You're trying, but failing to make this sound better than it is? Yeah, sure Mac has done better when signing veteran QB's, but both of those QB's have ever led the team to the playoffs. So if your expectation is to go 5-11 every year then Mac is a genius at finding QB's.

The truth is, Mac has scrambled twice now to put a band-aid over a huge gaping hole at QB. This needs to change once and for all. He wouldn't need band-aids if he'd selected a young, up and coming, long-term option by now.

I know you like to find the silver lining in things, but we are 3 seasons into Mac's regime and this team is putrid. In a QB driven league, the Jets have zilcho at QB. I don't know how much longer you want to wax poetic about things, but my patience has run out. If Mac can't select a franchise QB, then I want him gone. If he can't get a franchise QB then he's a failure as a GM? I really don't believe that can be debated?

I don't think I'm doing anything to make it sound better than it is. I'm pointing out how the team has not hit on finding a young QB. I would not say that's making it sound better than it is.

What I said about Fitz and McCown is accurate. The team did hit on finding a QB who could play well, if short term, and they did it twice. So it's obvious they know how to find the right fit at QB. And it's obvious they know how to get success out of a QB. Fitz and McCown are two examples of that. They just haven't done it with a young QB.

Is Josh Allen really plummeting that much on the boards, to where he's a third or fourth rounder?

2nd Mock

Only trade was trading down our 10th overall to Buffalo for both their 1st round picks (21), (23)

Round 1 Pick 21 (BUF): Quenton Nelson, OG, Notre Dame (A)
Round 1 Pick 23 (BUF): Billy Price, C/OG, Ohio State (A-)
Round 2 Pick 10: Bryce Love, RB, Stanford (A-)
Round 2 Pick 19: Mason Rudolph, QB, Oklahoma State (A-)
Round 3 Pick 10: Frank Ragnow, C/OG, Arkansas (B+)
Round 4 Pick 10: Quenton Meeks, CB, Stanford (A+)
Round 5 Pick 22: Brandon Parker, OT, North Carolina AT (A+)
Round 6 Pick 10: Justin Lawler, DE, Southern Methodist (A)
Round 7 Pick 19: Shaun Dion Hamilton, ILB, Alabama (B-)

If we were to re-establish our offensive line through the draft then grabbing three interior linemen within the first two rounds would be ideal... Having another guard that can be the backup center is a smart selection... We should grab a RB & QB in this draft but our priority is offensive line... To get a player like Meeks in the 4th is a steal being that he is projected to be a high 3rd... I still believe Parker is a sleeper and don't think he will be there in the 5th but for this mock taking him...

That might give the team the best personnel in the trenches on both sides it's had since drafting Brick and Mangold.

If they had found the right fit at QB, the Jets would have made the playoffs at least once by now. They haven't and therefore that constitutes failure in my book as it does with the overwhelming majority of football fans, media, etc.

So once again, all due respect, I think you're going way overboard giving praise that is not deserved.

The first 3 guys you list above (Baker, Vea, and Price) are all projected top 25 picks. Theres no way Vea (who could arguably even be a top 10 pick) and price are there in round 2

I'm not giving undeserved praise. I pointed out facts. Just because they don't fit a Same Ol' Jets agenda doesn't make them wrong. Fitz had a career year here, and so did McCown. That indicates the front office is at least able to determine which veterans can thrive here, and the coaches are able to get the most out of some QBs' potential. That's not giving praise. That's stating facts.

If they're not winning they're not thriving. Winning and good QB numbers are forever linked. Fitz had a winning record for a season but never made the playoffs. McCown didn't even have a winning record. Boh of them are good backups at best. Geno Smith had a game as a Jet where he hd a perfect QB rating, but he was a total shitbag otherwise.

Show me tangible accomplishments by either of them and I'll agree with you. They don't have any.

OK, so if they are good backups at best, you have to admit that either Maccagnan saw that they would have career years as Jets, or that Bowles and his staff got the most out of them, since both guys had seasons far above those of a "backup at best." So who gets the credit? Maccagnan or Bowles?

Just re-ran my mock draft and came up with a dream scenario for the offense:
:
Josh Allen - QB Wyoming
Quentin Nelson - OG ND
Billy Price - C OSU
Mark Andrews - TE OU

Josh Allen definitely helped himself in bowl game. He has great arm talent.

I would say Mac? If you're forcing me to answer that question, I say Mac. Both Fitz and McCown ultimately I have come to think are BACKUPS and will never be anything more. However, they CAN and do sometimes play well over the course of the season. Obviously, we saw instances of that from both of them. And sometimes their play even looks slightly intoxicating? It looks alluring at times? Just don't fall for the hype.

Now, if you have a real live franchise QB leading your team and either Fitz or McCown as the backup? Shit, that's a team is set at the QB spot. That's a team that's ready to play in the SB.

But you're missing the point here I believe? Even Mac knows those two are NOT the future of this team? He only hired them as stopgaps and nothing more and he got lucky twice by them having decent, certainly not great years. They both are very intelligent and great team players, but he knew (just as we all know) they are NOT especially good athletes. They are not the future. Just the token veteran guy that almost every NFL teams employs somewhere on their depth chart. McCown only started because the rest of the Jets QB's are HORRIBLE. I mean epically BAD.

So McCown starting is not in any way complimentary to him? It's just an acknowledgement of a last man standing type of scenario.............

So it's really luck, then. You grudgingly give credit to Mac for picking the right stopgaps, mainly to avoid giving Toilet any credit.

Mac totally picked the wrong stop gaps. He set the rebuild back two years because of one 10 win season and even worse the Jets had a more devastating 5 win season.

Even though we have moved up to #6 it still shows us picking at #7. I would kill for this draft. I don't know if Darnold has it, but he has all the physical tools.

2: R2P7
C MASON COLE

3: R2P20
G BILLY PRICE

4: R3P7
RB BRYCE LOVE

5: R4P7
