Zach has turned the corner …..

If you look around the NFL you are not seeing every new young QB hitting the ground running. IMO it is looking like it takes a 2solid 2+ seasons to develop these guys....if you go on the belief that Hurts, Tua, Jones are case examples. Not everyone is turning into a Mahomes or Herbert. Josh Allen was raw but got the right coaching that set his development in motion.

Fact is Zach needs to be the starter this season to develop him. Too many getting caught up in the win now mode when it is not warranted. They need to get this kid more consistent and curb the urge to keep too many plays alive. It's clear he was frustrated with having to ditch too many throws to avoid sacks in recent games, including Sunday.

To me there is only one way to get things going right - better protection. easy to say, tougher to fix. It's not just the pocket on throwing downs, what I'm talking about is balance. You bring a balanced offense and that will keep pass rushers from pinning their ears back. Move the sticks and get points. I've seen too much inconsistency in the playcalling to allow THIS OL a fair chance to help the QB. And let's not mince words, the QB needs help at the ripe ol age of 18 games especially when his college career wasn't against fierce competition much.

Why is Elijah not in the slot? Why does a small WR like himself keep getting assigned deep routes where bigger CBs are taking away the target area for the QB? I thought Garret coming in was to utilize his Lynn Swan-esque talent downfield.

Why did we go away from the run game when it wasn't established that NE could actually stop it? I wasn't seeing it stopped for losses like we've seen even with Breece playing. They were getting yards.

Zach has actually looked better this year in a clean pocket........numbers were top 10 before Sunday (no idea now). His big problem from last year to this year is when pressured. That is something needing the big fix....something college did little to prepare against. To my eyes, Zach has made some incremental improvement releasing/connecting on the screens/flats. All the way there? No not yet, but better.

Nobody wants to hear the word 'patience' but that is what is needed. Tell me who else is killing it? There is a lot of mediocre QB play in the NFL right now. Panic is not warranted in week 8.

Allen, now one of the elite QBs in the game had 10 TDs , 12 INTs, a 52.8% completion % and QBR of 68% in his first 16 games. His early crap start is not the exception either once you look at Manning, Aikman, etc. Thus, I think the bust talk is awfully premature and probably unwarranted, in my opinion. There is a lot of growing up to do with this young team AND coaching staff.

Well, I must admit. I have been throwing Zach under the bus lately. I still believe he needs a good QB Coach. I also don't believe the play calling by LaFleur has been beneficial for Zach. Loosing Key offensive players hasn't helped either.

I’m not a Cimini fan but he made a few good points on ESPN online today. He said Lafleur needs to capitalize on where Zach is playing at his best, and that’s play action and more slants. Playing at a faster pace, too. Quick huddles and lining up faster. Maybe some adjustments are in order until Wilson gets more experience.

I’m not comparing the two, just saying that the early returns aren’t always indicative of the long term potential.
wilson is still playing like a rookie in year 2..

he's still skittish, his pocket presence has actually gotten worse & his poor footwork is no better in year 2 either.. most damning to me is his accuracy under pressure..

hell, darnold at this point in his career was showing more than wilson..

i am more than concerned wilson is not the guy going foward..

They are spot on and we all know this. Zach has to learn how to make quick and exact decisions with this thing. He also must trust his oline more and stay in pocket that extra 1-2 seconds to give his playmakers a chance to get open. He needs to learn how to play the position from inside the pocket. Trust his playmakers to get open and throw his receivers open. Things to that nature. This is the NFL, not college, so his playmakers aren’t blatantly going to be open must of the time. He has to throw them open or put the ball there and trust that they will get to the ball.

This hero ball BS isn’t working. Not without Breece and AVT and other key players missing a game or two here and there. Zach has to do more now and the coaches have to help him with that. Give him the reads he likes most! Slants, sweeps, screens and things to that nature. The easy stuff! There should have been no reason why Zach should have thrown the ball 40 times last week. 30 at most I’d say. Running the ball that extra 10 times could have made the difference in 2 INTs, more running yards and maybe a victory. They have to much confidence in him and he’s not ready for that yet.

We all know Zach’s decision making has to get more decisive. If he absolutely has to run out the pocket than his decisions should be quick and decisive. Look for the underneath playmakers first and get the ball to them. Eat up the clock always. Run out the pocket for that extra 2-3 seconds and if no one is open, run for the yards he can. If he can’t do that than take the sack or throw it clearly out of bounds. This running around crap like he’s playing Pop Warner little league football is not going to cut it anyway! He got away with it for 4 straight games but not anymore.

Why not ?
They have the # 4 ranked offense and have been giving teams fits.

I’m sure if this was a lions thread and they were talking about wins and loses
Someone would post
“ You think we lose to the Jets ?”
I’m pretty confident we beat the Lions. And the Jags. And the Bears.

I'm not sure we are going to beat the Bears or the Jags. Four of our Five wins were against backup QB's. We will be lucky to win 2 more games the rest of the year. IMHO I only see us beating the Lions for our only win the rest of the year. The Defense will try and keep us in games. Wilson and Lafleur will not.

Some fans are demoralized by this last game. The Jets are winning more than one or two more games. Zach had a bad game. He’s going to have good games before it’s over. Bank on it.

After the hiring of Salah and Lafleur. The big talk was after 2 years other teams would be drooling over trying to get LaFleur as the new Head Coach. HE was supposed to be better than his brother in Green Bay. Unfortunately, his brother in G.B. has Aaron Rodgers as his QB and he knows how to Coach..
