For all those clamoring for the Jets to resign Fitz, please read the linked article in full detail. It makes a sober, detailed, thoroughly documented case that Ryan Fitzpatrick should not be viewed as a starting caliber NFL QB. And it uses last season to make the case, not earlier seasons from his career.

There were certainly stretches last season where Fitz did a nice job for us, but we also lost some winnable games where he failed to make plays that were there to be made. I was on the fence about Fitz but that article crystallized my thoughts about him, and I do not see him as the solution. I think that Mac and the Jets are viewing him very accurately as well, which is why they are holding fast to their offer and refusing to overpay. Honestly, I know this will be hugely unpopular here, but I believe that if Geno had not gotten punched out by IK, then given the chance to play with the Jets improved receiving corp and overall offensive talent, and under Gailey's tutelage, he would have been at least as successful as Fitz was last season, and possibly more so.
Fitz came in with no camp time, a broken leg, 3 weeks of backup reps, and was thrust into the starting roll. He fired up every member of the team according to coaches and teammates.
Marshall had a quote today about never having a qb like him,and not believing the chemistry they developed.
Fitz is far from perfect, but I would love to see last year's offense continue to grow this season.
What basis do you have to believe geno would have been better? Any holes you poke in Fitz could also be poked in geno. Just because you have a feeling as a casual fan doesn't make it fact.
I agree with maccs tactic so far, it assures we will pay market price and Fitz will get a fair contract. He's a stop gap with a lot of upside.
At the end of the season, Brandon Marshall was convinced Ryan Fitzpatrick would re-sign with the New York Jets, saying, "He's definitely coming back."
He doesn't sound so sure anymore.
On Friday, Marshall spoke of his affinity for the free-agent quarterback, praising his intangibles. In doing so, he acknowledged for the first time that the thought of Fitzpatrick playing elsewhere has crept into his mind.
"The way we communicate, the way we practice together, the way we bring other guys together, I’ve never seen that anywhere else -- and I’ve been a lot of places and I’ve had a lot of quarterbacks,” Marshall said Friday on The Rich Eisen Show.
“That’s the toughest thing for me when I think about him potentially putting on another jersey," the Pro Bowl wide receiver said. "What we had and what we have is hard to create. It took us almost a year to do that; well, six months to do that. Most of the time, it takes guys a couple of years. We feel like we’re really close. We have a great defense. We have a consistent offense. We have great coaches. All we need to do now is continue to get more reps with the same guys.”

Fitzpatrick remains unsigned, locked in a stalemate with the Jets. They're far apart in negotiations. The Jets, exploring contingency options, hosted free agent Robert Griffin III on a Friday/Saturday recruiting visit. "An interesting development," Marshall said of the RG III visit.
Marshall spoke glowingly of the Jets' biggest offseason addition, running back Matt Forte. He knows him well, as they played together for three seasons in Chicago.
“He’s the most underrated running back in the history of our game,” Marshall said. “Most people say the last eight years since he’s been in the league. In the history of football, he’s the most underrated running back ever, ever.”
