Well. I have to say that Fields didn't help his draft stock tonight. I will concede that he was playing injured but it was more that that. His accuracy and decision making were off tonight. So..........was the Clemson game a fluke ? I didn't watch him a lot this season so I don't know. The best receivers in the game were on Alabama, and, especially Smith. Olave wasn't bad and probably would have looked better if Fields had played better.
I agree with you to a certain extent. Fields obviously didn’t help his draft stock but I don’t think he hurt it either. OSU was clearly outmatched in that game and it wasn’t much he could do with that. The fact that he did what he did being injured at that was impressive to me but I can’t say it was enough for him to be drafted #2, I must admit! It will all come down to what the new HC and Joe D thinks about him and Darnold for that fact.

They will must likely keep Darnold, give him this year to prove himself and build around him. So even if he does flop, the team will be better build for the next QB they draft next year. There is a very long shot of this but they may also consider drafting a QB this year in the later rounds that they think can take the job from Darnold. Not quite sure who that will be but not every franchise HOF QB is drafted in the first or second round.

I didn't see anybody who looked like a stick-on #2 draft pick. DeVonta Smith could be ours (probably displacing another Smith from the roster). He's injured so he meets our usual criterion, but is he Robbie in disguise? I didn't see him win a contested catch. I wish we could have used Robbie as creatively as Sarkisian used Smith. Loads of guys we could take from #5 on. So we'd like to trade down, but we say this most years and can never find a partner.

last year Douglas did fine finding trade partners moving down up left and right throughout the entire draft process so he will likely have suitors for that #2 pick overall not to mention all the other picks throughout the draft...

I do. He made some really good throws but got rattled. And when he was going bad, he kept to himself on the sidelines rather than being vocal on the bench. Not a good look for someone who should be a leader. I like Zach Wilson better.

If it was my decision and if the opportunity presented itself, I'd trade down. Besides DSmith, Najee Harris really stood out to me and if on the board at #23 I'd grab him.

depending on who is the new HC the only way to go is DeVonta Smith over a QB if Darnold is the guy to build around...

sign a FA like Allen Robinson, Denzel Mims is legit #2 and Smith could be a dominate slot...

talk about going from no weapons to having arguably the best receiving core in the league overnight...

While puzzled that Alabama's Jones isn't mentioned in the top quarterbacks to draft conversation, I'd put him there!
We have, IMO; Fields, Jones and Zach to give me my annual hope. Now I'd add DeVonta Smith and look for a QB next if available and worth losing Sam. I didn't forget both lines. Thanks Seattle! For the picks, and taking Adams!

I have a friend that is a huge OSU fan and he said he is Haskins without the attitude. He said he looks like he doesn't care or is sulking when things go wrong. I did notice that last night and the other two times I saw him play. I would like to get a stud WR and then build the OL and trade out of #2 while grabbing an extra 2nd round pick and maybe a 3rd. Grab Mac Jones or Trask later in the draft. We can't miss on the #2 pick. We either need to hit a home run or grab lots of picks.

So now the talk is that the Jets should draft this Alabama WR Devonte Smith at number two. This dude is absolutely amazing and a true game changer. He’s an electric kid with abilities all over the place but drafting a 5’10, 170 WR at #2 is too risky for me. Thoughts!!!

I tend to agree with you on this. I like him a lot as a piece to the offense, but at #2 I don't think so.

DeVonta Smith should not be taken at 2, outside the top 3...

I trust Joe Douglas will have the pulse of the draft and what teams are likely to do, remember he traded down and still ended up with Mims...

Smith is terrific, but............the NFL might just be a bit on his body. We all could be wrong, but historically how many "great" college players did not make it and not because of skill sets? Robby Anderson so far is in a good fit and defying the experts. I'd stick with a QB, and hopefully get some value for Sam.

When NFL CB's press cover him he will struggle. If he has free release he would be very good. I would trade back and then take him.

for all who don't know the guy I want to be drafted for right tackle played left tackle this season and had this behemoth Deonte Brown at left guard, he is not a tackle and he surely is not stationary he is capable of moving in space run blocking and plowing down defenders... He is excellent in pass protection has not allowed a single quarterback pressure nor sack in his entire career believe three years at Bama, not bad..

During the night I heard a host on Fox Sports Radio say the Jets should get another QB besides Sam. He maintains
we know what Sam is....keep Sam, draft a QB, get other draft choices....trade up, trade down, sell short.

Pick #87 Andre Cisco safety from Syracuse.
thoughts. Ball hawk, excels in zone etc. will will be playing a lot more zone coming up. Switch Davis to back up slot corner where I think he has the speed to do well.

I'm curious as to the type of players that you need in a 'Shanahan' offense, and is it a shift in what JD drafted last year. I read it's a zone run scheme which requires more mobile OL able to get to the 2nd level, backs that are one-cut able, and quick AND speedy WRs. It will be real interesting to see what JD and Saleh are looking for in draft and FA to stock LaFleur's (?) offense. I also read that this offense is a much better fit for Darnold's skillset and that both Saleh and LaFleur think that there is untapped potential in Sam. I'm not sure where the writer got that, but it is my hope as well.
