Update: Jets picks for 2021 draft

I'm not sure what the Jets will do in terms of Sam and the draft but I know that trading away the draft for Watson is a mistake. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have Deshaun but the cost for a team with as many holes as the Jets have is simply to high. He will most likely cost more than Stafford did and the Jets cannot take that hit and be competitive. That's reality right there. So while the idea of Watson is attractive the cost is most likely too high.

Will they roll with Sam? I don't think so but it's a possibility. If they keep him and trade the pick to a QB needy team so be it. The draft capital would be worth it regardless if Sam panned out or not.

I would prefer trading Sam and drafting whomever is available at that spot. I truly feel that we could see a repeat of what happened in Sam's draft when the Browns passed on him and took Baker. Could Meyer pass on Lawrence and take Fields or Zack? It's possible IMO but unlikely. Still I think this coaching staff may want to draft their guy behind Center and trade Sam. It's just my gut feeling but it makes sense. I believe Sam will be traded and the Jets will roll with Zack. If the Browns scenario develops and its a choice between Fields or Lawrence or Lawrence or Zack l take Lawrence over Fields and Zach over anyone. I just think Zach is going to be the best out of the 3. I could be wrong but it's just my preference. Either way it will be fun to watch and speculate on.

At this point Watson is my 3rd choice at QB because of what it will cost. Wilson is my 1st choice at QB. Or trade down get more picks and draft Mac Jones. I'm also reluctantly ok with running it back with Sam, but only if we can trade down for many more picks.
I don't want Mac Jones. He is supposed to be a very good "deep thrower" but I think that is because his receivers at Alabama outran everyone. His arm isn't that strong. He reminds me of Y.A.Tittle who got the reputation as a long thrower but he threw high arching ducks. His long throws would die in the winds of the MetLife Stadium.

Historically with the Jets, the draft has truly been a crapshoot. We have a lot of picks. We need a proven QB, and some other ballers.
Do good draft picks exist sown the board? Certainly! Is JD "just another Jet "shlub" as usual? Looks like nope, so while I can see he's not a spendthrift, in FA you sometimes have to spend.
Cleveland is the recent template.

Impressive. But I still see a lot of throws to receivers who were covered or double covered. I still see throws where he didn't look off his receivers.
I also see throws where the announcers said "incredible catch" or "What a catch" or "How about that catch?".
I can see why he will be a first round pick, but I'm reminded of Steve Tensi.
He had a great bowl game in which he threw five touchdown passes and it got him a high draft slot.
But three of those TDs were to a guy named Fred Biletnikoff. I think at least two of the great receivers we saw in that clip may go on to have better careers than Jones in the NFL.
But, as Dennis Miller used to say, "That's my opinion and, I may be wrong".

I hate to say it but just by saying we have so much draft capital that we're going to build a strong team is a stretch .
Either with Sam or not.
I haven't seen the Jets do this in like forever. So I don't trust it at all.
Get the QB that will lead this team and build around him.
Not the other way around it.
Unless you think you have the Ravens Super Bowl historic defense and can win with Dilfer.
Heck , Dilfer played lights out compared to Darnold ,so I'm not sure that would even work with Sam, in fact I highly doubt it.

We need an offense! Instead of going poor with Deshaun, draft Zach, a free agent WR, we have Mims, a solid running back, and....
from today's N.Y. Post...
The final four teams in the playoffs this past season — the Packers, Bills, Buccaneers and Chiefs — finished Nos. 1, 2, 3 and 6 in the NFL in scoring, averaging between 31.8 points and 29.6 points a game.

It's a smart play.......... it's coming from the Jets so that might take some getting used too.

What so hard about drafting an explosive Offense. The offense line is out there in this years draft. Just find the tree that we can re pick Wesley Walker, Al Toon, John Riggens and Chad Pennington.

I would sign up for that draft right now, although I doubt that some of the players will be available in the indicated slot. For instance, I don't see how Etienne will be available at 38. Every one of the receivers in that list have the potential to be really good NFL players, Wallace and Collins could be real sleepers. Slater and Horn would be starters from Day 1 with all-pro potential. Meinerz is another guy who might be gone before that projected pick, but if he's there - gimme! Yes, I would literally be ecstatic if that were the Jets' draft.
