this regime got rid of 4 additional Maccagnan players including this year's Vernon Gholston in Jachai Polite... This regime including Head Coach Adam Gase figured there was a risk in taking the edge rusher knowing there was a chance he would not translate...

make that 16 of 34 Maccagnan players left on the roster...

maybe Polite thought since he was a third round selection he was locked into a roster spot... it is better to cut bait now and try to get someone better fit for Gregg Williams' defense... And for the record it was Gregg Williams whom said he doesn't want him for his unit...

Four players waived that I just don’t understand. Deontae Burnett, Polite and Kyron and Alex Brown. Ofcourse they must not have cut it in training camp for this to happen but they are all young. This is Burnett’s second year and he’s only 21 years old. The other three are rookies. Polite is supposed to be that overlooked superb pass rusher and as bad as our CB situation is, could they really afford to cut two rookies? What ever happened to giving the young players a chance to learn and develop?

I think both Kyron Brown and Alex Brown will end up on our Practice Squad if they clear waivers.

...and then you have an UDFA Kyle Phillips who came in with no fanfare and lights it up. Thats the kind of kid you want to keep around. I am seriously disappointed that Polite didn't work out, because if the offseason was an aberration then we would have had great value at a position of need. Gotta trust the experts that have seen him up close and personal over the last three months to make the judgement here.

just read that in his short time with the jets, Polite had racked up $100,000 in fines. I guess the concerns from around the league were deserved.

So it was more than his lack of impresiveness on the field that got him cut. It makes more sense now.

My opinion means nothing I know but I don’t like this at all. The kid just might be a late bloomer. Give him a chance. Throw him on the practice squad if you have to but don’t cut him this quick. Give him at least half of a season to catch on and then cut bait if it’s that bad.

the only way to put a player on the practice squad is to cut him. and if he clears waivers, he is free to sign on any team's practice squad.

the jets couldn't just put him (or anyone) on their practice squad without first cutting the player. and then, if the player clears waivers, he's a free agent. obviously the new regime wanted nothing to do with polite. i'm sure douglas and staff scouted him coming out of college for their prior teams. and if he accrued so many fines for being late to meeting, clearly he wasn't buying into the program.

maybe the light goes on for him in seattle or some other spot down the road. but it looks like for now, the scouting reports were right and macc took a big gamble that blew up on the team.

i'm not an "i told you so" type of person, but boy is it gonna be hard to see chase winovich do well for the pats

The most important part of the combine is the interview. By all accounts, Polite failed the preparation phase, as well as the interview itself. Who then hires someone despite this?

There is no such thing as a safe pick in the draft, but MM took risks to a whole new level with some the guys he took during his tenure. After Tanny was canned and MM was hired, I thought thank god we got a real player personnel professional. He had some highlights, but on balance his drafting other than top 6 guys was horrific. The bottom of our roster and the all-important OL and CB positions have been all but ignored other than in FA. I'm praying Douglas and his seemingly impressive front office group breaks this ugly trend.
