I think Geno gets at minimum a couple of weeks. First off, Petty has just started practicing after a 5 week layoff and is not ready. At least Smith has been getting first team reps. Once the season is officially in the books, meaning we are mathematically eliminated from playoffs, then we will see the two QBs who will be under contract for next year.

My sense is Geno gets more than a week. My inclination would be that with a later bye, Petty or Hack gets the start coming out of the bye. However, that game is the Pats. Would the organization put one of the kids in that spot?

What interests me most about this move is twofold: 1) Will Gailey try to balance the attack with more emphasis on run and TE (ASJ?) in the passing game; and 2) will we finally see our 'field stretching' WRs utilized.

I'm interested in seeing how Gailey changes the attack. Hopefully, he balances out the attack with more runs, play action and use of TE as a receiving option. Maybe we finally get to see guys like Anderson, Peake and Smith stretch the field. Smith definitely creates different options, let's see what he has learned sitting the last season and a half. It can't be any worse than what we have witnessed the last 5/6 games.

I know most likely it's not going to make much of a difference in the results because he's not that much better but I am so happy and excited, I don't know what to do right now. Hopefully they cut Fitz -interception-Patrick and we can move on because when and if Geno flops, then Petty will come in. Smiles all around and Thank God!

if clicking the trade button in the above chart one would notice the Jets would incur a deficit this year of $3 M...

for the Steelers or any other team receiving Fitz they would only owe (pay) him the remainder of the $2 M base salary while the Jets are on the hook for the other $10 M this year and $5 M next...

Fitz was never meant to be anything other than an insurance policy. I firmly believe that last year and this were supposed to be Geno's audition. Then the 'punch' happened, then the career year happened. Now we are back to square one with potentially a 10 game audition for Smith. But because of all that has happened, and Bowles/Macc having been exposed to Geno for the past year and change, that 10 game audition could be pretty brief.
