250 Greatest Guitarists

Just thought of a great SF Bay Area guitarist in the Michael Hedges mold, Danny Heines. Stunning two-handed attack with lots of slapping of the fretboard. I saw him live a few times back in the 90s. Just totally blew me away with his precision and musical dexterity.

These two pieces are just Danny playing alone (sounds like three guitarists). The various parts are played/recorded live with no overdubs. That's just insane.

Another one I'd add(actually, there's a ton) is Buck Dharma.
We must be on the same wavelength. I mentioned Dharma above. Yeah, he's a talented player.

Your post prompted another guy who should receive some consideration: Das ist Michael Schenker! I loved UFO back in the day. His solo work is pretty good, too. I would kill for Schenker's Flying V.

Without looking at the list, if Les Paul, the inventor of the electric guitar, isn't #1, it isn't worth anything. Without him, we never would have heard of many of the others on the list.
Later
Even with his troubles with Gibson, he flourished.

EDIT: My error. RS did have Nels on their list. Any other Wilco fans? I'd add Nels Cline for some consideration. Beautiful song below with Nels' gorgeous solo at about 2:48.

Just reading an article on Guitar World where Sammy Hagar and Joe Satriani on Howard Stern explain some of Eddie Van Halen's toughest to play riffs. Let's just say that #94 on the RS list does him proud. What fucking tone! Check out Satch's technique on the two tunes in the video below. Wow. The article also has the band--which includes Michael Anthony and Jason Bonham--playing a few others, too.

After posting the video above, I've spent most of the afternoon in Big Bill Broonzy world. Maybe universe is more correct.

This guy influenced so many rock players. Incredible finger style technique and POWERFUL blues chops. Watch him wail through "Hey Hey".

Today's thought goes to Patrick Simmons of The Doobie Brothers. He and Tom Johnston were a formidable rock guitar duo. Great technique on this softer piece.

We're on the same page! See my shirt? It's blurry because the original file was too big. It's Schenker '76
