Zach vs. Darnold so far and the rest of the year!

Yes I hate getting into this debate but it’s being discussed heavily and will continue to be discussed the rest of this year at the least. So there’s no reason for us Jets fans not to get into it also, so let’s do it. I posted this response on a YouTube Jets fans sight earlier today and the question was, “Did the Jets make a mistake in trading Darnold”

No the Jets didn’t make a mistake. IMO Zach is a better QB than Darnold. He has a stronger arm, can be more accurate and quicker release than Darnold. Now last week doesn’t prove it but I think Zach is a quicker decision maker and reader of the defense also. If you look at the stats of Sam this year and Zach it doesn’t really show any of this except maybe the quicker release and stronger arm.

That’s because Sam has a much better team than Zach, so of course Sam is looking better right now. Sam is a good QB and can be a very good one in the right situation and that’s showing itself right now. Put Sam on this current Jets team and he definitely wouldn’t look like he looks with Carolina. I believe in fact he’d look worse than Zach because he’s not as good as a QB as Zach is. Put Zach on this Carolina team as a rookie and he probably looks better than Darnold. That’s just my opinion though.

It’s going to take time for Zach to shine and truly show what he can do. New regime, youngest team in the league and he’s a rookie. The team has to grow together and they will. A may take a year or two to fully come together but it will. Then we’ll see that the Jets made the right moves here.

if we don't improve as the year goes on then I'm accepting that we are cursed and as long as Joe lives we will forever suck. yes. I know I sound crazy, but we have seen some crazy repeated crap from this team for 50 years

that said, whoever is the Jet QB will not be good plain and simple. Sam beat 2 bad teams and a Saints team that you could bet would lose that week after their annihilation of Rodgers

Zach was totally let down week 1 and totally let down the team week 2. both very Jetlike.

Just based on the franchises, Sam will come up the winner.

all this is just based on Jet history.

to me, Zach showed me more week 1 then Sam ever did. That said, he erased it week 2 with an unbelievably awful performance

Stop being such a negative Nancy CH, this will turn around. Have some faith and trust in Joe D and Saleh. I have a feeling this will be different with this regime. It may take longer than we want but it will happen. We or I'll speak for myself, shouldn't of expecting but so mush anyway because they have the youngest team in the league. So if we only win 4-5 games this year than so be it. Constant growth and competitive play is the key at this point. As long as we see that, next year should be better and so one...

It's a very small sample size to compare but Jets fans will contemplate this for years because of impatience. I believe Darnold has pretty much reached his ceiling while Zach will improve. Darnold still fumbles the ball and takes off running when he doesn't have to despite playing against lower echelon teams (Saints aren't who we thought they were). I have nothing but upmost respect for Sam but it was time to move on from him. I assure you Mccaffery in the backfield makes his job much easier. They will survive without him while he heals. And the Panthers schedule is soft the first half of the season (Sept, Oct). Things overall will flip between the two QB's around mid season. Don't forget that you read this here first. The fact that the Panthers are winning makes this news. It's like breaking up with an ex and they go on to find perceived happiness in the beginning. It makes you wonder if you made a mistake letting them go. But when you see them later, you are relived that they are now someone else's headache. We just have to weather the storm for now.

I'm happy for Sam. He put up with a lot from this awful franchise. I always supported him and thought he could be very good. I just hope Wilson can overcome this franchise. Odds are not in his favor. I used to care a lot more, but watching what COVID has been allowed to do to this country my priorities have changed a bunch.

In the end the Jets are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. The only way they truly come out of this is if Zach becomes a superstar or even better than that. Still playing for the Jets of course. I don’t even think he needs to win a Super Bowl or two or three. Although that would be great but as long as he turns out to be a franchise superstar player and plays for us a substantial amount of time. We win or come out even in this situation.

Now I will admit once again that I did not want to the Jets to draft Zach. I wanted them to draft Justin Fields or worst-case scenario keep Sam and trade down for a haul. Give Sam one more year and build the team around Sam or whomever came after him. I didn’t know anything about Zach, I didn’t think much of him and didn’t think he could be a franchise quarterback. I see it differently now after watching him in the preseason. Also the first game of the the season.

It’s not just because the Jets won both of those preseason games or because he look good but specifically how he was doing it. You can see in him the lightning quick release, the strong arm, the accuracy and the quick decision making that he has. I don’t remember seeing any of that in Sam Darnold in three years he was with us. Also it looked like Zach was executed exactly what they wanted him to do to a tie and he was doing it with ease. He looked like a younger Aaron Rodgers.

That all showed me that Zach is a much better quarterback then Sam and his potential is out of this world. Yes we are talking about preseason so I shouldn’t take too much from that but what you can’t deny is the kids quick release, and strong arm, his accuracy and it’s quick reading ability. Give him and the team time to grow and if it all comes together the right way we will see that again, most likely this season. We also saw this the first game of the regular season as well.

What happen in game two I don’t know but it just didn’t seem to be there for him. I blame 75% of it on the coaches and their playcalling and the other 25% of it on his decision making. What I seen of him so far is he sees what’s on the field, he makes a decision, he’s decisive with it and lets that ball rip. He just didn’t seem to do that in game two. It was like as if he was thinking too much and doubting himself and what he was seeing.

Although they gonna lose this Sunday against the Broncos, hopefully he still can change that around and will see a much better performance out of him. This will be a conversation that will go on the rest of this year I am probably the 10-15 years. Especially if Sam is successful during that time. If the Jets would have kept Sam and traded down and he was still struggling but whatever team drafted Zach was doing well with him, we would have been hearing about that.

We also would have been hearing about the fact that we didn’t draft Justin Fields or Matt Jones or Trey Lance or that we didn’t lose every game and draft Trevor Lawrence. So it didn’t really matter what the Jets did, it’s gonna be an issue unless this regime and Zach can prove everybody otherwise. So all we can do is sit back and be patient and pray for the best. I still have confidence in all of them and believe they can do it. All gas no brakes baby!

Just need to see steady improvement. We have a young team, a Green QB & Green CS! But looking unprepared and completely Lost is a one and day forgiveness. They look like shit again this week, it's not going to be a good look or build any confidence.

To compare the two, you'd have to factor in the supporting casts.
Ironically, the template for this is the Jets Darnold Version.
Did I mention experience? Zach has 8 quarters of NFL experience, but let's bring it on.

And of course we get the loudmouth, Stephen A. Smith view on the subject but I must admit his take was a very solid one. It might have actually been the best way to put it to be honest.

Unfortunately, our GM, Joe Douglass-in-a-hole, is garbage. Sam Darnold showed potential when he was here. His stats went down when the imbecile let Robby Anderson go. But of course it's Gage's fault...sarcasm.

Who fricken care about comparing a completely built Panther to Jets 40% built to compare QBs? How is that a fair evaluation ? Silly. Our current WRs are dropping a lot of critical passes like todays game. Wait til Jets get some decent players on both sides to compare QBs. I hope Darnold gets 45 mil a year and take away skilled players he will have to make up with talent.
