All this stuff we are finding out about sports players these days because of the technology and how society is makes me wonder about teams in the 70's and 80's. I bet alot of stuff happened and it was never reported.
Imagine if social media was around and phone cameras with Joe Namath, Mickey Mantle, Billy MArtin, Babe Ruth, Reggie Jackson, 86 Mets 77-78 Yanks, ,..I bet a lot less people would be revered...
Not only that, but there was a completely different agenda amongst beat writers. Most scribes protected the players, so precious little was written about their indiscretions. Now it seems like every writer is looking for an angle to get them some mic time on ESPN.
You have to consider the context of the eras and social mores. For example, in the 1970's drinking and driving was socially acceptable. I know that sounds nuts now, and it is nuts, but in the 70's people drove around with a six pack in the car and didn't even bother to hide it, didn't even bother to bag a bottle of beer you were drinking. Thats why you can watch a movie like ARTHUR (Dudley Moore) from that era and see him driving on the FDR drunk, the movie makers didn't think nothing of it, cause at the time that was a social norm, as was smoking anywhere you wanted at any time. Heck people were even smoking in hospitals in the 1970's, even patients!
Anyway, back then boozing and whoring did not carry any kind of social stigma.
So what I'm saying is, you can't just look at the behavior of people from the past and apply todays social mores.

which was pretty much the point. You can really see it in columbo he pretty is smoking that cigar everywhere. No one asks him to put it out for the most part.
And if he go somewhere he can't smoke he usually gives the secretary the cigar to hold until he comes out and she gives it back.
I saw him smoking the cigar walking through a chemical factory and in a dark room for photography

NY Jets RB Mike Goodson arrested on weapons and drug charges Goodson was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a handgun, and possession of a hollow-point bullet. Goodson was incarcerated in the Morris County Jail but was bailed out Friday evening.
Jets rookie WR Aressted for domestic violence
Cops busted Jets practice squad receiver Quincy Enunwa for allegedly roughing up a woman at a New Jersey hotel, authorities said Wednesday.
Enunwa, a 22-year-old rookie and sixth-round pick from Nebraska, was charged with simple assault, stemming from a 7:19 p.m. incident Sunday at the Wyndham Hamilton Park Hotel, according to Florham Park police.
He was booked and released without bail.
Gang Green cut Enunwa to get down to their 53-man roster, before picking him up again for the practice squad on Tuesday.
It wasn’t immediately clear how Enunwa could be disciplined under the NFL’s new guidelines on domestic violence.
The NFL last week announced sweeping new penalties for players busted for domestic violence. First-time offenders face a six-game suspension and a second offense brings a lifetime ban.
“It will be reviewed under the policy,” NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said.
Enunwa is accused of “grabbing the victim by her ankle and pulling her off a bed causing her to strike and injure both her head and finger,” according to charging documents obtained by TMZ.com.
The alleged victim suffered minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital, authorities said.
Both Enunwa and Jets coach Rex Ryan declined to discuss the matter Wednesday.
“I’m aware of the situation, but it’s a pending legal matter so I’m not going to comment on it,” Ryan said.

I don't think those were conincidences either - signing Goodson and Winslow were bad decisions and demonstrated a lack of awreness/control by the organization - and the people responsible for those decisions have been fired. I'm eagerly awaiting the day the Patriots hold themselves to the same level of accountability rather than continually playing the righteous indignation card and pointing fingers elsewhere

It's a bad sign for the Patriots at LB that they turned back to a guy who exposed their injury report fraud. That they went back to Spikes speaks to how desperate they were to add to the LB corps.

Sure, Sack the Pats are weak at LB lol, you must get really tired every offseason picking out weak spots on the Pats roster only to have them usually sweep the Jets, win the AFC East, and compete for a championship in the playoffs. What is it 15 years now? LOL
Yes Sack I'm sure you're as eager this offseason as you've been every off season for the last 15 years for the fall of the Patriots, but sadly for you it's a pipe dream this year especially. Don't take my word for it though, the season will be here soon enough, and you can tell me all about how the Patriots are wining only because of a pound of air pressure in the ball. :stoned-smiley:
do you think the pats are better or worse than where they finished last year in terms of roster composition? and please elaborate on how you think they are better, worse, or perhaps the same, with examples of players added/lost.

Hobson, let me just say that they are better and worse in different places on the roster, like most teams. Also there's a great deal of variable factors that are unpredictable, such as some players being counted on for certain roles that wont produce and other players that much isn't expected that will produce. The one thing that is certain is the Pats coaching staff will have the best of that team on the field wining and as much as you hate it, you know it's true, it's what they do best, adapt to their strengths and weaknesses. The Patriots do this arguably better than any team in the league year in year out. How many Jets fans where jumping up and down writing the Pats off after last years slow start? SG3 had to change his shorts 6 times a day, I hear he almost changed his name to SG6 slippery. Now as to the question of if they are a better team than last year, that's very subjective concept, they could just as easily have a less talented roster and better team. I tend to think many football fans look at individual player talent in a vacuum and fool themselves into believing that this is a video game and the team with the higher player ratings always win, it isn't and it doesn't.
i just hate you barely even hear about this story, if this were a Jets player, it would be non-stop coverage....fact.
