Are the Jets a playoff team in 2022?

The way they're building this year I’d say anything is possible but being realistic, I’d say 7 to 9 wins is very possible and expected. Anything less than that is a true disappointment. If they keep building and growing together correctly, next year will definitely be the year. Not just making the playoffs but being a true threat in the playoffs. Bengals did it, why can’t the Jets!!!

Yep I said 3 years Im giving my Jets after passing on 2 great QBs but got Zach a high risk reward guy. Jets got a GM and Coach I wanted and while Im happy, Jets are not a sure PlayOff team. That said, Jets mesh quickly ,protects Zach and not have ball dropped ,bouncing to opponants the Jets could get a wild card. AFC is loaded League. Next year...METS! Sorry lets go JETs

I set my expectations high because I believe in what the team is doing front office-wise and coaching wise . The best move for this roster was Becton at RT but it might not be the best thing for Becton.
That takes courage and understanding of what you have . If we stumble again this year I won’t wilt . I know we’re on the right track.

It's really not about the right or wrong track. It's more about making less bad decisions.

The build has been incremental and I expect the results to be as well. A lot of fans don’t want to hear this, but flipping 4-13 to 11-6 isn’t likely to happen no matter who we’re talking about. The Bengals are an outlier example. The vast majority of these rebuilds happen over 3-4 years. It takes time to accumulate the necessary talent across an NFL roster, not to mention the chemistry that develops between players.

With that said, the arrow is pointing upwards for this team, assuming Zach Wilson progresses.

There are certain teams that year-to-year are good. They won't necessarily go deep in the playoffs every year, but you know opposing coaches circle their calendars when they play these teams. Call it culture, good coaching, good ownership, but for sure , the Jets for a long time do not have it! Numbers and disappointments don't lie!
The most consistent thing about this team it's we the fans, no matter where we are!Jets Copter.jpg

Well last season, the Jets were probably a 6-11 team without all of the injuries. Staying healthy was another condition for making the playoffs. I didn't mention it in the op but I felt like it was implied. Yes, injuries can cause this team finish 7-10. But I digress. I don't think the jump is as big as you make it out to be. 10-7 is very realistic. Also, the Jets went from 4-12 to 10-6 in each of the past 2 decades. They even accomplished that feat without any talent.

And rebuilds should never take more than 2 seasons. If they do then something must've gone wrong.

Generally speaking most rebuilding teams have neither enough draft picks or cap space to do a complete rebuild in 2 seasons. That's the main reason it takes 3 or 4 seasons. You also have no way of knowing until you get him playing if your draft pick was a good pick or a bust. A successful rebuild in 2 seasons would be great but expecting that to happen, my friend, is just unrealistic. I do share your anxiousness though.

You can't draft a team in 3-4 seasons either...21-28 players 9-12 of which are from rounds 5-7...basically impossible. And unless you have players whose release would result in negative cap savings, cap space can be cleared in a season.

A rebuild has to be 2 seasons because the average NFL career is 4 seasons. And a rebuild would include more than the draft. It would include UDFAs and free agency. In spite of what others will tell you, there's nothing wrong with signing free agents...learn to like it.

Right now, the rebuild of the Jets has been completed. All that's left is making smart personnel decisions going forward.

Agree. We’re talking about 53 players not just starters. Depth is crucial to success with every team suffering injuries every year. Some injuries are devastating, and it’s usually because there’s no depth to replace them. This is where hitting on picks beyond the 1st round and good development come into play. As does a little luck. The 49ers landed George Kittle in the 5th round. Mind boggling. Fred Warner in the 3rd round. Deebo Samuel in the 2nd. These are star players. The Jets need to hit on players like this in the draft to turn the tide more quickly.

As Bum Phillips once said, "This year we will knock on the door (of the Playoffs)". "Next year we will kick it down". Actually, he was referring to the SuperBowl. I expect the Jets to knock nicely this year and slam it in their face next year!!!

Regarding the playoffs or the superbowl?

I'm just bumping this thread to continue the discussion. Since Douglas knocked it out of the park with the draft, this team has way too much talent to be a middle-of-the-road team. The biggest question marks going into this season in addition to the aforementioned were Zach, the coaching staff. This team started slow and Zach was injured. But it's turning out that Zach is at least a solid game manager with a high ceiling. and the coaching staff is maturing. With the amount of talent on this team, calling them a 7-10 win team is selling them short. They're clearly one of the better teams in football. 6-0 would've been very possible with a healthy Zach Wilson the entire season. And if Wilson continues to improve, 12-5 is in the discussion. There may be bumps in the road this season and they may not get there. But right now, this team looks to be better than 7-10 wins.

Agree that they’re ahead of the curve, but let’s see what happens against the Bills. That’s a true indication of where we stand. The Bills are Top Dog. We have to compete with them. Not necessarily beat them this season, but they have to be competitive to be taken serious in that division.

The Bills are the cream of the division, yes, but the two games against the Cheats will be a pretty big litmus test as well. That dirty SOB Belichik is a POS who hates our guts, but he is a brilliant coach with unbelievable pregame preparation and in-game adjustment abilities (and lethal defensive tactics). How we fare in both games will be a real good testament for us.

Zach has shown signs.
Zach has not screwed up.
coaching staff makes half time adjustments
defense is freaking awesome
special teams pretty good too
too many good receivers to keep track of
and the running game? OMG

all that said, the AFC has a lot of very good teams. Every game will be a dog fight

if we were in the NFC, no doubt we make the playoffs

did someone actually touch brady yesterday? I just saw him ripping into his collective offensive line. Didn’t we just thump the Steelers who just beat brady? Even the , not so good, AFC teams are, not that bad. And we just beat one of the supposedly better NFC teams by 17 in their home

and don’t let me forget our battered offensive line. Even with all the injuries they look pretty damn good too!

The Patriots look good with Zappe. They dismantled the Browns yesterday. We can’t take the Pats lightly for sure.
