yes they are highly productive players.. smith is not..
Brandon Marshall was traded for a 5th, Fitzpatrick for a 7th, and Anquan Boldin went to the 49ers for a 6th. All highly productive players.
i don't know where smith will be next season, i just can't see it being with the jets..There are only two football management people out there who would be stupid enough to give the Jets anything after seeing tape of his two years plus one game of Ryan Leaf level QB play
And it's not certain that either Tanny or the Buffalo circus clown will survive after the messes they have made of their franchises this season

IMO, his jets career (under bowles) was over as soon as coach bowles found out about how & why smith got rocked..
granted, i only give bowles a pass for apparently not being aware what was festering in his locker room (for weeks) is that this is his rookie season..
plus, fitzpatrick is clearly a willing mentor but not surprisingly (to me anyway) it's always about trying to make petty a better QB, without any mention of smith.. ever.. ask yourselves why that is??
LOLz rhetorical question..
that's a pretty cool picture..Yep Fitz and Petty are pretty tight. I posted this pic yesterday, but think it fits here also.
Those are Fitz's kids hanging out with Petty. That speaks volumes about what Fitz's and Petty's relationship is like.

optimistic fitzpatrick truly believes his young buddy can become a legit NFL starter..
keep the two of them together as long as possible..
i haven't felt this optimistic about our QB situation since before pennington's right shoulder got ruined..Agree. Yes, optimistic.
A guy can't teach another player how to throw a rocket. Either you can, or you can't. Petty can. Fitz can teach Petty how to be an NFL QB though.
I know I'm being a total homer, and being way optimistic, but I really think Petty is in a situation that he has an Opportunity to be an excellent QB. I think Fitz has a good chance to be a catalyst in that. That has a lot of value to me.

IMO, that's not being a "homer.." that's believing/acknowledging our front office knows how to evaluate talent, maturity & leadership at the QB position..
oh & fitzpatrick & rookie head coach bowlse legitimately seem to enjoy their "QB head coach" relationship.. throw in gailey to the mix & you have what we've seen so far..
all this with petty being groomed (properly) in the wings..
refreshing, yes??
LOLz i'm sure from a bargaining standpoint, mac would have preferred rookie coach bowles keeping those thoughts in house but it ain't the end of the world..Yes.
Bowles did a very uncharacteristic thing today. He said he wanted Fitz back nex year. Then acknowledged he hadn't spoken to Macc about it. "But we will". Fitz said he'd love to be back. He's moved his family here.
I'd put money on it that Fitz is back next year. And probably the year after.
I'm good with that.

fitzpatrick has earned at least a two year deal.. even if both sides know it probably will need to be reworked year two..
& a deal like that (length wise at least) could have fitzpatrick retire as a jet, possibly as petty's backup??If I had to put a number to Fitz's new deal, think it will read like a big deal, but won't be. My guess.
5 years, 30 million. 12 million guaranteed, and to be paid out over the first 2 years. The final 3 years will be at the Jets discretion.
Sounds like a lot, but in all honesty its a 2 year 12 million contract. Chump change today for a starting QB contract. Hell the Jets paid Vick 5 million.
