It could happen if the defense keeps playing like it has thru the first five games, mostly without Sheldon.

Right now the Jets defense is playing at a ridiculous level in the "post rules changes to open up the offense" era.

The stats say they are leading the league with 75 Points Allowed in total, the next best team being Denver at 102, but even that is misleading because the Jets have surrendered two TD's on special teams (Punt Return & Blocked Punt) and the NFL does not delineate between defensive points allowed and special teams points allowed, which I believe is a flaw in how they keep their Points Allowed stats, it all goes on the defense.

In actuality the Jets defense has surrendered 61 Points thru five games, thats 12.2 PPG, an unbelievably low number in todays NFL (next is Denver at 17 PPG), we are also second in the league in turnovers on defense with 15 (Denver has 17), and talk about halftime adjustments, we have yet to surrender a single point in the 3rd Qtr, three times we have pitched shutouts in the second half, and twice we have held teams to ONE SCORE after half-time.

Look man, if your defense is gonna play like that all year, and again, most of this was without Sheldon Richardson, arguably our second best player on defense after Revis who is already a first ballot Hall of Famer, but if you are going to sustain anything even close to this level for an entire season, THEN YES, you can make it too and perhaps even win the Super Bowl with a smart, tough, albeit limited QB like Dilfer or Fitzpatrick.

I'm on board right now! Especially when we could be sitting at 2-3 if someone else was behind center. Fitz led the league in Total QBR's this week and is ranked 4th, right in front of Brady for the season. That's good enough for me.

If thats all this is, a good team, then in my view they can't win a SB with Fitzpatrick.

They can win a SB with a good (not great) offense, but they need the defense to be great, and make no mistake about it, thru the first five games this defense qualifies as great. You have to understand its all relative. They may not be historically great, but for this era, where the game is essentially designed to create more offense and more points, what the Jets defense has done thru five games is about as great as the rules will allow you to be in this era.

If that keeps up, the Jets can win a SB with Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Decker: We've shown flashes. We haven't put a complete game together. Says team has to keep chopping wood.

Fitzpatrick: We have a lot of things we can clean up. We've got to stay level.

Notice a common theme here? Next week will be just another day at work

Main takeaway from Jets locker room today: It's just another game. #nyj

Back in August what would you have given the Jets chances of Winning the Super bowl?

I'm very pleased with the way they are playing right now. Don't know if they will win the Super Bowl, but I'm going to enjoy it while they are in the hunt

If you told me Ryan Fitzpatrick would be the starter? ZERO

I underestimated him due to his arm limitations. I paid little credence to his other attributes which are now apparent. If he can play at this level, with Ivory and a lethal BIG WR duo whom he just has to get he football in their hands, and most importantly if the defense continues to play at this level, anything is possible.

What I see now is a team staying grounded emotionally while looking to improve each week. We have all the potential to put it all together and meet or exceed the challenges with coming opponents. Do we have a weakness? Absolutely, every team has them. Has our offense peaked? Hell no! Can our defense get better? Yes, with consistency. I still would like our defense to score touchdowns.

So, from a fans perspective, I'm not satisfied nor will I be yet. So far we're playing what's been dealt schedule wise. I still don't know what we're capable of. I know that we can stop teams. Can we win a shootout? We're averaging 25.8 per game. That puts us 8th in the league. When was the last time this team scored this many points? Maybe when Farve was here.

The attitude this team has is we can get better. That's what good teams do this time of year. By week 12 we'll have a much better idea about who we can be.

We are not a top flight offense. But still formidable, since we have both a respectable ground and air attack. We just need to stay relatively healthy

Think the Jet can score 20-24 points consistently.

Just have to keep the opponent under 20. If no bone headed turn overs, I think this D can do it

Three quick things:

- What are the Pats' sites saying about next weeks game?
- I hope the Backup QBs are learning the value of good game management from Fritz.
- I am concerned about our backup RBs; I haven't seen anything from them yet and I don't see Ivory being able to do this all season without a breather.

Probably won't be this week, but the Calvary is on the way.
