Official 2022 New York Jets NFL Draft Thread

You can throw the Giants in that mix
I don’t think a New regime wants to start off with Jones .
You may be correct, but what if the Giants new GM brings in a QB whisperer like Brian Daboll, and he sells them on a plan to resurrect Jones' career? Using their draft capital to build around him vs starting over. The Giants ownership may be all in on that, vs starting completely from scratch. Just throwing it out there.

When I told you that I'm building around Zach Wilson during 2022's NFL draft?

I said what I meant and I meant what I said.

View attachment 2842

QB: Zach Wilson.

LT: Mekhi Becton.
LG: Alijah Vera-Tucker.
C: Alec Lindstrom.
RG: Ikem Ekwonu.
RT: Evan Neal.

OMG!

WR 1: Corey Davis.
WR 2: George Pickens.
Slot: Elijah Moore (lined up everywhere).
WR 4: Braxton Berrios.
WR 5: Denzel Mims.

TE 1A.) Jalen Wydermyer.
TE 1B.) Trey McBride.
TE 3: Isaiah Likely.

RB 1: Michael Carter.
RB 2: Brian Robinson Jr.

2023 can be all about building up our Defense tthroughout both FA and then the draft but I refuse to allow Zach Wilson to become the next Mark Sanchez/Sam Darnold type of Jets QB bust. So if I'm Joe Douglas? I'm investing into him. At all costs while heading into his 2nd year before building up my Defense while heading into his 3rd year.

▪︎ Look at that work horse and dominant O-Line (Zach Wilson will become well protected in the pocket with time to scan the field and a clean jersey and won't become Chad Pennington'ed). Michael Carter runs wild too. Our Offense couldn't be stopped because of it.

▪︎ Look at those solid WRs. A 2022 top tier FA WR puts that WR unit over the top.

▪︎ Look at those playmaking TEs. A QBs best friend. And now Zach Wilson has 3 of them. Overnight too. Jaylen Wydermyer/Trey McBride has Gronk/Hernandez type of potential in terms of causing problems for opposing Ds down the middle of the field as a dynamic TE duo.

▪︎ Look at that 1-2 punch coming out of the backfield in an electric Michael Carter and now a powerful bull in Robinson Jr. out of Alabama. An ACC/SEC RB duo.

If Zach Wilson doesn't show us a Josh Allen leap during year #2? Behind that type of Offense Firepower? Well then he's not the one and it's better to find out sooner (rather than later). I personally believe he'd absolutely flourish.
Pipe dream or maybe just smoker.

I like that mock.

But I hate hate hate the pick of George Karlaftis.

Highlights are supposed to make every player look good. But when I spent time watching George Karlaftis film? I didn't like what I was seeing. He's a stiff who has no BEND to his pass rushing game. He has do dominant signature moves either. He's just a downhill bull. And then I looked at his stats? Ugh. I think he's a future NFL bust who will struggle to record even 10 career sacks on an NFL level.

In a moment I'll have a serious PFF mock draft. Where instead of just drafting Offense/Defense I'll put the team first. Mix and Match. And try and hit it out the park.

Say no to Karlaftis. He reminds me more of an MLB than an edge pass rusher. Or at least plays like it (he does not have A++ athleticism for the edge position).
I’m not drafting him as a pass rusher as much as I am a player who can set the edge against the run and push the pocket . Jets need a better Calvin Pace and this guy is that type.

I’m not sure about Karlaftis…… watched some highlites and it seemed a lot of his production seemed more like clean up sacks, and I heard he isn’t great against the run. But, I admit, I never saw him play at Purdue so I may be falling for some arbitrary info some sportswriter wrote ……

That's a good looking group, but I believe that Nolan Smith is going back to Georgia for another year. Also don't see JD going back to back LBs in 2nd round.

He didn't pass my eyeball test either. He wasn't even getting double teamed ( as a top 5 DL draft pick should have to be in college) and he wasn't getting anywhere near the QB. I brought that up in another thread after I saw him play.

What do you think?

I traded back from #4 multiple times and back from #10 multiple times in order to still target my favorite O-Linemen and still pick up additional 2nd and 3rd round picks.

Round 1: Tyler Linderbaum (C).
Round 1: Ikem Ekwonu (RG; to makeup for Trey).

Round 2: Jahan Dotson (to get gmf his A+ WR).
Round 2: Christian Harris (LB).
Round 2: Drake Jackson (to attack Edge).
Round 2: Trey McBride (Playmaking TE).

Round 3: Jalen Pitre (one of my favorite Safetys).
Round 3: Daniel Faalele (one of my favorite RTs).
Round 3: Kyren Williams (one of my favorite RBs).
Round 3: Nik Bonitto (my favorite sleeper Edge).

Round 4: Charlie Kolar (creating a dynamic TE duo).
Round 4: Brian Asamoah II (LB. My older brother loves him).
Round 4: Josh Jobe (to keep the JD trend of mid/late round CBs going).

Round 5: Brian Robinson Jr. (I love this RB in order to create a triple headed monster backfield).

(I believe I improved our D, but look @ this OFFENSE.

QB: Zach Wilson (help is on it's way).

LT: Mekhi Becton.
LG: Alijah Vera-Tucker.
C: Tyler Linderbaum.
RG: Ikem Ekwonu.
RT: Daniel Faalele.

▪︎ Very young O-Line (there will be growing pains; but A++ monster potential).

WR 1: Corey Davis.
WR 2: Jahan Dotson.
Slot: Elijah Moore (+ lined up all over this Offense).
WR 4: Braxton Berrios.
WR 5: Denzel Mims (he gets his chance to flourish).

▪︎ I can no longer claim Zach Wilson lacks playmakers @ WR: They're now, everywhere.

TE 1: Trey McBride.
TE 2: Charlie Kolar.
TE 3: Kenny Yeboah.

▪︎ For the first time as a Jets fan my TE unit is full of younger athleticism.

RB 1: Michael Carter.
RB 2: Kyren Williams.
RB 3: Brian Robinson Jr.

▪︎ The RB position is a young mans position and now we have a 3 headed monster RB attack with A+ talent (put these kids in the cold during playoff football and watch them run wild).

I think that Offensive Attack is 100% revamped and I can only hope we improved some of our D with the selections of Christian Harris @ LB, Drake Jackson @ Edge rusher, Nik Bonitto @ Edge rusher, Brian Asamoah II @ LB (sleeper kid), Jalen Pitre @ Safety and Josh Jobe (out of Alabama) @ CB.

A-F how you guys grading this draft and how would you feel about it after the draft?
That’s the problem with the simulator we use . Those players will never be available where you’re picking them . Not any of ‘em .

I wouldn’t complain even though I think Likely and Jobe are way too low

Look guys I get that we all want that Edge rusher . The problem we have is we can’t be starting 250 LB DEs in front of 220 LBs and expect to stop the run or set the edge . Karlaftis will do that . He’s not sexy but he’s what this defense need’s .

I'd like it a lot more if we received a 1st from Arizona 2023 because for them to move up from 23rd to top 10 imo it should've costed them a 1st (and then we'd have 3 1st round picks next year).
all trades were discussed using the draft trade chart and the points allocated
it was a fair trade stop being so greedy
