Malik Hooker, a safety from OSU, is another interesting possibility. Daniel Jeremiah said he's the best ball hawking safety he's ever evaluated. Dude has a nose for the football. As good of a free safety prospect as they come, and covers TE's well.

I'm guessing the Jets could use a little something like that?

Yes they could use a little something like that (is he really small?), but not with their first pick. If your front four is regularly putting the opposing QB on his posterior, there may not be too many balls to hawk.
For all their press and promise, this front four (that's what it should be, based on the talent) doesn't get as many sacks as it should. Help at pass rush, as well as on the O-line, should be the priority.

Here is Kiper's explanation for that projection, as the Jets pass on quarterback Deshaun Watson, whom Kiper projects at No. 10 to Buffalo:

Lattimore is another first-year starter who jumped to the top of my cornerback rankings with a stellar season. A hamstring injury limited his time on the field in Columbus in 2014 and 2015. Speed, size (6-foot-1, 190) -- he has all the traits to be a star. Darrelle Revis could be on his way out with the Jets -- or move to safety -- and Lattimore would slide into his spot on Day 1.

Kiper is maybe 20 % as good as ESPN thinks he is.
He can't even pick a decent barber.

LOL That we do! I like that safety from above

Not sure drafting a DE is going to end well with this fan base. There will probably be riots in the streets demanding Maccagnan's job. And I say that as a big proponent of BPA. But I don't think I can stomach another d-lineman. The safety from Ohio State, Malik Hooker, is my choice right now. He'd be a huge upgrade over Gilchrist. We need deep coverage, TE coverage, and some turnovers in the worst way.

I am just hoping for a good draft. Last years draft was solid except for our first 2 picks. I would love for Lee and Hackenberg to have break out yrs in year 2. This is truly a rebuild next few years. If we can release a few vets to free up cap space, sign young solid FA's and possibly trading a couple of players to acquire picks and play our young players to see what they have it would be great. Coaches are in a win now mode to bolster there resumes. I am hoping our Draft can be talked about for years as one of the best in the NFL. I can dream, can't I ?

from around the net, Tennessee's edge rusher/outside linebacker Derek Barnett is climbing the big board... he was second to Tim Williams in draft stock but with Tim Williams recently published drug related off the field issues, Barnett's stock has soared into Top 10 consideration...

not saying he should be the pick but he should be in the running...

for me right now three prospects could/should be at the top of our big board:

Corey Davis, WMU (Comparison to Terrell Owens)
Derek Barnett, UT (Comparison to Cameron Wake)
Reuben Foster, BAMA (Comparison to Patrick Willis)

The jets need to stop drafting DE's who have played their whole lives with their hand in the dirt, and using them at OLB. Ive seen this script way too many times before, plus DE is the absolute last thing we need. If this team picks a D lineman round 1 again I may literally stop being a jets fan. No thanks Barnett

Derek Barnett may be listed as a DE but it is for a 4-3 defensive set... For a 3-4 he would convert to OLB...

He has the tenacity and athleticism to make the move... The only reason I put him on the board is the actual state on how the coaching staff feels about Mauldin is questionable at the moment... Barnett unlike Mauldin would be an every down linebacker... Mauldin can still develop into an every down backer but if he hasn't done it by now it isn't likely to happen...

Like most here people were chatting about Cam Robinson as a possible pick but his stock has taken a hit because of other prospects stock rising... Robinson was a top five pick a few weeks ago not has fallen just outside the top 25...

My true option right now is sitting just outside the first round and I believe his stock will rise, last off season he was ranked as a Top 25 candidate he suffered an injury but returned to finish off the season strong... Another Volunteer in Corner Cameron Sutton...

Currently he is a part of the Senior Bowl South Team Roster, expect him to elevate his current ranking of 38th overall which actually was 49th last week to crack the first round post Senior Bowl...

i agree with 89..

at some point, we have to stop drafting like the smartest guys in the room..

i'm sick of this organization & their annual "square peg in a round hole" routine..

just for laughs, how about drafting a kid who doesn't have to learn a new position in the pros??

especially in the 1st round for goodness sake..

Here are a couple of very solid picks at 6:

- I threw this out there in another thread - Mike Williams. He has the body and skillset of a dominant, game changing WR, and would be a young QBs meal ticket. It would push our young WR corps over the top as far as potential goes.
- Ruben Foster ILB Alabama. Perfect compliment for Lee at ILB.
- Ss Jamal Adams or Malik Hooker. Both would step in immediately and be impact players at the safety position.
- Marshon Lattimore. Need a stud CB, and this kid has the goods.

Sometimes the positives can mask the negatives but looking at weaknesses and areas of improvement can shun scouts from selecting certain prospects... Now all the prospects you mentioned 15 have a lot likable traits but have some major issues come the Combine and Pro Days will become more glaring and hurt all of their stocks...

Here is a breakdown of the negative or areas of improvement each of these prospects have to work on at their current state... Maybe nitpicking but end of the day the good is not only part of each prospect...

Mike Williams
The most substantial concern with Williams is obviously the neck and how he returns from such a distressing injury. No one would blame him if he thought twice while going over the middle of the field or if he doesn't attack the football with the same vigor. The fracture might be fully healed, but where Williams is mentally will be something scouts examine with a microscope this fall.

Aside from those concerns, Williams is prone to tipping patterns and needs to add polish as a route-runner. Needs to be more consistent in winning contested balls and eliminating some costly drops on potential big plays.

He delivers pop as a blocker, but needs to better sustain to be more efficient in the run game.

Reuben Foster
At times, Foster appears too athletic and aggressive for his own good. His sharp pursuit angles leave little room for error and, at times, he can get a little too far over his skis, flailing his arms to keep his balance while throttling down to change direction.

Savvy quarterbacks can manipulate Foster with their eyes and he'll lose track of receivers around him, closing the gap between them only after the ball is being thrown. While this can result in some big collisions (and passes broken up), Foster can improve his coverage with greater route awareness and patience.

To this point, Foster's calling card has been his explosive hits, but he has to be careful about lowering his head when tackling. Further, he remains unpolished as a pass rusher. While Reggie Ragland often was asked to rush the quarterback in 2015, Foster typically remained out in coverage, only occasionally blitzing. Foster's power and aggression shine through when rushing the quarterback, but he is largely reliant on a simple bull rush or shoulder dip, at this time.

Jamal Adams
He shows great trust in his teammates, sacrificing himself to funnel ball-carriers back inside toward the rest of the defense rather than attempting to make every tackle on his own. In doing this, however, Adams appears to take very risky angles to the ball and can lose sight of it, at times. Often put in a position to "shadow" mobile quarterbacks, Adams can be a tick late in determining whether to rush up-field or drop back into coverage when they slide out of the pocket.

Malik Hooker
Wild pursuit angles dent his batting average as a tackler. Lowers his pads with an accurate strike zone, but needs to clean up his mechanics when breaking down to be a better finisher. Trusts his eyes and follows the ball, but vulnerable to misdirection and play fakes. Aggressive style in the secondary can lead to incorrect guesses. Limited experience as a blitzer. Room to get stronger and improve his functional strength. Inconsistent physicality and leverage taking on blocks near the line of scrimmage. Basketball was his first love and still young in football years - only one season as a collegiate starter.(desire is in question, if his momma needs to motivate him to play football over basketball)

Marshon Lattimore
Lacks ideal bulk and length on his frame. Plays near the line of scrimmage, but rarely jams, allowing receivers to make first contact and knock him off the route. Needs to better play the ball with his back turned to the play. Bad habit of grabbing when panicked. Can be fooled by body/head fakes and needs to better anticipate routes and concepts. Occasionally plays small as a run defender and needs to clean up his finishing technique as a tackler. History of chronic hamstring issues that date back to high school and long-term durability is a question mark -- required surgery on his left hamstring (Aug. 2014), forcing him to redshirt, and missed time the following season due to a right hamstring (Oct. 2015) issue.

Saw this on Walter Football site. What's most interesting is not drafting Fournette, but that Hackenberg's development behind the scenes has been positive, not the train-wreck we have been reading about. Who knows maybe another smokescreen.

New York Jets: Leonard Fournette, RB, LSU
image: http://walterfootball.com/college/LSU_logo.gif

I've been slotting Mitch Trubisky here for a while now, citing some news story that the Jets had interest in him. Charlie Campbell squashed those reports in his Senior Bowl Rumor Mill. The scuttlebutt is that Christian Hackenberg has developed well behind the scenes, so perhaps the Jets won't give up on him without seeing him play after all.

If this is true, Leonard Fournette suddenly becomes the favorite for this pick. The Jets don't have a viable starting running for the future, and Fournette is a stud. Fournette is considered the top running back prospect since Adrian Peterson, as he's received higher grades than Todd Gurley and Ezekiel Elliott. He was slowed by an injury in 2016, but his tape in 2015 was some of the best a running back prospect has ever displayed.

You don't want other trans to know who you're drafting or they will trade up one spot in front of you for that guy. We knew the hack rumors were just bogus Mehta fake news.

any player for whom any significant commentary includes the word "convert" is off my board for round one for the jets

we need a player who has done the things that we want him to do.

With the state the Jets are in (possible lame duck coach, probable second tier offensive coordinator coming, needing of two tackles and a possibly a center, secondary is mediocre at best and SOJ rearing its ugly head) the only draft pick that would really spark my excitement level would be Watson or Trubinsky. They might not be the best pick but at least I would have a high level of intrigue and curiosity coming into 2017. Picking a safety, LB or CB (which by the way might be the correct way to go) won't change my ho hum attitude about next year. UGH!

Gotta go CB 1st RD.... I like the idea of trading down and still getting a CB and an extra pick in Rd2 or 3
