I like Bridgewater, but I fear he is an indoor QB. I don't know if he can push the ball down the field in the cold of NY.

Jets had a very good day. I think they handled the QB situation perfectly. Trumaine Johnson is a great signing. And Crowell is a very solid back, who is still young. He's a good fit for the offense we are going to run. If we resign Claiborne and get some help at other positions (center would be one), this would be a really good FA period. I like the Bridgewater signing because he definitely has the potential to be a long term starter if he works out. It also gives the Jets some flexibility in the draft. I still think they need to draft a QB - but they have some flexibility.

Exactly how I feel.

I forgot about Claiborne. We need to prioritize signing him back. He did a respectable job last season. And the depth chart isn’t very pretty after Skrine. Juston Burris was a disappointment.

It seems pretty clear that the Jets aren’t completely confident they have their long term answer at QB. Adios Petty and Hackenberg. Time to take a risk and move up in the draft (if we have to) for the QB of the future. Jets fans deserve it. We’ve waited waaayyyy too long. Pull the trigger and get your future QB in this draft. IMO

Totally agree Sack - if healthy, and can regain his form, he's a good player - smart, mobile, pretty good arm, and can run a pro offense effectively. He's also a very high character kid. Of the FA QBs out there, he is the best value, again if healthy. He's been out of football now for quite some time, so it will take him some time to get his game back. But, if he can do that, he can play.

He was back most of last season and practiced fully so he should be able to get back on track right away. He only had a hand full of plays in his one game appearance , 4 plays and a couple of kneel downs but he moved well and the knee looked fine. Hopefully it holds up over the course of a full season.

Not upset with the signing at all and makes sense but I’m hearing they also resigned McCown to be the starter. Plus are still expected to draft a QB at #6. Sorta confusing if this will be the case. Bridgewater if healthy and before he got hurt was turning out to be a very promising QB. Plus he’s only 25. Signing McCown to no doubt be the starter is counterproductive to me. What’s the plan here?

Draft a QB at #6 to sit and watch, while Bridgewater sits and watches also? While McCown plays us into another 5-11 season!!! Now I’m assuming if Bridgewater is healthy he will no doubt and easily beat out McCown for the job and if that’s the case then what? Bridgewater won’t be your bridge QB, if he’s healthy and plays to his potential. I’m so burned out with this team. Hope it all works out, is all can say.

I agree about McCown and another 5-11 season. Bridgewater will and should win the job. If he picks up where he left off we can sign him long term. To me, if you think he can get back to where he was then you don't draft a QB this year. If you don't then you do draft one. If the Jets do draft a QB, then it should be Bridgewater as starter, McCown as backup and rookie as # 3. This team will never win with McCown.

Agreed. Don't know what the Jets are thinking by signing them both but that's the Jets so why be surprised or even ask the questions. Bridgewater should beat Mccown out with his eyes and ears closed and his throwing arm behind his back on each throw (if he's healthy). My question is if Bridgewater does come back to form and stay healthy, then what? He'll win the starter job and have a decent to excellent year. Then what do you do with a 25 year QB that is still getting better? He can play 10-15 years with all the chips falling correctly. Guess you just don't get into that until you have to. Only time will tell!!!

Had to pay to keep McCown but Bridgewater is who they probably are hoping wins

If this means we're not drafting a QB in RD 1, our GM should be tarred and feathered, then lit on fire, then shot .... in that order.

BTW McCwon is your starter in 2018, GUARANTEED, because Bowles wants to suck his balls if it means even 5 or 6 wins.

So we kept the guy who played pretty well for us last year who is a good guy, great mentor, and team player. We then signed a young backup who could end up being great, and all for just about half the price of Cousins. From everything I see, none of these 4 qb's in the draft is a sure thing yet they may all get picked before the 6th pick.

As far as I'm concerned, unless someone is so sure about one of these kids that they are willing to stake their job on it, then we should grab the kid from Notre dame with our pick. I don't know what makes me think that online is important, but I just get the feeling that it is.

Let's pretend Bridgewater is in the draft with these Other kids. Wouldn't he be considered pretty equal to them. Plus he's older and should be more mature and we got him for 5 mil without using a draft pick.

We don't know how good Bridgewater will be but the same goes for any of these kids in the draft.

If Andrew Luck was in the draft then heck yah, we need to do everything we can to get him, but he's not, so lets build the rest of the team

I don't get the fustration with the Bridgewater signing. McCown is a needed vet prescence on and more importantly off the field. Bridgewater at $5 million is a steal. If he is healthy, you have a potential FQB for years. If he sucks he's gone possibly before the season is over. Very low risk, very high reward signing. If the rookie lights it up, you trade Bridgewater for a future pick. You know someone will need a QB due to injury.
IMO, it's a very solid move.

No qualms about it .
Teddy will start .
Josh is there if Teddy gets hurt again.
Good move
As for the rookie QB , we have to see who's left.

Just get rid of Petty and Hacker so we can move on from that

Got to agree here. Bridgewater hasn't had significant playing time in two years. It's going to take him some time to adapt to our system and get back his pre-injury skill set. We need McCown to help him and our new QB along and to start until one of them is ready to assume the rains, This was a total win for us. We may have struck gold with Bridgewater and if we didn't we haven't mortgaged the farm.

I think the Bridgewater signing was brilliant. But as has been mentioned here, he’s been out of football for basically 2 years. He’s far from a sure thing. That was a horrific knee injury. I’d give him 50/50 odds of returning back to what he was. Plus a new system means starting over, learning a new language, etc.

And at 5 mil it's terrific
even if he plays on one leg he's better than Geno who also got 5 mil

The thing about his horrific knee injury, he's a QB.
He probably needs to wear a brace and if he rehabbed it correctly and the Doctors say he is good to go then it's going to be a hell of a signing.
He went to the probowl the year before he got hurt. He won rookie of the year before that. His arrow is pointing up.
He plays up to his old potential, the Jets got a steal. They cab resign or even franchise tag him going into next year.
What this means going forward is the pressure to draft a young QB is lessened. Bridgewater is only a year or two older than these kids coming out, and he has NFL experience. Even better, he has already excelled in the NFL. The only hiccup is the knee, that he is two years removed from injuring.
If the Jets take a QB at 6 and Bridgewater turns out to be back to his old form or better, then the Jets have the best case scenario,

And it's not the 1st NY Jet QB to have a devastating knee injury

I think the knee is fully healed. He was cleared to play in the preseason but the Vikings put him on IR and he resumed practice immediately after week 6 . All the reports were positive and players, coaches and the Bikes beat reporters all said how shocked they were that he had no limp and how his movement showed no sign of injury.
He also ran a west coast style offense at Louisville so he should be a good fit.
