Geno Smith?

It was reported that the Jets are going to go with Michael Vick again next week. Guess he wasn't hurt too much last night. This is a two question point for all of you.

1. What do you think of Geno?
2. What do you think the organization thinks of Geno?

I personally like Geno and thought he had the tools. It sucks that I am probably wrong. He has the arm and the mobility but just cannot stop staring down receivers. On the other hand, I think the organization is done with Geno and they have no confidence in him. When he came in and replaced Vick yesterday, we started running the ball more. Such a shame. I can honestly say that the Rex Ryan regime has ruined two young QBs. I hope Geno gets one more chance. At least now that we are out of it.

What's the point of having Vick out there when he is looking just as bad as Geno. At least we could try developing Geno and maybe pawn him off for a late draft pick if he's not in our future plans.

1) 39th ranked QB in the NFL

2) See above

Geno is horrible, nobody in the league is going to give up even a 7th.

Idk. There's something that makes me believe in him. I know he will probably never get a shot at starting in this league again but I did see some flashes from him. He lit up Atlanta last year on MNF and played very well towards the end of last year. This year, he regressed. Shame because all the training camp reports, even from KRL, showed promise.

Saw him play at WV, second half of the season he was very bad. He was horrible in the Pinstripe bowl. Sanchez not having a very good camp was way ahead of him when he was injured. Smith was horrible with 1 or 2 exceptions, the first 12 games of the season. The last 4, it wasn't that he was playing well, for the most part they weren't letting him throw the ball. he was mostly running to make plays. He didn't turn the ball over much, and every one got excited.

He comes back this season and is horrible for 8 games. Shows no improvement.

I've seen enough, time to move on. He won't be cut most likely, but he shouldn't be handed the team. Jets should draft a QB early in the 1st round, sign a caretaker vet, until the rookie is ready. Smith can be #3 until his contract is up.

If he has any talent it will show as #3, but I don't want to see him on the field. if they want to see what anyone can do, there really isn't a down side to playing Simms. He'll probably stink, but he should be given a 5 game window to see if that's the case before they move on from him also

I agree on Simms. Out of the three, I'm curious to see what Simms can do. He looked good in limited time today.

I didn't like the pick at all and living close to WVA i heard alot about how he wins games mostly with his athleticism but it would not translate to the NFL.

He is a great college QB but in the NFL you need more brains than athleticism.

I think the best QB of that class will be Nassib even though he won't be a brees but I can see him being a tannehill like QB which means he will be a winning QB but every now and then have some clunkers.

Actually Tannerhill has been looking pretty good as late. We'll see how that works out as the season winds down.

Smith had to excellent college WR's in an air raid Offense. Most of his balls didn't travel then 3-4 yards, and the rest was all YAC

Tannehill is going to look like marino monday night wouldn't be surprised if they do the fake spike again God knows Rex won't prepare for it.

I think Rex is starting Vick because he feels he gives him the best chance to win right now. If Rex was not going to be fired at the end of this season, I believe he would start Geno to see if there is any possibility he could be our QB of the future. Rex is not concerned for the long term since it would be a miracle if he were brought back as HC next season.

That makes sense but if that was the case why wait so long to let vick start?

I can almost see why Geno had to start the season esp with a lack of real competition rex snafu #1 but to leave him in until your season is lost makes no sense.

Depends on who is calling the shots on the starting QB. I don't think it's Rex

I agree that he waited to long to make the switch. I fully expected Geno to start the season, but I thought at 1-3 or 1-4 Rex would have made the switch before the season went down the drain.

Right now though, I think he is just trying to win games, and he apparently feels Vick gives him the best chance.

Good morning fellas, i scoured every thread on this website to get a pure Geno Smith topic and of course i found it on the last page after a good 20 minutes. I thought it would be appropriate to continue on this headline as it underlines Geno Smith with a huge question mark on it.

Ok, here goes (and no i didn't smoke before writing what im about to write...maybe i should have though)

I have been maybe the most critical Geno Smith Jets fan that i can recall by reading many of the posters here (and the old site). Sure there are anti-Geno fans, but i feel i have bashed the hell out of him ever since John Idzik selected him in the 2013 2nd round draft. I bitched and yelled like no other. I'll tell you why:

He was a project QB (with alot of talent) going onto a team that was headed by a great defensive minded coach who had no idea how to develop a QB. Hell, it was ground and pound all day, even if we were down by 25. Though if the team tried to throw (Marty's M.O), there would be some sort of division, in which there was.

Geno IMHO was thrown into the fire and seemed lost as soon as the game began to speed up. As soon as the game plan began to become convoluted. As soon as the game became tight. There was no one grooming him. It was all on him, such with Mark Sanchez. Fans turned on him faster than a witch hunt (i being one of them).

Now comes the new regime. They preach what there predecessors here with the team preached: "Competition". Though, Rex really gave QB's a pass with this rule. Signing Vick last year was supposed to ignite Smith to play beyond his capabilities and see what he has to maintain the starting job. Yet, week after week as Geno continued to fail, he was still kept in the starting line up. This can only mean one thing:

YOU CAN DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT, EVERYTHING IS PERMISSIBLE. MISS TEAM MEETINGS. THROW 3 PICKS IN ONE QUARTER. ITS OK, YOU HAVE NO THREAT ANY ONE WILL TAKE YOUR JOB.

In essence, there was absolutely no discipline to steer this kid in the right path. Now, lets fast forward to the new regime. Todd Bowles has been around some average to great QB that have excelled under, the right system, the right tutelage and the right environment. Environment being, DO YOUR JOB OR NEXT MAN UP.

Redskins: Doug Williams & Mark Rypien. These are no hall of famers folks. But Joe Gibbs had a formula and that is what Bowles is bringing with him.

49ers: Joe Montana & Steve Young: These are hall of famers folks. Though Bill walsh/ George Seifert knew to place these leaders in position to have their respective talents flourish, not wither them ala GROUND AND POUND.

Jets/Cowboys/Cardinals: Vinny Testaverde/Chad Pennington/Drew Beldsoe/Tony Romo. Your average stud QB folks. Bill Parcells knew that sometimes a veteran must pave the way for a young gun to over take the throne. If merited.

Geno Smith is finally in a position to prove the nay sayers (such as i'am) wrong under this environment. The Jets brought in a QB in Ryan Fitzpatrick who is very familiar with Chan Gailey. Maccagnan drafted a potential replacement for the future in Bryce Petty (friggin "A"!). The table is set for Geno to either:

Fall flat on his face as many of us think he will with the kind of competition he hasn't seen since, hell maybe high school in which everything has been given to him.

OR

Prove 99% of the football world that the environment that he is currently under will discipline him in being a QB that will be dependable, serviceable and most importantly, RELIABLE into a winning QB.
IMHO, as a die hard Jets fan, i'am pushing for this kid to scratch and claw in becoming our stud signal caller for years to come if it all clicks.

Lets do this Geno!

Do you really believe Geno is that good that he hasn't faced any competition since high school? Everything has been handed to him? I doubt the coach at West Virginia just handed the job to Geno and he was just as good in the Big 12 his last year as Petty. What competition is he facing now? Fitz is ready to come in if he fails and he isn't competing against Petty this season.

LOL I know what you mean, its so tedious.

We're playing the hand we've been dealt, a young Joe Montana is not walking thru that door at Florham Park, its Geno, Fitzpatrick and Petty, not exactly a panoply of Hall of Fame QB's to choose from.

So I really don't understand what we're arguing about?

Because of my sincere and honest good feelings for my two dearest friends here at JFU, 55 and 82, AKA the 137 Fan Club, I hereby promise to make this my final post at this (as Football51 so accurately stated) sorely needed new thread

My closing thought....he stunk in 2013, stunk in 2014, stinks now and will be gone, goodbye in 2016

Thank you all very much, enjoy this thread if you wish and au revoir

Please, no one respond to the above post.......... it's not worth it.
Poor horse. That damn thing has been shot, stabbed, beaten, thrown off of a roof, run over, suffocated, tied to a bumper and dragged, drawn and quartered, guillotined, hung, and slapped by an old lady's purse.
I think it's dead.
