I'm sorry, but this logic makes no sense. Should we wish he looked horrible "in shorts"?
You're obviously going by the assumption that Geno CANNOT improve, and maybe you're right. (In fact, if I had to bet money on it I'd agree with you). But you can't deny we have a better supporting cast/coaching staff than he's ever been given, and it's only his third year in the league. Why would we automatically "move on" when the alternative is Ryan Frickin Fitzpatrick? (Not Joe Montana as some have apparently begun to believe).
The biggest reason I want Fitz in camp isn't so he can automatically become starter, but so Geno has a higher bar to surpass to earn the starting job (don't think he'd have trouble beating Petty/Hack at this point). I can't think of a dumber thing to do than "root" for Fitz to get the starting gig . . .
You misread what I was saying, no one is saying he "should" look bad in shorts, just pointing out the reality that "he has always looked good in non-contact drills" and that has never translated to compete play on the field.
This would be the best supporting cast/coaching staff he has ever had, but I'm still in the camp that if Fitz ever signs Geno doesn't make it our of camp. Fitz is not the long term answer but he is the best option for now and the only viable bridge QB on the roster.

You're right Hat! I tried to put some life in this by posting a satirical piece on Idzik's drafts but that didn't go anywhere. I just hope none of the players do anything stupid during the break. Just stay out of trouble and in shape!

According to ads I've seen during the Mets games, Sheldon Richardson is slimmed down and ready to take his game to the next level!
Hopefully there isn't another suspension lingering for his 2nd arrest last year.

Hopefully. And if there is, I hope the league has at least sent some signal to the Jets that it may be coming, so they can plan for it ... it's kinda weak to just have it floating above everyone's head all this time. If they're gonna do it, just do it.
So we have members of the Jets organization actively rooting against Geno? Purposely hoping a mediocre journeyman outplays a struggling youngster?

But you do agree Geno looking "good in shorts" is still better than looking bad, right? There's not much else the guy can do at this point in the year. To me, that's more a comment to make when he stinks in August, not when he shines in June.
Also, I don't think there's any way Geno isn't on the roster this year -- his number is too manageable, and if Fitz got hurt he's a better option than either of the kids (but what do I know) . . .
don't forget, fitzpatrick gets his job back as soon as he re-signs..
good, bad, right or wrong fitzpatrick is bowles/mac's guy until hopefully petty or hackenberg are ready to start..
My point was it's irrelevant if he looks good in shorts if it never translates onto the field (which to date it never has).
It may be "his job to lose" but you're nuts if you think they're locked into him no matter what Geno brings to the field.
We were talking about a hypothetical world where Jets FO "wants" Fitz to win the job. That they'd prefer Geno NOT show vast improvement because they've already made up their mind who they want and any success he shows just makes that decision a little more awkward.
If that's truly the case then these guys are right up there with all the other idiots we've had over the years, and I for one hope that's not the case (again) . . .
I get it, and again my point is it hasn't translated YET.
Do I think it will? Probably not. But if it's ever going to, then I assume it will start with "looks good in shorts", so for now it appears we're right on schedule . . .

if fitzpatrick gets re-signed, he loses his job because of smith doing well in "shorts??" again.. or perhaps excelling against vanilla preseason defense's is the key??

I don't think we're having the same conversation.
I haven't said anything about what it would take for Geno to take the job from Fitz. I simply said people are nuts if they WANT Fitz to beat out Geno. You said there are team executives that feel that way and there's no way that's based in reality.
BY FAR the best outcome for this team and its future is to not have to count on a journeyman QB behind center. There's a high likelihood that we'll have to SETTLE for that outcome, but it shouldn't be anyone's dream scenario . . .
OK, now you're being dramatic & slamming the same regime you much perfer over the last one.. bowles is on record saying the job is fitzpatrick's if/when he re-signs.. you want smith to start next season & cut ties with fitzpatrick?? outstanding.. i don't & you haven't posted anything that points to the jets wanting that scenario either..
