Update: Deebo Samuel has officially ask to be traded

My concern with a guy like Samuel is that how he is used may impact his ability to stay on the field, and at that price tag I'd rather develop a cheap alternative like Velus Jones.

The 49ers went crazy with Samuel last season on the jet sweeps. It’s a big part of their offense. But the funny thing is, they didn’t need to. They have another stud in George Kittle that should’ve been used more. But I digress…

The Jets can limit the amount of those touches to Deebo by spreading the sweeps to Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios. They are more than capable of taking some of that workload. And Deebo can just ball out as a big target/YAC for Zach. 1. Deebo. 2. Elijah Moore 3. Corey Davis. Slot: Berrios/Elijah Moore. Profit.

Or they could draft a slot guy and use Moore and Berrios the same way AND save 30+mil per. Just sayin.

didn't they use Berrios as a wing back last year and he scored twice? can use Jeff Smith that way too. Think they want Elijah Moore long term they will be sparingly on using him as a RB but those other two well short term investments.

I believe so. I feel we should develop these guys from the get go. The Jets are in an interesting situation. Yes they needed help at all positions but it gives this Regime a chance to start from scratch. To build at every position gives you chance to put together like minded players that fit your scheme and culture. Its one of the reasons why I wanted Saleh. He is exactly the type of HC to grow with the team and keep them motivated. I am extremely excited for the draft and TC. Let them all grow together from the HC to the last gunner on ST.
Thats why I say do not give up valuable picks and cap space for someone we maybe able to draft with the same skill set.

here is the take from a few reliable sources, remember when the media stated that there was a rift between Robert Saleh and the 49ers when we hired him, taking all their coaches with him? what you think that expired after one year? geez if we were interested I know Douglas would be able to get Deebo but at what cost, they would try to ask for more in spite of Saleh. Stay away is what most in the organization are saying, lets continue our rebuild through the draft there is always potential we just have to discover it and develop it and this way it is extremely affordable allowing us to splurge on our own players.

This is the mindset I love. Hopefully they can stick with it. The quick fix never works. We, as Jet Fans, know this through bitter experience.

I usually do not advocate signing the big name FA’s every March when all that craziness starts. We all have painful memories of LeVeon Bell and Trumaine Johnson. These players used past production and name recognition to secure a deal beyond what they’re worth. The Jets used to fall for this scam. JD made sound moves this off season. Every player is solid and playing on a team friendly deal. Smart GM’ing.

With all that said, you’d be naive to think that JD isn’t going to be involved in Deebo talks if that opportunity presents itself. The Tyreek Hill situation showed that we’re looking to push this team forward now. Yes, it was Miami all the way, but JD reportedly made a big push for Hill. That says two things: we really want a star WR for our young QB, and we’re willing to give up draft picks and a large contract to make it happen. Deebo Samuel isn’t a “has-been” trying to capitalize. He’s a legit #1 with or without the gadget plays. Literally every draft analyst agrees there’s no Ja’marr Chase in this draft. Not London, not Wilson, not Williams.

We’ll be fine continuing on in rebuild mode if this doesn’t happen. But the Jets really need some star power to start competing in the rejuvenated AFC.

Wants to be traded?
That's like the little kids who want the different colored lollypop.
And if the parents cave in and give it to him, if he doesn't like it, he'll cry for another color?
Wake up , Deebo. You signed a contract.
If you want to go to another team, you will be able to do it in the future under the rules of that contract.
Man up.
I'm sick of stories like this.

It’s the way the NFL is changing. Very similar to the NBA. (Albert Breer just wrote a great article on it today). Teams don’t want disgruntled players, and would rather get high draft picks from other teams than have that distraction lingering all season. Players are gaining leverage and can gripe their way out of town. I’m not saying it’s right, but it’s the way the game is changing. Deebo Samuel doesn’t want to be a hybrid RB/WR because he knows it’s going to shorten his career. The 49ers have increased his RB role significantly since last year. So if a team can utilize him more to his traditional position (WR), then a deal might happen. I believe he’s a great WR just in that primary role. But we’ll see what other teams think.

Everyone seems to think the 49ers are going to resolve this situation. I’m not so sure.

I can't see paying 24+ million and high draft picks for Deebo. Those high picks could be useful elsewhere (3-4 starters). Possible All-Pro's and maybe a player or two better then Deebo. Whose to say in a year or two, Deebo may want to restructure his salary to be the highest paid WR.

Jets, Lions, and Packers are the 3 teams that are showing interest in Deebo Samuel if he becomes available, according to ESPN.

I’d be shocked if the 49ers traded him to the Packers. That’s a team the Niners face in the playoffs quite a bit.

Tony Pauline has it that the Jets are willing to part with #10 for Deebo.

If the Jets do this, do they trade down from #4 to get two firsts this year?

Trading a premium pick or two much less a huge contract for a guy that his current team thinks they can replace with a 4th or fifth rounder (Velus Jones) makes no sense to me. Samuel’s value is because he can line up at RB and WR, not because he is a great WR. He doesn’t want to be a RB/wr, he views himself as a WR and if he is traded will not want to do what has made him valuable. I think and hope that JD sees this craziness as well.

well as much as they been scouting Velus they are also scouting Jameson Williams heavily from reports. But puts things into perspective if you are a team on the outside looking in.
