Would you sign La’El Collins once he is cleared?

$1.7M over three years, all guaranteed. He lost millions over this. Hopefully, he cashes in year 4 when he'll be a free agent. Gotta feel for the guy.

holy crap...they got 3 years of Collins for that? Robbery. Well, it wil be fun to see how he develops. GREAT GREAT GREAT signing for them. Collins OT, gregory OLB, Byron Jones CB, and Chaz Green OT (FSU)...looks like their draft class just got an A+, IMO. Yes, some risk, for sure, but that's a boat load of talent with no injury issues tied to them. i also suspect Gregory will get the Dez treatment...i.e the buddy system. :)

In hindsight it would have been wise to invest one of those 7th RD Picks in Collins just to secure his rights, but I have to believe there was a silent agreement with the league and Collins to let him go un-drafted so he could choose his own team if his name was cleared, otherwise somebody would have drafted him late.

whoa...IMO, oline is our biggest weakness after QB...guess you have more confidence in Breno at RT than I do...

All I know is he pancaked Fowler multiple times while playing OT for LSU. If we dont need to improve and get younger on the oline....then I'm the husband of Erin Andrews; wait a minute, I am her husband. ;)

I was speaking of the Cowboys. I know our OL is average at best and really old.

my understanding my be incorrect, but i thought if a player was drafted and didn't sign, he could go back into the draft the following year. on the other hand, an UDFA does not have that option to re-enter the draft.

if this is correct, then collins' agent probably told teams he wouldn't sign if anyone drafted him (he would get slotted as a draft pick) and would wait a year.

Not a position of need, but neither was Williams for us.

Not to speak for TCT, but I'm pretty sure he meant "not a need FOR DALLAS, just like Williams was for us".

I agree he would've been a great pickup, but if all 32 teams didn't think he was worth a 7th, SOMETHING had to be up.

I guess I'll just have to enjoy watching the Giants run up against a steel wall twice a year . . .

I believe his agent did announce he would not sign with any team that drafted him on day 3. You are correct he would have sat out the year and re entered the draft. That was just a threat and teams could have called him on it with a 7th

I'm jealous that he landed in Dallas, and this makes the Cowboys tougher to beat when we play them.

That said, it could have been worse, he could have landed in the AFC East, but I wish we had signed him.

Oh well, time to turn our attention to Whitworth.

anyone remember this from a few years ago? Seems like the type of guy you don't want in your locker room.

This is the one move I'm upset or (not liking) that the Jets didn't go after. Whether it be the draft or as a UDFA. I understand why they didn't do it because of a potential character issue and backlash if he did have anything to do with it. However; the cops said from the beginning he was not a suspect. They just wanted to talk to him. That was his ex-girlfriend who was pregnant and they both were murdered.

I'm guessing they had no suspects or persons of interest so it was only natural they would talk to anyone who had any kind of close relationship to her. Doesn't necessarily seem like a character issue to me. Seems like a standard investigation that any player could have been questioned about. The Jets should have used a 7th round pick or went after him post draft. Is what it is I guess but we all know the Jets needed more help on their o-line. Collins would have been the piece to solve that issue.

IMHO, if we had landed Collins with one of our 3 7th round picks, it would have to be called the greatest draft in Jet history.

More like it would have been a wasted 7th round pick since it would have done nothing but allow Collins to reenter the draft in 2016

"We just didn't think it was a good fit at the end of the day."

Translation: Collins had a ton of money to recoup and a state with no income tax was preferred over a state with a massive income tax, amongst other various taxes.

Thats a big deal for athletes and I'm not surprised more athletes don't turn down NY.

I have said before in FA threads its not always about the Jets being dissed when a player chooses to go elsewhere. Taxes play a significant part.
