That is fantastic. I'm sure the organization had a role in him doing this, but that he went straight to involvement in the community like this, it speaks volumes of who he is.

Hey guys, I really like everything this young man is saying! Darnold has said everything I like to here & thats working hard & doing everything he can to prepare to be the best QB possible. I also like how Darnold said he is humbly confident on his abilities at QB! I can say one thing, out of all the QB's he is the most mature & sounds like he has great work ethic's. Darnold Parents has done a great job in raising this young man . After listening to Darnold, he has made me confident about him being a very good hard working blue collar JET QB. Meanwhile Mayfield(car salesman) Allen & arrogant Rosen (the "Man of Knowledge" or "brush with greatness") has already dropped big in my opinion of them and with their comments. Darnold might be ready in a year at 21.

If he doesn't succeed its the Jets fault because he is a great leader and a great person.

I agree,

One thing that has gotten on my nerves with the Bowles/ Mac regime is that they dont play the young QB they have drafted in meaningful games. Ala Petty and Hack. Though with that being said, they have showcased that they will place the QB with the best chance to help the team win.

I believe this time it will be different; Bowles needs Sam more than Darnold needs Todd. Bowles needs to see the progress Sam is doing and not impede him from growing as in playing him in games if he's ready. If he needs time, Bowles can argue that with the GM and Owner. But if the Owner and GM feel through the players and are witnesses to Sam excelling and Bowles refuses to play him, The choice is obvious in which direction ownership will go in order to continue the development of Darnold.

bowles can keep trying to play a zero sum game if he likes.. hell, i'm almost in favor of that.. the sooner we can get a young QB friendly HC the better..

sink or swim coach bowles..

I think O.C,. Bates will be the answer for a more productive offense... We actually have some talent that will compete this camp regardless who wins those said competitions...

to have a QB coach, turned into the O.C. and to have a veteran like McCown if Darnold does indeed start it will be because of these two... Remember he is only 20, so if he doesn't start day one he will eventually get his chance then hopefully it will be only looking to what can be not what was...

can bates run an effective NFL offense?? can he be vital in developing the new face of the franchise??

if he can, we probably won't have to leave 1 jet drive for our next HC..

that's the kind of continuity i could/would support..

& for the sake of clarity, i don't want the darnold era to start a nanosecond before the kid's ready..

compared to our last OC, he has the blueprint of what NOT to do... along with a heady veteran QB like McCown I think Bates is ahead of the learning curve... If he can manage the QB play which he is competent in then utilizing the talent around said QB he should be better than what we have had in recent past...

for the record I believe Sam Darnold is the best QB we are lucky to embrace this organization... I saw there was a chance that the Browns would screw up the No. 1 overall and kinda believed the Giants were all in on Saquon that if Darnold was there he was the pick and like the last 4 years prior we were lucky enough to have that top prospect fall to us... If Macc didn't move up when he did we wouldn't be in the driver seat we are in now...

Darnold needs to improve his delivery and ball security... If he does this he is the day one starter and McCown is the backup and we will release 3 QBs and run with 2 for the season... Just my opinion... If Bridgewater can bounce back which is highly unlikely then I am unsure what they will do...

you don't want to get in front of your skis with the bates HC thing huh?? that's fair..

make no mistake, LOLz even i don't think bowles is a big enough dope to get in the way of starting & allowing this kid a real chance to succeed..

as much as I think he will do well at O.C., H.C. is another aspect we can talk about after he gets a full year as the O.C. ... Experience in running either offense, defense or special teams gives those coaches just enough experience in what it takes to run the team by running said unit... do I think he will be a capable O.C., yes and I do think he is well respected from the QBs... that being said I believe the rest of the offense will take to him not only as a leader but as a teacher using his knowledge from the QB prospective to help the rest of the offense take the next step...

maybe it is just me be overly optimistic but the one problem since TB has been here is the offense has been more downs then ups... solid rushing attack but the passing game has killed us putting our defense in horrible situations... maybe it will be a QB guy with a veteran QB to manage the growth of the weak link of our team...

I personally want to thank the Cleveland Browns for being the Browns and thus preventing the Jets from being the Jets. Darnold day 1 starter. Let him take his lumps.

No secret Darnold wasn't the highest QB on my board, I'm still spooked by USC's Sanchez, but here's the bottom line, last week Charley Casserly polled 25 NFL GM's and Scouts and asked them to pick the best QB in this draft, the guy they would take #1 Overall, and Sam Darnold won by a landslide.

It wasn't even close, Darnold received like 18 first place votes, the next guy (Mayfield or Rosen?) received 3, and the next two received 2 apiece.

Like I said, it was a blowout, an absolute rout, and these were all NFL GM's and Scouts who know a little more about football than me.

Thats why you gotta say, no matter what you think, the consensus #1 QB in the draft, by a landslide, slid to the Jets at #3
Remember, Sanchez didn't have a lot of film, he was stuck behind leinert in college. He had a small sample on a very good USC team, and was drafted on potential.

Sam at least had a lot of film to actually decide who he is.

I'm just a little concerned that he looked upset to be drafted by the jets.

Of the few summaries/scouting reports that I have read, two things really stuck out. 1. Darnold makes good decisions. 2. Darnold makes bad decisions. I haven't watched any of his games. However, his highlight reel made him look intelligent...and was better than Sanchez's. So right now, I'm more optimistic than usual although QB draft picks have a high bust rate. He scored a 28 on the wonderlic which is also positive.

problem with Darnold is two things:

Delivery -- he holds the ball by his waist, which it is a long delivery.. if he can shorten it by holding the ball higher would be a start...

Ball Security -- because of his low handle on delivery causes chances of fumbles... But when he runs with the ball he holds onto it loosely which he loses the ball often...

if Darnold sews up these two areas he will be the starter day one as long as he grasps the concept of the playbook... understanding how to execute each play or run the hot route will come with game experience and building tape to look back on with both McCown and Bates...
