jets can free up 200k this year and $1.3 mill next if they cut him; if this management team felt that way, he'd be gone by now.

I don't see the team parting ways from Smith, at least not until the end of the season

I think that is the disconnect that we are having here on this board. I would label myself as a Geno supporter but that's because I want to give him a chance to play out. If he falters than by all means get him out of here. I'll be the first to call for his head.

Geno haters don't want to see him out on the field at all. They've seen enough.

That's where I am. I used to be a much stronger Geno supporter, but realized he is down to his last bullet this year with an ultra short leash...which is all he deserves. If chan can't get it out of him, we are left still looking for our guy. Maybe it's petty, maybe it's not...but I'll feel we aren't going anywhere w/o a QB. Surely won't go running around like a school girl predicting 12-4 with no QB...If we fall into it, great. But reading that knowing Fitzpatrick is our QB just sounds like a homer. Again, if a Vikjngs fan walked up to me and said we are going 12-4 with fitzpatrick at QB, I may not be mean to his face, but in the back of my head id be thinking, man, that guy is going to be disappointed.

http://nypost.com/2015/08/12/smug-geno-smith-goaded-his-sucker-puncher-ex-player/

It started with a dare.

Ryan Clark, an NFL analyst for ESPN, gave a blow-by-blow Wednesday morning of how the drama between Jets quarterback Geno Smith and now-former reserve linebacker IK Enemkpali unfolded after speaking with two players who were in the locker room.

Smith “put his fingers” in his teammate’s face before he was sucker-punched, sustaining a broken jaw that will sideline him for at least six weeks.

“These guys were in each other’s face,” Clark said on ESPN’s radio show “Mike & Mike.” “Geno put his finger in his face and told the guy, ‘Well, you’re not going to do anything about it.’”

He was wrong, as the tough-guy comments caused Enemkpali to knock Smith to the ground with a single punch. The trouble started when Enemkpali laid out $600 for Smith to travel to a football camp in July. Weeks went by and he didn’t get reimbursed.

“It became about the fact that Geno wasn’t necessarily apologetic and being in a way remorseful about the money when saying he was going to pay IK back and he didn’t,” said Clark, a former safety with the Steelers, Redskins and Giants. “He was rather smug about it.”

Clark knows from his own dealings with Enemkpali that the hulking 24-year-old doesn’t mess around when it comes to his money.

“This guy is really tight about money, he really is,” Clark said. “He couldn’t [move on].”

He added he’s spoken to Enemkpali since the fight, saying he was “extremely apologetic.”

This is so tired. Ryan Clarke wasn't there...so who told Ryan Clarke this, do we believe the guy who wasn't there, or the now 4 guys who says this isn't how it happened? Revis, Mangold, Colon, and Marshall have publicaly said this isn't how it happened...but the unnamed NY Daily guys and the Unnamed person who told Ryan Clarke is right?

A better question is, does it matter any more?

"Geno haters don't want to see him out on the field at all. They've seen enough."

I think this pretty much sums it up. There are lots and lots of people I love who I don't ever want to see take a snap as QB of the Jets. It can't be personal, because I don't know Geno personally, and have no idea what his personality is actually like. It's just that, based on what I saw last year, I don't think he's good, and the frustration arises when people try to convince me that what I saw last year was some kind of illusion, and that if you massage the numbers the right way, he looks ok.

I just think (a) if you can look at Geno's numbers from last season and present them in such a way that it looks like he played at an acceptable level last year, then you could do it with anyone, and to do so is meaningless, and (b) it is easy to convince yourself that there is potential, during the offseason, but when games were actually happening, and they actually counted, did anyone want Geno playing, or think that he played at an adequate level?

Like, to me, he had his chance, and he failed, miserably, in every way possible. He didn't do anything to me that would earn him another chance, but we are forced to give it to him anyway, by default. That's frustrating to me, because I don't really share the opinion that improvement is likely, or even possible. I could easily be wrong, and I hope I am, but in my mind, handing him the team is not likely to produce favorable results. Far from believing he has earned the right to continue to play for the Jets, I am of the opinion that he has proven that he should not be playing for them.

So try not to get too mad, guys, because who really would want to turn the QB position over to a player they don't believe has the ability to play the position well? If I thought, for some reason, that Drew Carey would be a great QB, and truly believed he had the potential to take the Jets to the Super Bowl, would it matter to you? Or would you still feel that, despite my belief, he is not likely to succeed, and therefore, you wouldn't want him to play? That's all this argument is, really. A bunch of people making arguments as to why they believe Geno has potential, and a different bunch of people saying "we don't agree, and we don't want to give the QB job to someone who we do not believe has the potential to play well." Past events support the latter argument more than the former, IMO, but the future remains to be seen.

I 100% flipped on Geno based on his role in the fight. Geno was responsible for the whole fight. IK is only responsible for a momentary lapse in judgment. Geno could have avoided the fight completely months ago. Fitz may not be great, but he has seen everything which Geno has not. He is better than Sanchez and better than 1st two years of Geno. Fitz will bring a calm to the huddle. He knows the offense and the OC knows him and his strengths and weaknesses. I always felt the Jets organization and players had to talk themselves into Geno being good. I think they knew deep down he wasn't a leader. I've moved on from Geno. This is Fitz's team for them 1-2 years until Petty or someone else is ready.

i've absolutely seen enough but i don't "hate" the kid.. a complete lack of respect for him is more accurate.. that & i legitimately believe he's not a bright guy.. i would go as far as saying he's an idiot & a village idiot should not be an NFL QB, starter or backup, IMO..

then throw into the mix he absolutely panics when the lights get to bright for him & i don't believe you can coach that out of someone..

Anyone here named Todd Bowles or Mike Mcaganon you can continue to tell us how it is.

The rest of us need to wait and see what the jets organization does and talk about that rather than trying to predict or argue about something that neither of us has any clue.

ps the writers are paid to write stories the more papers they sell the better it's why you rarely see good deeds in the news but we hear about every time a crime happens it's called yellow journalism and it has been around since the early 1900's.

I believe our sports beat writers adhere to a part of the yellow journalism where they can write whatever and just say well sources told me and since sources are allowed to stay hidden except for in the case of a major crime then even the media hacks have no clue or could be trying to up their readership.

anyway that is my little diatribe carry away arguing about useless stuff.

Actually caring about the Jets would require wanting the worst QB in the NFL 2 years running to be removed as the starting QB before he could ruin a third one.

Thankfully, Smith brought that about all by himself by welshing on a debt, stiffing a charity formed to help disadvantaged kids and then assaulting and threatening a teammate for asking him about it.

If that's the sort of leader you wish for the Jets, that's fine. Doesn't work for me, so I guess I'm not, by your definition a Jet fan

Stiffing a charity devoted to disadvantaged kids? He had to pull out last minute because a friend of the family was killed in a motorcycle accident.

I'll let Geno off the hook for bailing on a charity event to attend a funeral.

Also, the alleged "assault" is very debatable. That sounds like some serious reaching there.

The guy's a millionaire and he couldn't offer something to "make up" for an unfortunate absence (never mind repay a wasted expense)?

Feel free to defend him - I don't have it in me. I guess that make me a hater . . .

So do we call Geno, Mr. Jawbreak now like we call Sanchez, Mr. Buttfumble? What a fucking idiot, I had such high hopes for this kid this year. Well since he got drafted really. Idiot!

The bottom line for me is I can understand everything thing you said about his reasons for not attending the event and can live with it with no problem. Where he lost me forever is not immediately paying back expenses advanced to him plus on top of that write another check to the charity to help make up for his absence. He had more than a month to do so and never did IMO that showed no class on his part. I will leave out any comment on the confrontation because a lot is speculation but I think we can all mostly agree on the facts about the charity event.
