It depends, if Fitz had to stay off the leg, petty will get reps until Fitz can practice. If petty looks good Tuesday and Wednesday, they might"baby Fitz" back to health and let petty stay in this week.

if Fitz has to stay off his leg then the CS will split reps between Petty & Hack, instead of giving Petty the much needed reps to prepare...

Is this verified? To me it doesn't seem logical. When they were competing for qb2, yes, but pretty won that competition. Now you have 2qbs on the field, qb2 moves up to qb1 role until qb1 returns,no?

Finally a sound argument for sitting Petty again this week.
Nobody has been more vocal about the need to transition to Petty than me, but I agree that if Clady and Mangold are still out, it makes more sense to stay with Fitz for at least another week. The Rams are not a very good team, but they do have some lethal pass rushers and the QB could be under siege this week if the O-line is still banged up. Let Fitz take the beating instead.

if Fitz is sidelined or has to stay off his leg, why wouldn't they split reps with both youngsters... come Sunday wouldn't Fitz be inactive?

The season is a wash regardless of who plays QB, so I would really rather see the Jets lose out and finish 3-13. IMO, a season like that shows Mac all he needs to know about Bowles and fires him. We get a clean slate with a new HC and a great draft choice.........
LOL, gotta get it however we can being that our HC and GM aren't smart enough to clearly see what blind people can see from Fitz and bench his ass. If their not smart enough to do it then maybe it will come about another way. Wishful thinking and fingers crossed!!!
Let me apologize and say this is probably all my fault Jets faithful... Maybe this is on me and others like me who dislike Fitsgarbage as much as I do with a FUCKING PASSION, that TB won't see the light and bench that Hack of a QB for Petty or Hack. Maybe God is punishing us. I want this so damn bad and have been on Fitzshitty's ass for so long that maybe were just doomed with this idiot until (who knows when). No matter what happens, we just can't seem to get rid of this guy. I mean this is worst then the Sanchez crisis. At least Sanchez was a young and developing player at the time and we all hoped he would blossom but he didn't. Fitz is a old washed up journeymen who was never that good in the first place.

Then he has a very good season all to nout because they don't even make the playoffs. Then these morons resign him, which was understandable but I be damned if I didn't want him back. Now we have this horrid season to deal with, in which he should have been benched a game or two earlier then he did. Then when he finally gets benched, Geno gets hurt again without even playing a full half and now TB won't bench him again even though this seems to be the perfect time to do it.
Knowing our luck, no matter how Fitz plays and whether he gets benched or not, they will probably resign his ass for a three year deal for $60 mil. So I know I'm reaching and over exaggerating here but what the hell is it? Does Fitz have photos on TB, Gainey, Mac and the Johnson doing drugs together or running a train on a prostitute or at some weird perverted S & M club or something? I mean what the hell is it, REALLY??? If it isn't that then is God just punishing us fans who what Fitz gone so bad, that it's not morally correct to think the things we think. Obviously this isn't the case but I would really like to know because the Jets are obviously out of the playoff race. With any QB on our roster and if TB or anyone else on the coaching staff or management believes they are, they're idiots!!!

No way in hell do you go into the week splitting reps not knoing who your starting QB is. To have an "open QB compition at this point is ludicrous . If it's not Petty or this is what they do its and indictment that this CS and management have zero confidence in Petty. If he's still injured , that's another story , and the they need to bring in another QB.

did you forget already they had an open competition splitting reps between Petty & Hack when Geno was placed on IR... understand it was for backup but the point is they had to have some confidence in both knowing there could be a chance they would play if or when Fitz would get hurt...
now that Fitz is hurt they still have confidence in both but we really don't know how close of a decision it was to name Petty a backup...
I have been following Petty since Baylor and know his deficiencies and what he will need to overcome to be an NFL starter... He has improved immensely from last year but there are concerns his lack of experience in the words of receiving and redirecting the play call inside the huddle to the players is problematic at this point... Being that he hasn't done it in high school nor at Baylor this is his Achilles heel...
He is a smart kid, and probably has improved but how much really...
Hackenberg on the other hand has more experience with a pro system, receiving and reiterating play calls to the team in the huddle is second nature for him... For Hackenberg it is more his mechanics and footwork that are a mess at the moment...
Whomever it is, they won't name a starter until Wednesday at the earliest... Could even wait until Friday to really give Fitzpatrick enough time to see if he can shake the cobwebs out and be ready for Sundays' game...
