New York Jets Select Sam Darnold, USC

Remember, Sanchez didn't have a lot of film, he was stuck behind leinert in college. He had a small sample on a very good USC team, and was drafted on potential.

Sam at least had a lot of film to actually decide who he is.

I'm just a little concerned that he looked upset to be drafted by the jets.

I didn’t see that in him at all. He seemed pretty happy to me. Maybe it is his calm and mello demeanor your mistaking for him being unhappy. They say he has a very mellow and stoic type of demeanor. So you can never seem to tell when he’s upset or unhappy or not (I’m guessing). He’s saying all the right things and appears to be excited and ready to get out there with the team. Just my opinion ofcourse!

Thank you Kirk Cousins for not signing with the Jets. You literally saved us from ourselves.

I am not gonna lie... I preferred Rosen but only because Darnold has so many similarities to Sanchez. The amount of games played in college, the stats, the college team, the he is better out of the pocket narrative and of course the turnovers.. Specifically the fumbles.... I was a Sanchez supporter because of the talent... and deep down I do believe the CS and FO ruined Sanchez.. And I hope this FO and CS know how to coach Sam, surround him with the right teammates and put him in the right system.... Cause if they do we will ahve a franchise QB for 10-15 years...... But I am scarred LOL!!!

I didn't see that at all. I just think he is the most even keeled QB in this draft. This guy is going to be perfect for NY. We have a star.

He had a great interview with Sirius Radio right after he was drafted.. He sounded excited... So excited his nerves started to get him.... He is an even keel guy so I think that very initial reaction is who he is... Much like Eli Manning.. He doesn't get to high or to low... I am sure based off how he was talking on NFL radio he is stoked to be in the NFL and on the Jets

I did initially as well but the more I read up and watch video on this kid the happier I am we drafted him. I will also say it was my ignorance towards Darnold that made me side more with Rosen. I orginally did no research on Darnold because I didn’t think we had any chance to get him. I just know the Browns or Giants would draft him. Or if the Browns didn’t then someone would move ahead of us to get him. I thought we were going to get Mayfield or Rosen and out side chance on Allen. Did my research on those three and I preferred Rosen first, Mayfield second and then Allen. I believe it will be a dead lock between Rosen and Darnold as the two best out of this bunch when it all said and done but we do have a better character guy and maybe a better overall talent guy.

I can agree with that.. I have watched a lot on Darnold so I now the talent and the upside and ceiling the kid has... I'm scarred but optimistic. I always felt he could be the best of the bunch but my fear is he could be the worst of the bunch... With all that said I will have nothing but positive thoughts and comments on Darnold his first 2 years...after that he better be good...LOL

I actually think the Sanchez comparison is a bit lazy, and it's been pushed by some. They are quite different. Darnold is a much more physically prototypical QB. He has a better arm and better accuracy, and he's more a playmaker. He does share Sanchez's trouble with fumbles, but I doubt anyone would be comparing the two if Darnold had gone to any other college.

i went back & looked for it after mykcuz's take on it..

he wasn't outwardly doing backflips but we all know that's just not the kids style..

watched a good interview with darnold, i'm guessing it was shortly after he declared.. he was asked what was your favorite NFL team growing up.. he said something to the affect, he absolutely didn't have one but has always been in love with USC football.. so there's that also mykcuz.. i think we're good..

Outside of being QB’s from USC, there really isn’t much of a comparison between Darnold and Sanchez. Darnold’s arm strength, ability to avoid pressure in the pocket, and throwing on the run are far superior to Sanchez. He is much more of a blue chip prospect than Sanchez.

The only other comparable is the tendency to be a bit too loose with the ball in the pocket.

Yeah, I’m not saying Darnold is perfect. You’d be hard pressed to ever draft a QB who’s flawless. Darnold needs to be more conscious of ball security for sure.

I just find it amusing when I hear people say “another USC QB” as if Darnold has anything to do with Sanchez or Leinart.

It truly is amazing. That means Tom Brady should have turned out to be nothing as Michigan spewted out:

Jim Harbaugh, Brian Griese, Todd Collins, Elvis GrBac, Chad Henne, John Navarre, Drew Henson, Scott Dreisbach,

It is a really good point. Far too much is made of what color jersey a player wore in college.
