Let me say this nicely Joe Douglas loves offensive lineman that are versatile meaning they can play more than one position. A career center that CAN NOT play guard is worthless because if he strikes out as center he becomes worthless, water boy type move. With that saying during the Senior Bowl Robert Saleh and the coaching staff had not one, not two but three offensive lineman take snaps at center. Two excelled the third well he was okay not great.
Zion Johnson Boston College, was the top 2nd round then prospect. And fourth round Cole Strange from Tennessee-Chattanooga. Now Zion because of the Senior Bowl is an outside the Top 25 first round selection, with his Pro Day on the 25th he could cement himself as a Top 25 projected selection in the upcoming NFL Draft. Cole Strange also elevated his stock from a late fourth to mid third round prospect. The Jets would be smart to hone in and target Cole.
They also do like Cade Mays who entered the Senior Bowl late and was assigned to the Lions team. Mays from Tennessee has versatility at all five offensive line roles. Started left tackle, kicked inside to both guards spots with a few stints at right tackle and plenty snaps over the course of his career at both Georgia then Tennessee.
So if you are choosing a lightweight only Center who has been known in college as a good open field blocker but lacks the girth to sustain power against bigger defenders like Ed Oliver and soon to be Jordan Davis then he is not worth having Zach Wilson seeing medical attention for bruised thighs because Linderbaum will be on rollerskates moving backwards in our blocking scheme.
