And no did not hear anything specific just spit balling here.
Let me explain, Quinnen made a business decision not to seek an extension this off season, okay no big deal he is signed for another year with a team option. BUT, is he hoping to get another pro bowl (alternate or 1st team) selection to boost his 5th year value to maximize his overall value to start negotiations from that $20 M base salary?
This coaching regime and GM Joe Douglas did not draft him, so technically they are not tied to his career. But anyone would be foolish not to include him into their base defensive core. Last year he was on a snap count not just him but the entire defensive line. In the middle of the season, knowing JFM would be a free agent after this season they gave him an extension (he is the type of player that fits Saleh's defense) to make sure he does NOT leave in free agency. Ok smart move I guess, might of paid a tad more than he is really worth.
The Jets in free agency this year and the draft could spell what the long term plans are.
The Jets will have to pick up Q's 5th year team option this off season, does not mean he is logged in as the future piece on the D Line but allows the team to hold his rights for a potential in season trade next year or after next season move him for draft capitol.
Now I am all for keeping Q, but the bigger picture is he a real fit and will we pay this man a considerable chunk contract for services for a role on the d line that could be a defensive line by committee type system?
Thoughts?
