For right price bring back Fitz & if not, lets see what Petty has. He has a strong arm & the most accurate passer of the three,Geno/Hackenburg who are INTs machines. I don't know why Fitz thinks he deserves that kind of money. Good O Line-2 great WR's-2 Good RB's made him look good until Rex showed a Fitz we all remembered ,INTs & out of Playoffs. None of these QB's will take us to Playoffs or Super Bowl unless we build a Denver type Defense that gets to QB's .

With the exception of his sophmore year, how is Hackenberg an INT machine?

Jeez, you do tend to confuse this board with Jet fans at large. One of the papers, I think it was the Daily News had a poll, and I don't remember the numbers, but there was very substantial support for Geno Smith. For good reason imho. With a far inferior offensive team and O. coaching staff, in 2014 Geno had the Jets in position to win both Patriot games, and pitched a perfect game against the Dolphins in the season finale. If Geno had had a chance to play under Gailey and with Marshall and Decker et al, I believe he would have been at least as successful as Fitzpatrick and I would love to see him get that one more chance.

I'm not going to debate this as its been beaten to death more than a dead horse..........but
I've sat in my seats in the three stadiums " we" played in for 45 years ,and belive me I'm not confusing anything . I think I have a pretty good gauge on the Jetfans at large , and if Geno is trotted out as our starter on opening day and does his thing look for a riot.
Oh , and he not only sucks big time but is a classless ass, but that's just my opinion and a select few on this board, I guess .

If geno stayed game one and threw an int, you would instantly have a stadium chanting to cut him. I don't really consider snot rags like the daily news as actual journalism, and could care less what their invented polls say.

Because he didn't have a good year, he had the best statistical year in team history! In the nfl, starting qbs make mid to high teens easily.

So let's see, starters make 15-19 on average, Fitz is our starter, Fitz wants 15. Nope I can't figure it out either!

Googled Ryan Fitzpatrick and found this tidbit....is an American professional football player with an estimated net worth of $24 million.

If that is true then what the hell is he holding out for more money? I mean I can understand his wanting to get "paid" but when your a multi-millionaire do you really need a few million more? Are you that greedy, has the stats from last your affected your judgment/ego when the only team (only being the key word here) that has offer you a starting job and its seems $10 million and your waiting.... again for what?
Yeah! What a loser, he should play for free! What does he need the money for?

So at what level of personal worth does one stop having the right to get paid for the job he's working?

The guy was a30/15 qb in a year when he didn't practice because of a broken leg, and played half the year in a cast, in the first season on the team.

He's worth what someone is willing to pay him. Right now that's 9 mill, when he signs we'll see what mac really thinks he's worth. It's called negotiating.

I honestly think both sided need to move closer and settle on a 2 year contract for about 33.5 Million.... Only the 1st year guaranteed

Year 1 16.5 Mill 12Mill Base 500K if he starts 15 games 500K if he throws 28 TDs or more and 1 Mill for making the playoffs and 2.5 Million if he wins the superbowl

Year 2 18 Million with a $6 Million being a Roster Bonus....

Seems like a win win. to me If he hits the incentives year 1 minus the super bowl He makes 14 Mill.. He misses the playoffs again he makes 13 Mill.... He hits all of them he gets 16.5 Mill and guaranteed we bring him back year 2 and he makes 18 Mill.... Everyone is happy; if any scenario plays out either financially or other wise

Regardless, it will be much more than he earned the last 2 years.
If he was willing to play for 3 mill last year, he's not retiring over 9 mill one year later. And none will pay him half what the Jets offered.

Those figures are way above his market value. No reason to pay that much, if we are already the highest bidder

Everyone hits a point where they're willing to walk away. From all reports Fitz is loaded, so his desire to play may ultimately trump the $ amount.

Just because 3M was enough to keep him going last year doesn't guarantee 9M will this year, especially if he doesn't "need" it and feels slighted by the offer . . .

well, then i guess we'll see if pride trumps fitzpatrick's love of being an NFL starting QB in an ideal situation.....

Why did he get surgery last year and play every game, if he was on the tip of retiring?
The Jets offer to triple or quadruple his salary, in an offense personalized to him, with his favorite coach?

Why didn't brick negotiations go this way?
Jets: Brock we can't pay you what you want.
Brick: ok, I'm retiring.
Jets:Ryan, you're not worth 18 mill at this stage in your career just because we custom built you an offense, and our plan worked.
Ryan: I'm going to sit here for 5 months and wait to get paid. (3 months later) hey you guys gonna pay me yet?
Jets:no
Ryan:eek:k, that's cool. (5 minutes later) how about now?
Jets:no

Yup he's leaning towards retirement, not negotiating at all.

All valid points, but it doesn't change the fact that if we don't budge off our offer he could very well hang 'em up (and I'm in the "don't budge" camp, so I personally hope that's Macc's mindset).

I'm not saying he will retire, or even that he should retire -- but if he truly doesn't need the money it's foolish to think it's a no-brainer that he's coming back regardless of circumstance.

If they already have a handshake agreement, great. But if not, and there truly is a "stare down" going on, I'm not sure either side will ultimately blink . . .

I no longer am in the handshake camp, it doesn't make sense now. Unless they are waiting for camp to make cuts, but that would take an incredible type of faith in Fitz to abandon all of those reps.

I think it's going to be a late minute deal for total value of 12 per for 3 years. The Jets don't want to do this every year if the kids don't progress. And pretty is signed for 4 more years.

What do you think the Jets are offering him now? By all reports it's nowhere near those numbers. I don't think Macc is going to stray much from his current offer so if anyone is going to "sacrifice" I think it's going to have to be Fitz (and I'm not at all convinced he will) . . .

I think the Jets have the original offer of 9 on the table. But I think they'll meet in the middle when it's crunch time. I think the final number winds up being 12.

Jets WR Eric Decker has said on multiple occasions that he wants the team to re-sign Ryan Fitzpatrick, but he's also trying to be pragmatic. "All I can say is we have to move on without him right now because they are stuck where they are with the business decision, where they want to go with the money, who's going to break," Decker said today on SiriusXM NFL Radio. "But, again, we have a job to do and that's to be the best football team, field the best football team, of who we have in the locker room right now."

If the Jets don't sign Fitz, this locker room will be disgruntled. Decker and Marshall clearly do not want geno. Forte said Fitz being qb is the reason he signed.

Mac will have done disgruntled employees if this deal doesn't get done, which is why I think it happens.

need to find some incentives that technically dont hit the cap now - I think the rule is that if it is something he accomplished last season, it is on the cap - so some doable incentives that were not hit in 2015

gotta believe that there is a number that works for Jets and Fitz

gotta hope
