I love what the Jets are doing here and how their handling this. Don't pay a 33 year old, 6-7 team journeymen QB $18 million when he's not worth more then $10 million. $7 or $8 to be honest. Yeah Keap, RGIII or Petty may not be better options on paper but don't just give in to a guy who has been mediocre at best under any other coach other then Gailey. If Fitz truly wants to walk and not take our $7 to $8 mil offer then let him go and we'll get by until we get our guy. Our guy may not be Kaepernick or RGIII or Petty or Geno but it ain't Fitz either. Especially for no DAMN $18 million a year!!!

not a huge fan of glennon, certainly not to the point of giving up a 1st or 2nd for him. probably wouldn't even give up a 3rd, but could be talked into it i guess.

the thing that bothers me about him is if he's a good as some say he is, why did the bucs bench him for josh mccown in 2014 and then take winston the following draft? if he was any good, why was his team picking 1st overall.

i agree with ham that he's just a JAG QB. not really worth a high pick.

Nobody wouldve passed on Winston, except for the Colts/Seahawks.

Where did the Colts draft after year one of Peyton?

after manning's rookie year, they drafted 4th. after his 2nd year, they drafted 28th

tampa drafted 7th after glennon's rookie year. in glennon's 2nd year, he was benched, replaced by josh mccown, and they drafted 1st overall

IMHO - he isn't worth a premium pick (1st 3 rounds) either. His biggest claim to fame is that Russell Wilson transferred from NC State because Glennon was 1st string. Hasn't done anything since college to warrant the kind of love he is getting. Maybe its the fact that he is tall and has a decent arm like Osweiler, who BTW isn't worth the money he got either.

I dont care about Lovie making a mistake Benching him. Ray Perkins thought Steve Young was hot garbage

Multiple teams are interested in kap, why isn't he traded either? Because the teams are looking to maximize compensation.
Fitz had an offer, why hasn't he signed? Same reason.

yeah, well you could also include griffin in "multiple teams" being interested as well......

if a team truly wants "their guy" they do what the eagles & texans did.. they make it happen before someone else does..

Another thing about Glennon is that he's got 1 year left on his contract. No way Tampa franchises him, so he'll be a free agent next year and will want a big payday. Why would any team trade a draft pick for him now and have to bid for him in the open market next year? And if a team trades for him and wants to sign him, it will cost major bucks.

So a Jets trade for Glennon makes no sense this year. It'll be Fitzpatrick (at the right price), or Hoyer IMO.

excellent points on glennon.. i didn't realize he will be an UFA next season.. no wonder tampa can't find anyone to take him off their hands for what their asking..

before i said i would go as high as a 3.. knowing what i know now, i wouldn't "rent" him period..

That is the biggest thing.

I like Glennon, and if things go sideways with Fitz, I would offer up to a 2nd for him. Two problems. Tampa at this point seems adamant they want a first for him. No way you can trade for him with out a deal in place. Are you really going to give a long term deal to a QB who you really haven't seen play in the NFL all that much?

IMO things will get worked out with Fitz in the end. Right now they are in a staring match. From the rumors I've heard, Fitz is asking for 15, which in today's market is starters money. Can't blame Fitz for trying to get it. Jets are offering in the area of 7. That's a huge divide.

Again IMO after the draft things will get moving again. It looks like there are 2-3 teams looking for a starter. Denver won't pay Fitz. The Browns have the money, but I think they will take a QB early in the draft.

After the draft when starters are pretty close to settled, Fitz will have to soften his stance, Jets will come up to about 11 for a 2 year deal they can walk away from in 17, and pray Petty is ready to go in 17.

Just my opinion of what makes sense

Mike Maccagnan says Jets hope to get Ryan Fitzpatrick under contract

Mike Maccagnan says Jets hope to get Ryan Fitzpatrick under contract

Nine days into free agency, Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick remains a free agent. Jets G.M. Mike Maccagnan hopes it doesn’t stay that way.

“He’s a very good fit for us,” Maccagnan told reporters on Friday. “Our goal is to eventually get him under contract.”

The Jets reportedly are offering Fitzpatrick “backup money.” Fitzpatrick reportedly wants a lot more. Maccagnan essentially confirmed that on Friday.

“At some point in time hopefully we can find a middle ground we’re both happy with,” Fitzpatrick said.

If the recent visit with free-agent quarterback Robert Griffin III was aimed at putting pressure on Fitzpatrick, Maccagnan squandered any leverage on Friday.

“It was more to do our due diligence,” Maccagnan said of the Griffin visit. “He was a player we looked at but our focus is to get something done with Ryan.”

No one else is currently pursuing Fitzpatrick, primarily because teams are waiting to see what happens with Colin Kaepernick. If/when the Kaepernick logjam ends (and if he’s not traded to the Jets), a quick market for Fitzpatrick could emerge.

Unless the Jets are offering Manning a 1000 cases of Bud to play QB you got to figure when the tide comes in Fitz will be on the Jets Island
