Disagree. McCown is a good smart player and good locker room guy-just has trouble staying healthy. If he could stay healthy (big "if") he's as good or better than Fitz. Hoyer is also close to par with Fitz or slightly below. Yes he had an awful playoff game, but he'd be better than Geno for 1/2 the price of Fitz.
Boy we are at the bottom of the barrel scraping out what ever we can
Cardinals are looking at him also...they will not sit on not doing something on their future QB
Josh McCown is who I would fall back on. Trade a conditional late pick for Josh and get a QB for 2 years at around $10M. He has played very well with Marshall and Forte. Otherwise don't pay Fitz more than $12M for two years.

Fitz signs with another team and wins multiple SB's, while the Jets players jet crashes and burns with everyone on board........

I figure Mac, due to the contract stalemate, is encouraging Fitz to shop himself to other teams. He probably informed him if he gets a better offer than what the Jets are offering, BEFORE you sign with that other team, come back to us and we'll match or slightly beat it. Fitz thinks his market value is MORE than 2 years 14 million considering JAG QB's all over the league are getting 15 to 18 million per season. Fitz figures he can get that from some team, considering his numbers were far above that of any other season he's had.
So Mac is telling him......"Shop yourself until your blue in the face. If you can generate a more lucrative offer from any of the other 31 teams in the NFL? PLEASE. Come back to us and inform us of this offer and we'll make every effort to match or beat it."
Luckily, at least so far, it seems like he's not getting any more lucrative deals than what the Jets are offering...........Just my hope.....

Negative! Fitz can walk for what he wants. I'm personally hoping Petty will show he's ready to go this year to atleast give us average play and bumps Fitz and Geno right off the field. I believe if Petty can give us average play, the weapons he has will carry him to pretty good season. Just like they did Fitz.

if the jets don't re-sign fitzpatrick, i would be thrilled with "average" play from petty, BTW..
I'm personally hoping petty is the next Joe Montana/Brady whoever.
But do I think going into camp with petty at the top of the depth chart is smart, no. If we have to we have to, but an effort must be made to bring back Fitz, abs I believe Fitz will be back.
The best thing that happens is Fitz signs and petty beats him out in camp.

Me2 and I would do it now and end the drama... the MKT has SPOKEN but his agent probably saying is hoping that Mac will fold, IMHO I doubt he will and I am glad... he is not worth more then they offered and frankly I think that is being generous for journeyman QB with mediocre stats.

just read griffin got a 15 million two year deal.. he can max out the deal to 22 million by hitting all his incentives.. 3.5 million signing bonus & 6.75 million guaranteed..

yes it is and that is what been offered... he is not worth more and we shouldn't pay more then that. The Market has spoken ...his agent is blowing smoke up his ASS hoping Mac has a brain freeze and will offer more... Time to cut bait trade with browns for McC.

That's exactly what I'm saying. Eventually he gets done shopping himself around the league. Maybe he gets a better offer, maybe he doesn't. Regardless, at the end of the day he comes back to the Jets, sits down with Mac, and the Jets sign him to whatever offer is the highest.
Whether that's higher than 7 million remains to be seen......
Now this I can definitely go with. Jets resigning Fitz at a very reasonable $7 mil a year for two years and Petty beating him and Geno out in camp anyway. It's time for a youth moment that will truly work this time. The Jets need that franchise QB that can give them 15 plus years and help get them a couple of SBs.

No, he made an offer he feels comfortable with. If no one else offers Fitz more, what is he going to do? Retire? If Fitz really believes in himself, then he should sign a one year deal, and prove he can put back to back years together. Then he would get 22 next off season.
