Mike Tannenbaum destroying the #Dolphins cap situation with arguably the worst head coach in football makes this #Jets fan smile

From Rotoworld.

25. Joe Philbin
Career Record: 23-25 (.479)
With The Dolphins Since: 2012
Last Year’s Ranking: 25

The grandest of mediocrities, Joe Philbin is not an NFL coach. He is a shrinking violet garbed in an aqua polo and adorned with a headset. He is a man unloved by his players, outwitted by his rivals and overwhelmed by his duties. An “offensive mind,” Philbin does not call his own plays. That leaves his primary function as “leading.” This is not good because Philbin’s primary failing is leadership. Not every NFL coach is going to be Pete Carroll or Mike Ditka. Loud does not equal “lead.” But if you’re going to be the quiet type, you better have a firm grasp on the pulse of your team. This is something Philbin insisted he didn’t have when he pled ignorance again and again in the Dolphins’ “Bullygate” scandal. Philbin’s locker room was fracturing into factions, and whether it was willful or intentional, he had no idea. Once Philbin finally does discover his problems, he ships them out instead of coaching them up.Brandon Marshall and Vontae Davis have both thrived since Philbin sent them packing, while the Dolphins have spent millions and many draft picks trying to replace them.

Not that Philbin’s failures all come behind closed doors. As a game manager, his top innovation has been calling late timeouts on defense in one-score games. This brilliant tactic helped produce two wins in 2014 … for thePackers and Lions. Philbin’s other speciality is dialing up field goals. Unfortunately for Dolphins fans, only five teams had worse field-goal percentages last season. Philbin is John Harbaugh if he never won. He’s Mike Tomlin if he never showed fire. He’s Jason Garrett if he never smiled. He is the worst coach in the NFL.

Yeah, I was surprised they made Pounce the highest paid center. It is widely known he's a step down from his brother but he does have position flexibility. Interesting the Vontae Davis and Marshall plots, though those decisions aren't on Mike T.

Raiders, Dolphins, Ravens showing interest Michael Crabtree

Former 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree has been our top-ranked available free agent for weeks. Three teams have emerged as the favorites to land him.

The Raiders, Dolphins and Ravens have shown the most interest in signing Crabtree, reports Matt Maiocco of CSNBayArea.com. That matches what PFT has heard. We’ve also heard that the Raiders currently appear to be the favorites.

The Ravens will get more interested if Crabtree is still available on May 13. That’s the last day that free agent signings count toward the compensatory pick formula, and the Ravens are the kings of compensatory picks.

Crabtree will take his time about finding the right team. He showed as a rookie that he wouldn’t sign until he got the offer he wanted, staging one of the longest rookie holdouts in NFL history before finally signing a contract in October. Crabtree has a history of waiting to get a deal done.

Whenever the wait ends, it looks like it will wind up with Crabtree in Oakland, Miami or Baltimore.

@RapSheet: #Raiders expected to sign WR Michael Crabtree in a deal that should be done tonight, per source (as ESPN said). In town Wednesday to sign.

This signing has no bearing what Raiders will do in draft. will probably draft two wr's , but will it be in the first round. that's the question.

DEAL IS DONE

Five thoughts on the Raiders' agreeing to terms with Michael Crabtree

The Oakland Raiders have agreed to terms with Michael Crabtree. Here are my initial thoughts on the deal with the former San Francisco wide receiver:

Why not? This is not a high risk deal. It is expected to be a one-year contract. I don't expect Crabtree to be a huge difference-maker, but he does make a weak receiver group better. His addition can't hurt this offense. The Raiders were trying to sign Randall Cobb and Jeremy Maclin early in free agency. Receiver is arguably their biggest need. I thought Crabtree was the best veteran option available the past few weeks. He is worth a short deal.

He has lost explosion: There is no doubt Crabtree, who will turn 28 in September, has lost some ability. He had a torn Achilles in 2013, and he has been dealing with lower leg issues. He clearly wasn't the same player the past season, when he averaged just 10.3 yards a catch and his season high for receiving yards in a game was 85. On Monday, I talked to an NFL scout who said he thought Crabtree is on the downside of his career.

Worth the risk: I covered the San Francisco 49ers when Crabtree returned from his injury in 2013. Even though he wasn't explosive, he still brought a spark to a good offense. The 49ers went to Crabtree with the game on the line in the Super Bowl and in the NFC title game in back-to-back years. Yes, they couldn't get the job done. But the truth is, this is a player upon whom a good team relied not too long ago. Let's see if he can get it together again.

Carr deserves the help: Crabtree is the first receiver the Raiders have given second-year quarterback Derek Carr this year. He is not Randall Cobb or Jeremy Maclin, but I bet Carr will enjoy having another legitimate receiving option to throw to this fall.

Give Crabtree a break: I know a lot of Raiders fans -- as loyal to their team as any fan base I've seen -- are still salty with Crabtree because he appeared to be laughing when the Raiders drafted receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey three spots before the 49ers took him at No. 10 in 2009. Remember, Oakland owner Mark Davis interviewed Mike Shanahan as a head-coaching candidate in January. There were fewer greater enemies of the late Al Davis than Shanahan, his former coach with whom he was in ligation for years. If Mark Davis can consider hiring Shanahan, the Raiders can sign Crabtree.

Brad Smith - WR - Free Agent
Free agent WR/KR Brad Smith is visiting the Bills Tuesday.
There are a lot of ties here as Smith played for the Bills from 2011-13 and also played for Rex Ryan in New York from 2009-10. The visit should put incumbent special teamers/wideouts Marcus Easley and Marcus Thigpen on notice.
