OKAY, so now I'm starting to truly understand why they drafted Williams. It's not because he was available at #6, or he was the best player available on the board or they even had him rated the highest player on their board and wanted to draft him for that reason. All these reasons may very well be true but the real reason why they drafted him is because Richardson is a f%cking idiot. Shit like this will get him locked up real soon and out of football if he keeps this up. If not out of football period then not with the Jets at least. You know Mac and Bowles are not going to put up with this sh*t! Now I'm also understanding why they are not willing to trade Wilkerson. Pay the man PLEASE!!!

To the credit of the Patriots, who I despise, they cut ties and got rid of their drug infested felon Aaron Hernandez almost immediately after his arrest.

I know this is not murder, however, I hope Mr Johnson kicks our drug infested felon Richardson out the door permanently before tomorrow's practice

Shame this wasn't in Mass. They could put Richardson and Hernandez in the same cell. Hell of a flag football team

He says he is not a dope fiend but every time there is a story about him marijuana is involved. It's like if you come home from work early 3 times a year and your kid is smoking weed every time. Probably you should infer that he is smoking weed every day. Additionally, depression, which he claims to be suffering, is a side-effect of long-term use. Obviously it is causing effects to the rest of his personal and professional life, so to me this means he needs to be in treatment.
Agreed! Either he's talking this depression stuff as a excuse to get sympathy and he's in denial or if he really is depressed, he needs to get help. Either way, it appears he's going to need to get help before he's out of football period.

It's pretty easy to die driving 143. Damn he's effin stupid.

He's not too different than Aaron Hernandez at this point, in that he needs to go back to the old hood and hang with the element

Sheldon is an idiot and if the facts can be confirmed then we should cut him ASAP. But what he did, as selfish and reckless as it was, pales in comparison to what Hernandez did. It's not even close!

So, we basically trade Revis and get Sheldon in return and that could have been awesome, but instead Revis won a SB with the Pats and Sheldon may be out of the league. Thanks, Sheldon!! You are a complete douchebag.

Right now the info is all over the place. Bleacher report just posted an article that they surveyed three high ranking executives and they think he may never play another down in the NFL.

Think their poop stirring. I think Richardson is going to get the "local star treatment" in Mo. They just had riots. Richardson is a well known guy.

What the NFL does is something different. This is horrible timing. The NFL just made a big stand against their big star. Part of Brady's case is that he was treated more harshly then other players. Here is a chance for the NFL to show their tough on all bad actor stars. Part of the reason Brady was whacked so hard is because he didn't co-operate. Richardson didn't even tell anyone about it. Today he gave a news conference saying "you'll never see me on the news again" LOL half hour later this breaks.

He won't be banned for life, but I won't be surprised at a year.

I had no idea SR was such an immature idiot. He's on the verge of being a very wealthy man, with a great reputation as an elite player, and he completely vomits AND craps the bed.

I've lost a lot of respect for him. Pay Wilkerson and dump this dope.

I don't think so. I think Macc was truly blindsided by the fact that Leonard Williams slipped to 6. He was the best player to slip that far, and would've been stupid to pass him up.

I don't think Sheldon Richardson had a thing to do with the pick. This latest Richardson news was supposedly kept secret from the team by Richardson. So for those keeping score: busted the second time for weed, racing at 135 mph, resisting arrest by speeding away from cops, carrying a gun in his car, and endangering the life of a 12 year old.

He's a moron. An immature, empty head. He just made Macc's decision easy regarding the defensive line. Re-sign Wilkerson and Snacks, and bet on the kid Williams. Dopey is under Jets control until 2017, so trade his ass for a conditional pick and be done with it.

I'm so pissed off about this. What a DOPE!

Thats the only way to go with this, J13, otherwise it will continue to haunt you that we lost one of our best players in the prime of his career, almost certainly for most if not all of this year, and seeing how stupid he is, probably forever.

At this point I'm treating it like he suffered a season ending injury, no exceptions of seeing him again this year so its time to move on, NEXT MAN UP (Leonard Williams), and moving forward I'm viewing it as a career ending injury too.

I have ZERO thoughts of this fool riding to the rescue this year or ever again. To quote Michael Corleone, he's dead too me.

If he manages to resurrect his career, fine, but I'm not expecting to ever see him again.

I was searching for a Richardson jersey and could not find one a couple months ago. What a waste of cash that would have been.

Cimini dead on article on Richardson

http://espn.go.com/blog/new-york-je...elf-and-organization-by-trying-to-hide-arrest

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- This looks bad for Sheldon Richardson, real bad. Two weeks after getting suspended by the NFL on a marijuana violation, he gets into his 2014 Bentley and decides to be Mario Andretti, allegedly racing another car up to speeds of 143 mph, according to police.

Wait, it gets worse: He allegedly speeds away from police, trying to hide in a stranger's driveway. The police track him down, smell marijuana in the car and find a loaded handgun under the seat.

Now, the really bad part: There's a 12-year-old kid in the car.

Somehow, the New York Jets' talented defensive end walked away facing only a resisting-arrest charge, a misdemeanor, and some traffic violations. It would be troubling enough if this were an isolated incident, but now we have a pattern of poor behavior. If the facts of the case are accurate -- they were released Thursday by the St. Charles County (Missouri) prosecutor -- Richardson exhibited sheer recklessness and a frighting lack of judgement.

The Jets should be angry. They are angry. They were blindsided by the news, which came down about an hour after practice ended -- about an hour after Richardson stood in front of reporters and vowed, "[The Jets] don't have to worry about my name being in the news again."

How can the Jets ever trust Richardson? Instead of confiding in them two weeks ago when it happened, he kept them in the dark, putting them in the uncomfortable position of having to learn the details at the same time as the media. Not only did he embarrass himself and his family, but he shamed his employer, and that's something the organization never can forget.

This is a player who already has dropped hints about deserving a $100 million contract in the future. He's lucky if he gets a second contract, period. No organization will invest franchise money in a high-risk player, especially in the post-Ray Rice era. Already facing a four-game suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, Richardson is only one strike away from a 10-game suspension. It's hard to say how this latest incident will impact his status -- no drug charges were filed -- but it appears to be a violation of the personal-conduct policy. His failure to disclose the information in a timely manner also violates the policy.

In short, he's a train wreck.

Before the news broke, Todd Bowles backed Richardson, saying they'd "help him hopefully get help with his problem" -- thinking it was just the suspension. A short time later, the Jets' coach discovered his Pro Bowl defensive end -- seemingly unfazed by the suspension -- was prepping for training camp by burning rubber on the highways of his hometown, St. Louis.

"I'm not a dope fiend, man," Richardson said before the arrest became news.

If he's not a dope fiend, he's just a dope. Not only did he endanger his own life, but he endangered the lives of at least three others, including the 12-year-old.

Richardson probably ruined his future with the Jets, who should look to trade him after the season. They can live without him as long as they re-sign Muhammad Wilkerson and Damon Harrison, both of whom are entering contract years. Wilkerson is a terrific player and does all the right things; he deserves the big deal, not Richardson. They have No. 1 pick Leonard Williams ready to replace Richardson; he already is working with the starters.

This is reminiscent of John Abraham in the mid-2000s. Abraham, a first-round pick in 2000, was a gifted pass-rusher, but his off-the-field problems scared the new regime that took command in 2006. Despite a 10.5-sack season in '05, he was traded for the first-round pick, which turned out to be Nick Mangold.

You could see the Richardson situation playing out the same way. They can't move him now because he has little trade value -- it would have to be a fire sale -- so they will have to wait until the offseason. Bowles, who stressed accountability in his opening-night speech to the team, shouldn't have to build a team with unreliable, immature players who repeatedly let down their teammates. Maybe not now, but eventually he will sack the team's leading sacker.
