... who got himself into the coaches doghouse by playing too well and outperforming the competition.
If you are paying close attention, something really weird happened this week, unprecedented in terms of anything I have ever seen. The week started when Bryce put on a show verses Washington in the second half of that preseason game, which was even better than the numbers suggested because Sudfled coughed up another scoring drive inside the 10, following another big play in the passing game by Petty, otherwise we're probably talking about three TD drives and 24 Points overall for Petty in the second half, NOT PERFECT, but about as good a performance as anyone could have hoped for or anticipated, and certainly much better than anything Geno has shown us in the preseason ... and prior to that game it was documented all last week that Petty was really coming on in training camp and outperforming Geno there too.
So what was Petty's reward for a terrific week of practice and an equally terrific performance verses Washington?
The very next practice, following an off day, he received a grand total of four reps.
You read that right, that was not a typo ... four reps ... while Geno received the lions share of non Fitz reps.
AND NOW, Bowles has said Petty might not even play at all vs the Giants, cause he wants to get Geno more work.
AND SO, Bryce Petty, following his best sustained run since being drafted, has suddenly morphed into Christian Hackenberg, a guy who can't even get reps on the practice field and is unlikely to even get into the upcoming game.
Honestly, its as if Bowles was aware of the buzz Petty had created around him, how the fans were being convinced he has earned that backup QB spot, and he wanted to choke that growing sentiment in its cradle before it had a chance to metastasize. Thats the only logical explanation for this. Petty is literally the first player in NFL history to get himself into the Head Coaches doghouse by playing too well and making his competition look bad.
