addressed defensive line with a couple of signings but long term potential is questionable. ... I think that's what everyone is saying and this is contrary to the point of the question.
we don't know is JFM DE or DT?

if JFM is DT then we know our IDL are JFM & Q.
if JFM is staying at DE then him and Carl Lawson along with Jacob Martin signing says we don't need a top EDGE. but opens the question for DT next to Q is a NEED!

Maybe he's both.

DE Carl Lawson, DE JFM, DT Quinnen, DT ?
or
DE Carl Lawson, DE ?, DT Quinnen, DT JFM

Jacob Martin is a LB that plays Wide 9 DE
Vinny Curry signing is a role player who can spot start on a heavy rotation line.
Bryce Huff like Curry can spot start
Tim Ward still developing and is a role player
Bradlee Anae like Ward is a role player.
Until we know which way they are leaning with JFM will determine which position group they will draft.
Signing Solomon Thomas he is a role IDL.
Tanzel Smart, Sheldon Rankins and Nathan Sheperd will compete for role duty.
Jonathan Marshall is still a developmental prospect year two.

if not mistaken I know you are a Kayvon Thibodeaux guy but the feeling from the front office they see red flags with him could be smoke but feeling is they won't draft him even if he is on the board when they pick.

reports of Jameson Williams not being ready until November/December has be defunct with the video Jameson posted post his surgery.

I still believe from talks inside the organization that there are now three teams have talked with Joe Douglas about moving up to fourth overall. the tenth overall makes more sense for us to use for many prospects.

I don't feel that we need to draft a CB, SAF or OLM early. Could have a luxury pick with TE while also grabbing at least one receiver. EDGE is not top need but at this point is a luxury pick with the moves on the roster. still feel IDL unless JFM is our 2nd DT is the starter then IDL is a NEED.

Tis the season of smoke. But I’ve read that the coaches love Thibodeaux, according to Schrager, and that his meeting went really well with the Jets.

We’ll know for sure on Thursday if they pass on him for a CB or OT.

The title of this thread is “Here is the ultimate question”. Well, here are the ultimate answers:

Having a franchise QB with a #1 WR that specializes in explosive plays downfield is what moves the needle most on offense.

Putting the opposing QB on his backside with great pass rushers (emphasis on multiple) is what moves the needle most on defense.

I hope our draft philosophy follows these principles later this week.

Exactly. The greatest QB in the history of the world (however you define that) never completed a pass from a prone position.

coaches may love but it is Joe Douglas and the front office that make the decisions who see red flags when it comes to Thibs.

You may be right. If he’s more about Hollywood than football, then it’s not worth it. But if he ends up being Myles Garrett for his next team, and it’s not the Jets, we’re gonna be kicking ourselves if we drafted a player who doesn’t make a huge impact for this team.

we are technically entering year two with Robert Saleh and his coaching staff we will draft players to continue building this team not adding just one what if. from specific sources they are really high on a few players and will be happy to take whomever is on the board when they pick and from knowledge of conversations they are open to dealing any pick to trade down or up to help grow this team.

I could see them picking a TE later in the draft as the priority has lessened but the position was a desert for production last year and no job should be safe.
I still would like an OL and EDGE early in the draft simply because of injuries to Lawson and Becton. Yeah they look great but you never know until the pads go on.
WR must be addressed within the 1st 4 picks IMO. If they trade 4 or 10 I still feel they must add a wideout early.
RB must be addressed early. Love the Kid but I am not too confident after that.
If those need are addressed early I would go mostly defense after that.

I get it. I’ve been a supporter of the JD rebuild for as long as he’s been here. I know quick fixes and splashy FA overpays are doomed to failure. We’ve been there, done that.

But building through the draft and making economically sound FA deals aren’t the only ways to rebuild it. You can’t suck for 3-4 years in a rebuild. We’re at a point, IMO, in this rebuild to take a swing at a player who fits the positional need and culture of the team. Deebo comes from SF and is well known by Saleh/Lefleur. He doesn’t beat women and children like Tyreek Hill. His production warrants a big payday. We have the payroll to make the move. He would take this offense up another level and elevate Zach Wilson. There’s too many reasons to make a deal. But obviously it takes a willingness from Lynch, a reasonable offer, and a Deebo long term contract extension to make any of this happen.

I’m skeptical it happens. We Jets fans can’t have nice things.

I am not for trading for a disgruntled player who wants out because how they utilized his skill set. instead of speaking up he is demanding out. sorry but how long until he does the same if he lands with us? he wants a ballpark figure of 5 years $140 M with $120 M gtd is what I am hearing from his inner circle, fuck no. He wants to be a receiver but wants to dictate what he is willing to do, then the team wants two premium first round picks and a player. He is good but not that good or worth that compensation.

patience is a problem because the ownership has been the ring leader of the circus that was created several years ago. we finally get a competent general manager with a focused head coach and an eager coaching staff with a plan and the idea of how to build said team but everyone bought in for year one now are back to get that, sign this guy we going to the Super Bowl, like oh my gaud, seriously?

we are in need of so many pieces throughout the roster and they are trying to build the right way by drafting, by signing low key veteran role players who will instill values for the young guys while splash signings players coming off their rookie contracts to 2 and 3 year deals that won't break the cap, smart move(s). but Rome was not built in one day and this plan takes three years to show complete success in wins with playoff potential.

could we be a playoff contender year two, yes but we don't need to be stupid in making dumb trades that could cost us. we need to be smart in the draft and fill the roles that are still open. Could we double dip a position in the draft? Yes, maybe three of them. Not WR, but DL, LB, DB all are on the table.

This is the equivalent of buying a high end sports car while living in an apartment in Brooklyn. Let’s gets us a nice house in a good neighborhood with a good school district and work on being a family.

If we take an OT at #4, we'll control the line of scrimmage. Run, run, short pass, first down, 17 plays, Touchdown, control the clock. We still have the 10th, 2 2nd, 3rd, 2 4ths, 2 5ths to add to the Defense.
Yeah and those 2 5ths are going to tear up the league.

...or we could simply not pick an OT at #4 (because we really don't need one) and draft a WR, EDGE, or CB at #4 and/or #10, use some of the later picks on defense, RB, TE. LBs will be tough this draft...but I digress. And use the 5th round picks on project OLs.

That’s fine as long as fans are good with the slow burn to success. Something like this:

2022: 6-11
2023: 9-8
2024: 11-6 (Hey we made the playoffs!)

And this is assuming Zach is the answer and most draft picks and bargain FA moves are a success.

When the Raiders and Dolphins are dancing their way into the playoffs with Davonte Adams and Tyreek Hill, nobody’s gonna give two shits about their salaries. They’re gonna say “thank God we had the balls to take a big swing and go for it”. Established stars.

Yes, the Jets aren’t quite at the level of the Raiders yet, but Deebo gets them a lot closer.

Not really. Yes he improves the team a lot. But he would cost a lot to acquire. And those resources on their own would also improve the team a lot. He doesn't warrant QB money and the 49ers don't warrant qb compensation.

You should have started and stopped with that last statement. . From that last statement you don’t then make your follow up post to @gmf1369 . The Raiders know what they have in Carr and forgive me but the fish did exactly what you want the Jets to do . If we’re talking about the package the Jets and Chiefs agreed on for Hill then by all means. If we’re talking about the 10th pick plus another top 40 pick then you can go spit .
