What (Realistically) Would Be Acceptable In A Trade Down

If the Jets were to trade down from the 6th pick, what do you feel would be an acceptable team to trade to and what would the compensation be. This would be if we signed a FA QB. I would want to accumulate picks, mainly 1's and 2's. Buffalo, I think would be a good trade partner.

it all depends on which team wants to move up to 6...

say the Az Cardinals then from 15 they would have to give at least an additional 2nd and 4th...

but say if the Bills want to move up they would have to give up both 1sts and a 2nd this year or another 1st 2019...

then again the Browns would offer 2019 1st and 3rd along with a pair of 2018 2nds including a 3rd...

Most likely scenario would be the Bengals if there is still a QB on the board they want. I think the Browns and Giants both take a QB , Colts take Nelson, Arizona Trades up to 4 to take a QB
Denver could take a QB but could also have signed a FA QB also.
The Bengals give us the #12 pick and their second round pick #44.
Other teams could want to move up for Barkley too, I could see Tampa Bay taking him at 7 so someone may want to jump in to our spot for him.

Would that be for the Browns second round pick? Could be a good trade. Could package the 2s to move back in to the first round to grab Price, still have 2 seconds and then having an early first next year with our pick would really go a long way to solidifying the roster.

I would like to trade with the Bills for possibly there 2 1st Rd and there 2 2nd Rd picks if they are willing trade partners. This would give us 6 picks in the first 2 Rds or 7 picks in 3 Rds ultimately giving us 6 or 7 starters. We can't keep on drafting one or two starting caliber players every year. This could be the year where the Jets take a big stride in being a team to watch out for.

That would be a major haul for Mac. I think it's a little rich though. Their 2 first, #s 21&22 and their second from the Rams &56 would more likely.

that will never happen... could get the two 1sts but 1 2nd at most... the Bills would try to screw Maccagnan by offering the 2 2nd rounders with one of the two 1st... and after what we have seen with him he might be gullible and take it...

as for the Browns it would be

2018

R2: 33
R2: 35
R3: 65

2019
1st
3rd

would be acceptable for them to take the 6th overall especially if they trade down from either 1st or 4th overall... they will trade one, and get a haul for it then may want to trade back up and have the ammo to do so... but again this trade scenario is very highly unlikely...

the trade that makes sense is a deal with the Cardinals, stockpiling a 2nd and 4th this year, then:

for us to move back to 15th then maybe making a deal again with the Browns and taking those two of their three seconds along with next year's 1st and then a possible 4th would be perfect...

at the end of the day this year is NOT a year to draft a QB because there is too many questions...

this draft is deep with many starters can be found in rounds 2-4... so for us with this top pick moving back and stockpiling could end up with 5 2nd rounders with a double trade down... gathering an additional 4th would allow us to fill starting roles in five major positions, maybe the entire offensive line?

I'm just curious, If with a double trade down and having (5) 2nd Rd picks. Wouldn't it be better to trade down with Buffalo and having (2) 1st Rd picks (22,23) and (3) 2nd Rd picks (37,49,56)?

if we have 2 firsts then we have 2 5th year team options that this team isn't one or two players away from competing... We need more picks and having 5 2nd round picks we are filling more needs especially in this draft we have too many holes on the offensive side to fill not to mention do we have any corners? edge rusher? or you willing to pay free agents on what they have accomplished to this point and then relax and go on vacation as our own first round prick Mo Wilk...

5 2nds

33. RB Sony Michel, UGA
35. OG Willy Hernandez, UTEP
37. CB Quenton Meeks, Stanford
47. LB/S Terrell Edmunds, VT
49. OT Brandon Parker, NC A&T

3rd OC Frank Ragnov, Arkansas

Sony Michel is a play maker at RB, kind of well rounded like Bilal but has two additional gears of speed and quickness... How many years do you think Bilall has left?
Willy Hernandez would replace James Carpenter who could be a cap casualty on a decline...
Quenton Meeks has all the intangibles could even go in the first round and if he is not there then Jaire Alexander out of Louisville would be the next pick here...
If they believe Demario Davis has reached his peak and let him walk in free agency Terrell Edmunds would be the ideal match to play alongside Darron Lee...
Brandon Parker has the athleticism and leverage to be a long time starter at the left tackle position...

Frank Ragnov could start the year on the Non-football injury list basically redshirt him a year if the Jets don't get the free agent center they are seeking... Ragnov is the arguably the second best center in this draft and no one would be upset if we grabbed him...

I still don't see your logic on how (5) 2nd Rd picks are better then (2) 1st Rd picks and (3) 2nd Rd picks.

there is no talent that we need in the back end of the first round with Bills 2 first that we can not get in the second round... with the ability to get more picks in the second round then we dont can build without having that 5th year team option that will balloon contracts where those 2nd round picks become more affordable if we can re-sign them...

Center (Price) I doubt will make it to the 2nd Rd. You also don't know if someone will slip to the 22nd pick of the 1st Rd who might have been a top 15 pick. Possibly an ER, ILB,CB, OT. I know what you mean by the 5th year option. I personally would rather have the 2 1st Rd picks to go along with 3 2nd Rd picks

between Price, Wynn, Ragnov, Daniels & Welsh are the top centers and would be happy to get anyone of those...

Price is the best but not by much, Ragnov is just as good and Wynn is also up there both Ragnov and Wynn will be there in the 2nd round is all I am saying...

As for ER, this team literally doesn't think highly of this position... Just look at the two outside linebacker prospects we have selected... Jordan Jenkins (steal) 3rd, Dylan Donahue (jury still out) 5th not to mention what they think about Lorenzo Mauldin ( I know what we think )...

The best ILB is Roquan Smith will likely be gone by 18th overall, but he doesn't fill the need of this style defense... Our team likes safeties not just in the secondary...

There are two corners that will be elite zone defenders but our defense needs man press corners which could be in the back end of the first but likely three of them be there in the second...

As for Tackle, after McGlinchey the talent is questionable... Wynn will kick inside to Guard is a capable Center option... Williams would be lucky to be a right tackle to start... But Parker that I stated from NC A&T has the size, strength, athleticism and plays with leverage and will be there in the back end of the second...

not everything should be first round talent, just because a lot of first round talent slip down into the second round... we need to compliment our roster not just take the best available...

yes I admit I would love Price but in the end would be more ecstatic to get 3 offensive lineman in the second round where when their rookie deals are up we have some leverage just because we drafted them not in the first but second... here is one example a LT 5th year team option would be $ 22.7 M five seasons from now... But a LT in contract talks after a 4 year rookie deal could be gotten for an average of $12 - 18M annual... The numbers are ridiculous and especially after that 5th year team option that player will be seeking to have an annual salary above that team option, even if they aren't worth that money... I want to draft to develop and at worst be able to have some sort of trade value, not have a bloated value because the rookie CBA is flawed...

I truly understand your thinking of 2nd Rd picks. Just remember past 2nd Rd picks by the Jets. You, me and just about everyone else on this site can pick All - Pro players in the 2nd Rd, but this is the Jets we are talking about. Mac will probably pick his 2nd Rd players from Timbuktu!

nothing is for certain, but the idea on why they took certain players fit what the team was projecting and maybe they reach with certain talent, that doesn't only fall on the GM, and coaches but the scouts didn't fully do their homework on those prospects...

we got lucky not once but twice in the first round... the third in Lee is still out there for debate but he has progressed from first to second year and we hope he will take the next step to be that dominate center piece at the second level of our current defense...

Devin Smith was the idea, then we got RA who is what we wanted from Devin prior to the injuries...

Christian Hackenberg was a project we all knew that and for people to now saying they give up on him is straight BS... Noone knows if he can hit the right side of a barn or can he rip it through a tire swing moving side to side... This is his defining year to flop or take the next step...

to be honest this year's second round out played our first rounder and we have found two key juggernauts for present to future success for the team at those two positions...

the key more picks you have the more chances to find those long term options, if you fail with those first rounders it hurts the team's long term potential... first round selections the majority of their four year deal is almost 100% guaranteed nowadays as second round selections get less than 50% worth of guarantees that dry up usually in year two sometime minimal in year three...

what I am saying no prospect is a sure thing, and a team in full rebuild could take a big step forward with more picks to add to the roster turnover... we can't wait for five years to start developing players we need talent now especially if it is to be depth this year with the option to rotate in get snaps build stamina and technique so come next season we may be that team that is one or two pieces away from the complete overhaul of what they started last off season...
