I'm clear. As for as the history lesson on what the hat says, no disrespect but that's a history lesson I'll pass on!

most do pass on it which is why they consider it racist, because they don't want the truth of it not being racist.

Maybe you should give a history lesson. Your assuming Renegade is racist because he's wearing the Battle flag of the Confederacy on his hat. Perhaps when you give your history lesson you'll discover that 4 Union States were allowed to keep slaves at the beginning of the Civil War. The Civil war was about states rights over Federal power. The slavery issue was used as the rallying banner by the politicians.

As far as where it came from that Fitz was not healthy when smith was appointed the starter, after both Matt Flynn and Josh Johnson were released, Bowles was asked why he bothered to bring them in, Bowles replied that when they were brought in it was very unclear if Fitz's leg was healed enough to start opening day, and Petty had made improvement.

One would assume that if two weeks before the season started they were still unsure about Fitz's health, that back in June, when Gailey blew the whistle on Bowles that there was no QB competition, they definitively weren't sure, and Gailey alluded to Fitz's leg in the minor spinning that went on after Gailey's statement.

i'm sorry wut?? what NFL contracts are not "multi million??"

this isn't about leverage.. it never was.. this is about how much money the jets are willing to pay fitzpatrick..

if you believe fitzpatrick feels threatened by the jets buying griffin dinner, what can i tell you??

if you believe fitzpatrick feels threatened by smith as a fall back plan?? if so again, what can i tell you??
I think you need to go back and read the comment I was responding to.

That's exactly my point. The comment was made about"springing for dinner"

My point was, I don't think a $100 steal with rg3 makes Fitz feel threatened in any way. And, if we're talking about a multi million dollar contract, why would anyone care about a coach going to dinner with a fa qb? That cost $300?

Just like people think rich white men started the revolution because they didn't like taxes.

The tea tax came out to like $0.06 per year in today's dollar. It was the tyranny of being arbitrarily governed by a lunatic monarch an ocean away. It took 3 months to mail a letter. There were often pressing needs that would take years to resolve, and the colonies were being used solely to build England's wealth.

The local towns held meetings and voted a towns person to represent them at the continental congress. John Adams was a farmer who studied law and died with very little wealth. Jefferson was perpetually broke. Most of the founders found wealth only by investing in the central bank, after having declared war against the world's super power.

He may be & not all suits fit each person. I will trust the jets...this jets staff (LOL) to make that call. in fact I would like us to trade some of our older players for more picks & see Petty grow with them. but we need another young Qb just in case

I'm with you on this. The Jets will never or not anytime soon get a franchise QB if they don't allow them the chance to prove themselves. Now I know they have to see promise during practice, pre-season, otas, film room, locker room, etc etc and maybe Petty hasn't shown it yet. If that's the case then he shouldn't be playing. I'd say if he can give us atleast average play with the weapons they have, they can carry him and he can grow further in the position as the season and years go. Similar to what happened with Big Ben. The Jets have tried the rookie QB route over the past couple of years and we all know how that turned out but that was with the old regime. Plus those QBs didn't have these weapons. I just hope Petty gets ready by training camp so they can just go with him and leave all those other options alone.

The Revolution, The Confederacy, rich white men....

Back on topic, it appears as though this stare down will continue for weeks. Neither side needs to budge much until workouts start next month. In the meantime, we wait for something to materialize with Kaepernick and RG3. I believe that once those dominos fall, we'll see something happen with Fitz. If Dever gets Kaep, Fitz has nowhere else to go. Forget Cleveland. They're taking Wentz or Goff. (Or at least, they should. These are the Browns we're talking about). Fitzptrick is going to sign with the Jets, retire, or sit the year out.

Agreed. I see Denver making that hard push for Kaepernick. RGIII would be their second choice. I'm thinking they believe they can revamp either one of their careers and build them into something special. Fitz is probably over the hill to them and their looking for the the next franchise QB that has some experience under his belt already. Kaep and RGIII fit that bill. I see Fitz being left out with Denver and him having to come back our way on our terms or see you! Browns would be smart to go with either rookie but Wentz might fit their bill better.

I think I said this......Now some say you need to be patient..... I am .......but I want to see us going in the right direction. I hope we are!

So if want to know if I think the Jets are doing everything right ...No I don't If they are doing somethings right yes they are. Is Big mac a very good or great GM? I need to see more from him the jury is still out on him in my book.

I am sorry but you seem to contradict yourself. So your saying NO you believe they are not doing everything right? Big Mac as you call him was left a mess to clean up (terrible drafts, holes all over the place, FO disaster, etc.) so I am not sure how you can say he hasn’t been very good when he got a 4-12 team to 10 wins.

My biggest concern is timing. Now if we are on a five year plan the timing is not as important today. But most of our are top players are old & we have needs. If we get those needs & a young QB most of our older players will be gone by the time they peak.

Yes we do and do you expect him to fix years of benign neglect via the draft from his predecessors? He is trying stop-gap holes through FA and build the team through the draft. That takes time… So what I rather have a sustainable base then what we seen for the last – not last year – 4 years. The 2014 team was tantamount to a joke….

If you think we can win it this year I question that we have the talent to do that. Can we yes we can but the odds don't look good to me as of today. But I am still behind Big mac he just needs to show me more.....again as of today.

I doubt we will win more the 8 game this year regardless of who the QB because of what I stated above… I am not sure what he needs to show you more of? He is waiting to see how QB market shakes out which is prudent and justified. He has placed a value on players and rightly so not over paying for them….

I agree on the 8 wins this year as of today I must say this twice as of today! in fact I will say it three times as of today.

The man had a pocket full of cash to spend last year. So he spent it & brought in players. Yes he did a good job for the year. but to be very good he needs to take us to the playoffs & get a QB a real QB. I just need to see more even if you think he was very good last year was he a one year wonder. We need to judge him over time.

I must say I LOVE the posts coming Mycuz and flgreen. You both made valid points about the dispute and the landscape of the issues going on in those days.

But what's most shocking is how that has culminated into today's state of affairs.

Honestly, this is why I so much hope that Ted Cruz wins the election. He's the ONLY candidate for either party that sounds like he's dedicated to following the constitution. That is truly rare in this day and age.

The 10th amendment has been completely ignored by both parties for a long time and it's BS.

Not that it's any surprise that Democrats don't follow the constitution. They are nothing but a bunch of all over the map dingbats.

But it's most alarming to see George W ignoring the 10th amendment coupled with Obama sh*tting all over the 10th amendment.

Bowles on Fitz: 'Everyone has the right to be stubborn'

Bowles on Fitz: 'Everyone has the right to be stubborn'

theJetsblog -- New York Jets head coach Todd Bowles said both the front office and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick have a right to be uncompromising in contract negotiations.

"It's a business, it takes time," Bowles said at the AFC coaches breakfast during annual meetings. "It's March. We're not playhing right now so everyone has a right to be stubborn."

Jets owner Woody Johnson said on Monday his message to Fitzpatrick, who nearly led the Jets to the playoffs with a 10-6 record, is to "Come back to the Jets." GM Mike Maccagnan said the team's priority is to bring back Fitzpatrick. However, both sides appear to be far apart in negotiations.

"We're working through it," Bowles said. "It'll work out for the best...We want to sign Fitz back but we have a plan in place it case [we don't]."

That backup plan could include free agent Robert Griffin III, the former Washington Redskins quarterback who has twice visited with the Jets in addition to meeting with the Cleveland Browns.

Bowles called Griffin a "bright young guy" and also said Geno Smith is an option to start should the team not re-sign Fitzpatrick.
Fitzpatrick, 33, threw for 3,905 yards, 31 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in his first season with New York last year.

There is no absolute deadline for when the Jets must re-sign Fitzpatrick, Bowles said, and added that even if the Jets don't re-sign him, then it is not a step back.

"You want everything to work out fine," Bowles said, "but if it doesn't, you want to have plans B, C and D in place as well."

let's stay on topic pls. It's an interesting discussion and after a year or so together we've gotten close enough to discuss this issue but it should still be kept off the main board bc as you know, it'll always lead to someone getting offended. This is fair game in the off topic board though!

As this drags on I don't think the Jets should offer Fitz anything more than 2yrs $23 Million.... I don't see any other team offering Fitz more than 11.5 Mill a year....

I feel like Mac is building this team with a very smart approach. Building for now and for the future. Getting the right mix of Veterans and youth.... He needs a good draft this year.

If Fitz doesn't budge and we don't sign him. .... I would not bring in another veteran.. I would draft another guy in the 3rd or 4th round. Let him learn the system and let the chips fall where they may.

I like Fitz a lot for the Jets right now, and really want to see him back. With that said I think your offer is a bit to generous.

Right now the Jets offer of 7 million appears to be the highest bid on the table. The only other team that has even spoken to him is Denver, and they only offered him 5. Elway said there are two kinds of QB's. the elite QB's who you pay 20+ million, and all the rest who you pay 5 million.

Denver also currently has Mark Sanchez on the roster, who I think they are good to go with. They pay Sanchez 4.5 M. They would like to bring in some competition, and a good back up who they can win with if Sanchez goes down. No way they are paying Fitz 12 M

Why bid against yourself? If it would end it, and get Fitz into camp tomorrow, I would go 27 over 3 years, with 12 as a signing bonus spread over the 3 years. if something were to happen they could walk away next year with out a serious cap hit. Or if Petty turns out to be ready in 17 Fitz would be affordable as a good back up, and a mentor to Petty.

Maybe then they could trade smith to Denver so JG13 can get his bag of rocks

if they sign fitz to a deal with a $12MM signing bonus on a 3 year deal and cut ties after 1 year, wouldn't the dead money cap hit be $8 million (taken all next year or split over 2 years)? not sure i'd call that a small hit

The bigger question is, how are we signing these guys? We have 2.3 in cap space, the 2d linemen we just signed, and potentially Fitz. That's 3 contracts that aren't on the books yet. Where's the money coming from?
