Fitzpatrick Thread -- Ryan Fitzpatrick, Jets agree to 1-year, $12M deal

My son decided to bring the plague home with him, so I've been out of commission.

Hack was always a wild card, John gruden would have taken him in round 1 pick 3. He was and is an unknown, and his story always was, will somebody take him early and gamble.

He's a big body, big arm, leader, with piss poor tape that's not his fault, and had taken quite a beating. Definition of a gamble.
My memory must be wrong, I remember a lot of reports all over the place putting him late 3rd early 4th.

Really my point though, was this, drafting him mid 2nd round by the Jets, as a 4th qb was quite an investment because of the quality of"position players" that were available.

The Jets are a team that had issues with depth and a lack of young starters, and that 2nd pick was vital. As is getting those picks right. So we chose to gamble our 2nd pick on a project 4th strong qb with good measurables. It might turn out great for us, but that doesn't make it less of a gamble.

Mac is a personnel guy, and I like his choices thus far.

Fitz will sign a ONE year deal before TC.Fiyz is betting on himself and really I admire that. That's the only real solution I can see....

i still believe a deal gets done just before training camp because at some point the jets will set a deadline..

that said, i don't think smith continuing to practice well in training camps & preseason games (because that's what he does) is enough to scare fitzpatrick into signing before a deadline is set..

is the one year deal a hunch or have you heard something??

I don't think the Jets can sign him to a one year deal. I think they have to spread out his salary into other years for cap purposes. If it is a one year deal it won't be for 12 mill. it'll have to be less because, i don't think the jets cap can take that hit.

Just a hunch. And to tell you the truth this is is me going completely out on a limb. I know Ryan Fitzpatrick's Left Tackle at HHarvard, he still in touch with Fitz regularly. Goes to the Harvard/Yale game with Fitz and others. He CLAIMS Fitz is going to sit home for as long as it takes for the Jets to finally cave. OR he will wait until some team loses their starting QB and he'll get what he wants. I completely disagree with him all the time. I tell him constantly that there's no way he's going to sit home. That's not happening. He's not going to give up on football when he has a 400% raise on the table for this season. But he claims Fitz will sit home for as long as it takes.

That's what I think. I think he will ultimately sign for one year around 8 million. He's going to bet on having another good season with the weapons at hand and then go back into FA after the season.

very interesting stuff.. gotta say fitzpatrick may need to do a better job with who's in his inner circle.. that would seem to very much be "need to know" information..

unless fitzpatrick's college LT is just breaking balls with jets fans just for the sake of it.....

His /my favorite brew goes without saying. I wouldn't be such a sore loser to buy him some cheap Texas light sh*t. I would get him something he truly enjoys andf I'm sure he would do the same. I don't even really know him, just a guy I know in passing and had some brief pleasant conversations with him. But yes, I am wit you, he will be paying me off. The last conversation we had I told him , "With all due respect to academic pedigree, your academic pedigree does NOT beat the strength of my argument. The market has spoken in reference to Fitz. There's one team offering Fitz starter money and that is the Jets. Fitz is not an idiot, he will eventually embrace the Jets offer."

Yeah, maybe....
Fitz only has 2 plays, take the Jets money, hope for an injury. The injury route is very risky, and most other teams have already used up their cap space, they aren't paint him more than the Jets, and no other team is going to sign a replacement to a long term deal.

Very true, but once again Fitz CLAIMS to be sitting out, even sitting out the season tand that point he would give up football altogether before he would agree to the Jets offer. I ththat claim is hogwash, pure and simple. There's no way h's going to sit out the season and holding out is NOT going to get him more money during the regular season, all teams cap space is used up and even in the injury route he's not going to get what he wants. His only option is to accept the Jets offer. But at that rate, I still belive he can sign for only one season.

I agree, he's an idiot if he's willing to sit out of football this year. He has his ideal team and coach

It wouldn't be just this year. If he decides to go down this road, he'll essentially be retiring permanently because there's no way Fitz could come back after an entire year off from football. That's like a death sentence for most football players.

And sitting out a year would not increase his value next year.
