I like Bridgewater, but I fear he is an indoor QB. I don't know if he can push the ball down the field in the cold of NY.
Jets had a very good day. I think they handled the QB situation perfectly. Trumaine Johnson is a great signing. And Crowell is a very solid back, who is still young. He's a good fit for the offense we are going to run. If we resign Claiborne and get some help at other positions (center would be one), this would be a really good FA period. I like the Bridgewater signing because he definitely has the potential to be a long term starter if he works out. It also gives the Jets some flexibility in the draft. I still think they need to draft a QB - but they have some flexibility.
Totally agree Sack - if healthy, and can regain his form, he's a good player - smart, mobile, pretty good arm, and can run a pro offense effectively. He's also a very high character kid. Of the FA QBs out there, he is the best value, again if healthy. He's been out of football now for quite some time, so it will take him some time to get his game back. But, if he can do that, he can play.
Not upset with the signing at all and makes sense but I’m hearing they also resigned McCown to be the starter. Plus are still expected to draft a QB at #6. Sorta confusing if this will be the case. Bridgewater if healthy and before he got hurt was turning out to be a very promising QB. Plus he’s only 25. Signing McCown to no doubt be the starter is counterproductive to me. What’s the plan here?
Draft a QB at #6 to sit and watch, while Bridgewater sits and watches also? While McCown plays us into another 5-11 season!!! Now I’m assuming if Bridgewater is healthy he will no doubt and easily beat out McCown for the job and if that’s the case then what? Bridgewater won’t be your bridge QB, if he’s healthy and plays to his potential. I’m so burned out with this team. Hope it all works out, is all can say.
I agree about McCown and another 5-11 season. Bridgewater will and should win the job. If he picks up where he left off we can sign him long term. To me, if you think he can get back to where he was then you don't draft a QB this year. If you don't then you do draft one. If the Jets do draft a QB, then it should be Bridgewater as starter, McCown as backup and rookie as # 3. This team will never win with McCown.
I don't get the fustration with the Bridgewater signing. McCown is a needed vet prescence on and more importantly off the field. Bridgewater at $5 million is a steal. If he is healthy, you have a potential FQB for years. If he sucks he's gone possibly before the season is over. Very low risk, very high reward signing. If the rookie lights it up, you trade Bridgewater for a future pick. You know someone will need a QB due to injury.
IMO, it's a very solid move.
And it's not the 1st NY Jet QB to have a devastating knee injury
