I am trading for Watson assuming it is not much more than 3 first round picks.
He is an established top 5-8 QB in the NFL.
Having said that, if they can’t land Watson I am totally fine with them drafting Wilson/Fields.
The scenario that I question the most is keeping Darnold. He was atrocious last year and blaming the weapons and Oline just doesn’t do it for me. He was ranked as the 35th overall QB last year. That isn’t a typo. There were backups that performed better than him.
I hear you and I’m with you on this one. I voted the same in the poll for Watson at a reasonable haul. I’m not that big at all on Z. Wilson and maybe that’s because don’t know much about him. I’m good with the J. Fields and I’d much rather the Jets trade down in the top 10-15 at worst and hopefully Fields is still there. With a trade down like that the Jets could get a huge haul, not to mention something pretty decent for trading Darnold.
They can build a ridiculous team around Fields at that point and hopefully the kid will show and prove he’s worthy of it from year one. Not saying a 12-4 record huge playoff run in his rookie year. That’s probably not reasonable but an 7-9/9-7 record would show he did his part and the entire team is headed in the right direction. I believe by his third year, Fields stats will be ALOT better than what Darnold’s was and I can see that coming vividly.
What I’m not really good with at all is the Jets sticking with Darnold but if that’s what they choose to do I’ll trust in them and hopefully it works. I can definitely see Joe D and Saleh wanting to give Darnold this last year to show and prove he can improve and become a franchise QB. Whether they trade down or draft someone at #2 and build around Darnold he has to improve SIGNIFICANTLY this year to make me a believer.
I would need to see stats somewhere in the range of 3200-3500 yards at least, 65% completion percentage, 25 TDs (can be running and throwing), to no more than 10 ints. I would also need to see him be more of a leader of the team, especially the offense, creating these stats mainly from the pocket. Reading defenses, making the right decision and picking them apart and only running/emphasizing when he absolutely has to.
This to me will show true growth, leadership and him showing franchise QB qualities. The team record would probably be a 7-9/9-7 record. Can he do this, I don’t know but under this coaching staff and Joe D building a true team around him correctly and trust and believe in the CS and Joe D, anything is possible.
