Enunwa decide to ever join the party then ok but until then...

I agree with your first sentence, but SD had Anderson open 3 times deep and missed each time. The first two he underthrew and the third an overthrow. He hits one of those its a win. The OL play was really bad, and IMHO was the reason for the offense's poor performance. Hopefully, it was mostly communication and the lack of time the group actually played together.
