A look at what's going on around the New York Jets: Love for Geno

ESPN -- You remember Geno Smith, don't you? He could be a factor if Fitzpatrick leaves, according to Maccagnan. The GM said Smith "could definitely be a possibility in that [starting] role," although he tempered that statement by saying Smith is "a bit of an unknown" because he rode the bench last season. Guard Willie Colon, for one, still believes in Smith.

"I think Geno has been humbled," Colon said on ESPN New York 98.7 FM. "I think he's been at the bottom; he's taken on everything. I think he's ready to rise. I still have confidence in him. ...If Fitz doesn't come back, I'd like to see Geno get another shot."

It's nice that Colon said that, but here's what Woody Johnson said today.

from The Jets Blog

"If the Jets don't sign Fitzpatrick, the coaching staff and GM Mike Maccagnan would look at alternatives to Geno Smith."

Woody: "Hopefully, we’re getting better at evaluating talent and picking talent, particularly quarterbacks." #nyj

Ouch, doesn't seem like Woody is a big Geno fan

He could have added 'developing talent'.

Mac and Bowles saying what they have said is merely coach speak. Both of them know of the impending doom associated with having Geno start. Colon just thinks he's been humbled. He doesn't know anything more than that. He wants to believe in Geno , ONLY if he's the only option for the NYJ. Nothing more.

As for any fans that are giving Geno love? Well, they must be on crack to believe in that bum.

This guy got LUCKY to be the starter in 2013 becayse Sanchez went down in a preseason game. Now, I'm sure all of you have heard the phrase that you must make the most of any chance given to you, right? It's true and it's said over and over again in football because you never just how many of chances you might get.

Well, Geno has gotten NUMEROUS chances. He started for two straight years and not a player or fan, unless they are delusional, thought he was anything better than pure, 100% garbage.

Hell, he even got a chance to play smack dab in the middle of Fitz renaissance year.

EVERY time he spit the bit. Every time he sucked. He showed his true colors every single time and every single time it was nothing better than unacceptable.

This, while in the middle of all these chances awarded to him, he made a damn fool out of himself and the NYJ organization as a whole. He showed his true intellect was that of a turnip.

So I don't care if he became Mother Theresa combined with Peyton Manning, he got his chance with the NYJ. And I absolutely do NOT believe the previous sentence, but just saying.

If it weren't for the money pertaining to Geno's measly salary coupled with this contract dispute the Jets find themselves in with Fitz, he would have been cut long ago. His time is up. The Jets need to move on once and for all. Not only for the health of their locker room and every single front office person, but most of all because the fans deserve more.

Translation: if you don't agree with me, you're on crack, delusional, ect.

This is comical.

Well, then apparently you disagree with every single person that has posted in this thread. Knowing your track record of selling out to protect pathetic, sh*tty players like Geno Smith, against big, bad evil MJ, as if I speak anything but the truth.

So YES, I very much think your thoughts on Geno are VERY much delusional. I would mention the other part but that could get me in trouble with Elias, so I won't post the words. Rest assured you are smoking something very strange if you still believe in that shitbag. Your thoughts are IRRELEVANT.

lets be nice folks

I will say this If TB believes in Geno I will back him. I have faith in TB for now
well, QB's get coaches/GM's fired.. often.. if we are to believe woody's quotes in this thread, he is no longer interested in smith being his starting QB.. period..

if i were bowles/mac i would take woody's quotes an smith extremely seriously.. wouldn't you??

Woody is an I___t so I would tell him to stuff it. I hope TB did not take this job to be controlled by Woody. Woody needs to stay out of the way. That is why I would not works for Woody. I have six teams I love in sports.

The saint louis cards have a great great owner
The AZ cardinals have a Great owner
The Boston Celtics have a good owner
The Boston Bruins have a good owner
The Saint louis blues have an owner that is really trying
The Jets have a disaster as a owner.....I know I am not really a fan.... BS I Love the Jets.

Now I am one of the few people that believe that people can change so I pray for Woody but I am not betting the ranch on him. I would love to see DeWitt buy the Jets.

Now that being said I don't like Smith myself I want him gone but I trust TB so I would back him if he wants him to start.

Like I said Jetgreen, what they are saying about Geno is very clearly coach speak and nothing more. It's not like they are going to readily admit to the press that they think he's a shitbag and should be released at once. Talk like that is not wise. they need to remain tight lipped.

When Geno got punched out, don't you think the correct thing to do was cut BOTH players? I do. But because there were salary cap implications behind cutting Geno then and their QB position was very much up in the air last preseason, they simply could NOT do what was right. They had to do what right for their salary cap.

I believe Woody, Bowles, and Mac are all on the same page about Geno. They all do not like him and rightfully so, but releasing him without any viable replacements for the roster and the salary he's getting is blurring the lines on a very simple decision. If the decision was being made 100% based on his play and his conduct with the NYJ he would have been gone long ago.

Geno is not owed anything by this regime, he needs to more than anyone to earn his spot... As of right now, it is looking more and more that he is on his way out (trade or simple release)...

But Woody a glorified fan with a trust fund needs to let the big boys do their work and he needs to stay out of it including making dumb remarks to the media... Now because of his remark how the hell do we keep Geno on the roster if we can not re-sign Fitzpatrick and don't sign RG3 or anyone else we be forced to draft and ruin another young QB's future by forcing either this year's rookie or Petty to start...

you're asking bowles to run into fast moving traffic to spite the team's owner over smith?? head coaching jobs don't grow on trees regardless of how little use you have for johnson..

i bet i wouldn't lose my damn job over "what's his face" but i suspect bowles has no intention of doing that either..

It's nice that Colon said that, but here's what Woody Johnson said today.

from The Jets Blog

"If the Jets don't sign Fitzpatrick, the coaching staff and GM Mike Maccagnan would look at alternatives to Geno Smith."

The owner has the pulse of the fan base
I love Woody

we don't..

all johnson did is state the painfully obvious.. he's as sick at looking at smith as 99.9% of our fan base..

you don't want to "ruin" another young QB?? draft another QB to compete with petty & bring in a journeyman next season to start & reload when we are back out of "cap hell" in 2017.. then let's hope like hell petty or the other young guy is ready at some point in year 2018.....
