Unless your a team like the Broncos from last year (although P. Manning may not have been the throwing Manning of old but he still was that mental threat that beat teams mentally). Or the Ravens, Big Ben's first SB Steelers, Bucs or the Bears of the 80's (you all get my point), QB is the key. It all starts and ends there. The Jets have to get and establish that rookie or (hopefully) young QB that is already on the team. Now hopefully Petty or Hack can be that guy for us but the problem with that for me is, I'm not quite sure they are. Of course I hope they are but young QBs of today seem to reveal their the guy or atleast they can be the guy, year one!
Look at Dak, Wentz, Cam, Luck, Carr, Bortles, Stafford, Big Ben, Flacco, Ryan and Wilson for example. Hell, Paxton Lynch looked very good today. Now you also have the guys like RGIII or Sanchez that flamed out. Now all those guys besides Sanchez and RGIII, I mentioned haven't won or even been to a SB. However; they have shown they can lead and be a franchise QB and not all franchise QBs win or even go to a SB. So IMO, it doesn't matter what you do about any other position, without that young franchise QB we have nothing really. Petty looked great in pre-season, so he might have the goods but if he did then why isn't he starting?
Is it because their just stupid and don't see it in Petty or just to scared to go without Fitz as the starter? Is it because he got hurt in the pre-season or else he would be starting? Or is it because they see a lot more of him then we do and he honestly isn't ready or doesn't have it period? Ofcourse none of us know the answer to that but the next few weeks should tell the tail. Ofcourse Enunwa, Anderson, Jalin and ASJ should or will be a nice bunch or WRs and TEs. The Jets still need to find that young bell cow RB or stable of RBs by committee.
The oline will work itself out hopefully. The defense has that true nucleus of young studs in the front seven. The secondary is our issue it appears. The Jets might want to trade either L. Williams, Richardson or Mo for some young stud secondary or RB help next year. This new regime built this team to win now but fell way short at QB. Funny thing is, you put a true quality QB on this team and the Jets are probably 3-1 right now. Give us anyone of the QBs I mentioned above or some of the older vet guys like Rivers or E. Manning or Big Ben and this team is now a contender IMO.
The fact that this team has been built for now with older vets but doesn't have the QB to carry us there makes this all for not. It's also going to make this a hard 3-4 year rebuilding process. If this is the case and Mac and TB doesn't change this quick, they may be looking for new jobs after this or next year. Now ofcourse you have QBs that need a year or two to get there and that may be the case with Petty or Hack. There is also Rodgers who waited three years but I think that was mainly because of who he was playing behind. Rodgers was probably ready to go his rookie year.
