Chris Culliver - DB - 49ers
The Jets have shown interest in free agent CB Chris Culliver, according to the New York Post.
The Jets have money to burn and it seems they're going to spend their dough on a free agent cornerback. Darrelle Revis is obviously their first choice, but the Patriots are going to fight tooth and nail for him. In what was likely his final year with the Niners, the 26-year-old Culliver contributed 45 tackles and four interceptions. He serves as a nice safety net for the Jets in case Revis returns to Foxboro.

I know he is not better than Revis, but he is decent and much younger. Revis helps us this year, but will start declining in the next two years when we will hopefully be ascending.

This is where the new rules, i.e. the three day window, is extremely counter productive. If you have your eye on a pending free agent like Revis, it forces you to make a decision, do we wait for said pending FA to hit the open market at the risk that his former team will get him re-signed in the three day window, and risk losing our fallback options like Maxwell and Culiver if other teams swoop in and sign them, or do we wait it out ... and pray?

IMO the three day window is a disaster.

revis has to be cut to be available...why wait? I think he needs to be cut by EOD today but could be wrong. Jets should be after 26 year olf Culliver over 30 year old Revis anyway...at half the price.

I agree, but my point is it forces the Jets to make a decision, and if they choose waiting for Revis which appears to be the case, they could conceivably wind up with neither, and its because the three day window is a joke. FA should start abruptly as it always did, and after teams make decisions on their own guys like Revis.

truth is they made this 3 day period legal, they were negotiating in this window before illegally before the rule. You dont think the Haynesworth $100 mill contract was really negotiated in 1 minute after midnight do you?

I'm wondering what other major players for a CB remain now? Far fewer suitors for Culliver now that Maxwell, Flowers, Jackson are signed. And the Patriots seriously can't be one of those teams can they?

Sign this guy.

Then worry about Revis - I bet we could find $ for both but when in doubt take the younger guy who can sign now.

We really do need to sign this guy cause I think NE will find a way today to keep Revis by end of day today. This is a much better signing than Cary Williams. I bet he still receives close to 9M a year.

Mac better not fall for Revis stringing us along to get more money out of the pats and let all the CBs fly off the board. He cant get too caught up in "Revis games;" and its the off season, this is Revis' favorite time of year.

You make one really good offer and if he doesn't sign it on the spot, opting instead to shop it back to the Pats, then you tell him the offer only exists until he leaves the room, at which point you move on to Plan B (Culiver?)

That should be a today conversation while negotiating with Culliver today also...

Screw Revis he's too expensive & old. Drive up the price, then walk away. The best bang for the buck is the Packers Davon House 6'/195 who only 25 and ready to become a star CB. We need to get younger, faster & cheaper.

Technically he is still Patriots property, so not a great idea. I'm sure others do it (tamper), but we would get caught and lose draft picks. The fallout would not be worth it.
