The Jets are under no pressure to sign Wilkerson long term. They can tag him, tag and trade, or even tag him again next year if they want. They're completely in the driver's seat and under no pressure to give him a big contract in the immediate future. I don't think Maccagnan's actions suggest he's not interested in keeping Wilkerson. He's gotta decide who's staying and who's going, and there are more immediate decisions that need to be made regarding players like Fitzpatrick, Snacks, Ivory, Powell, Brick and Cro potentially restructuring, ect.

Don't really understand your point.

I didn't say the Bills were interested in Snacks. I said the Pats, and even showed an example of how Lil Bill (Belichick) loves NT's. He also praised Snacks before we played them.

Yes I agree, the Jets could, and I think it's their intention of tagging and trading Snacks. i disagree that they can take their time resolving his issue, simply because before they can pay any of the other FA's they have to know how much they have to pay them with.

If they tag, and can't trade Wilderson that's $16,000,000 real money out of this year's cap. The last thing in the world the Jets want to do is push money on these older players down the road. How Wilkerson's contract is resolved is going to big time affect how the Jets deal with their own FA's, and other peoples FA's. Don't even know why I'm talking about The cap impact. LOL The original discussion was about a scenario where the Jets could, for long term cap reasons, be without both Wilkerson, and Snacks.

And that scenario is, if the Jets think both of them want to much money, it's next man up. Only point. period, that's it. :18:

I edited my post regarding the Bills and Snacks. I misread your post at first, thinking you said the Bills would go after Snacks.

We'll have to disagree about any urgency in signing Wilkerson. I agree that he's an important decision, but I think we'll see him pushed to the back burner in the larger picture. That could include a franchise tag, while they negotiate with the other aforementioned players. The Jets MUST decide on Fitzpatrick and Snacks soon, before they become available to other teams. I'm 99.9% confident that Fitz will be back, as evidenced by the mutual motivation of both sides to get it done. I'd be very surprised if the Jets don't make Snacks priority #2. If he hits the open market, as you said, Belichick will be all over that (and probably about 5 other teams with cap space/need). And that would be a double whammy for the Jets, losing one of the best run stuffing NT's in the game to the Dark Side. The RB situation is up in the air, too. Who knows where the thinking is regarding that.

I wouldnt be shocked if the Jets traded up to draft Lynch if he dropped out of the top 10. I love Petty, but it wouldnt hurt to groom another one in case Bryce isnt the guy.

Dan I agree the Jets are probably going to add another QB in the draft. Just don't see them trading up to 11-12 to get him. Jets only have 6 picks this draft, that kind of jump up would cost them their whole draft. They would have to be convinced the QB was going to be a franchise QB.

Perhaps Macc does, but I don't see any QB's in this draft that are locks.

What I would like to see is in the 3-4th round take someone like Cardale Jones. JMO

I hope Elliott is available.

Although the RB position has been less valued in recent years because of the re-birth of Air Coryell (1980's Chargers for you youngsters) in the NFL, there's no denying that Elliot is the best RB in this draft. He's a complete back who has virtually every trait you want in a RB: great vision, feet, toughness, change of direction, and work ethic. He's an average receiving RB. That's about the only "knock" on him.

I predict someone will take him by the 12th pick. If he's there at 20, it's a no-brainer. He would certainly be the BPA.

Actually I've said this before it is not likely, but possible if Macc sticks to his word of BAP, the Jets could take a LB'er in both the first and second. ILB'er and OLB'er. Fan base would go crazy, but both are positions of need

Fan base has been nuts for years..LOL One thing is certain whoever the pick is posters here will say why it was the wrong pick..

isn't that a universal phenomenon on jet boards, or sports boards in general for that matter??

As sure as the Sun will rise....

There's always a few propeller heads who think they know more than guys who are paid large sums of money to scout these kids. It's almost always a crapshoot, but they'll still say "Even I KNEW Coples would be a bust".

Sure you did, guy.

Connor Cook - no-brainer.
Sheesh, is this really even a legitimate query?
Cook PROBABLY will make it into Jets pick territory after skipping the Senior Bowl.
And who can blame him?
He injured his shoulder late in the year. He wasn't going to throw as well as he could otherwise, when healthy, and he risked unnecessary injury playing with a bunch of aggressive showoffs trying to bump their draft stock at anyone ELSE'S expense.

Sure as the sun shines a LOT of propeller heads are going to be saying the same thing they now do about Derek Carr - "I KNEW he was going to be an Elite QB" - when all along they've been advocating staying away from Cook in Rd 1 - just like they did with Carr.

Anything is possible, I guess. I wouldn't object to Cook if the team feels as strongly as you do about him.

But the only three QB's who I consistently see getting round 1 grades are Goff, Wentz, and Lynch. Most of what I'm seeing with Cook is round 2 or even 3. Might be a reach at #20.

The problems that are dragging Cook down aren't football-related.
He's had some maturity issues, but QBs usually get past those.
Jameis Winston, case in point - and Scam Newton too, for all that he had a little meltdown after losing the Stupid Bowl.

HYATT™ been watching Cook for 3 years now.
The kid has "IT".
More "IT" than the current "QB prospect in waiting", (Petty), at any rate.
HYATT™ would fully expect Cook to beat out Petty for the #2 job behind FitzMagic, by virtue of spending 3 years in a Pro Set offense at MSU.
Art Briles' Baylor is strictly a Spread Offense program.
Bryce be telling coach; "You still got a lot of 'splainin' to do, Kev".
