i don't think you can base Bowles's success on the losses to Rex. It doesn't matter who he lost to, tbh.
Mac is on his way to developing a good team. We just need to have some patience and let his players pan out.
I agree you shouldn't base Bowles job security on whether or not he beats the Bills, but the collapse at the end of last season is the big thing. It really could have been any team. The point is, Bowles was unable to get the team into the playoffs. This year? Bowles has been so incompetent that it just lets you know that all of the success from last season was total luck and a cupcake schedule.
On top of that you have to consider all of the other problems with the team. Veteran players that are most normally reliable becoming problems and setting a bad example for all of the younger guys. These are problems that a guy like Bill Parcells has never gone through because he is enough of a disciplinarian. Todd Bowles is nothing like Bill Parcells. Based on what I've seen in almost two seasons, I think Todd Bowles is a guy that talks a big game, but he has not subjected any of the players to that discipline?
And other things like him not changing the lineup? Does everyone remember 1999? After Vinny went down, the team immediately went into a tailspin and started 1-6. Parcells said and I quote to the media, "I'm done. I'm not going to deal with this shit. I am going to make changes and get this team to start playing better." Parcells decided to bench Rick Mirer and went to Ray Lucas, he made a few other changes in important areas of the starting lineup and depth. Then miraculously the team started playing better? In fact they closed out the 1999 schedule having gone 7-2.
Now we look at Bowles and what we see is a guy that is allowing this tailspin to happen not only through 7 games but through the entire season. He has not made any significant changes from the start of the season right up until now..........
I just don't think we should base our opinion of his tenure on the two games against the Bills .
But when it was really on the line that final must win game was very telling.
And the topper is he loses to the coach that was fired. Between those two loses to Rex last year and this years shitshow , I don't know how Woody lets it go on.
I hope they lose out also, but I don't think Woody will fire TB if they do. The 10-6 record last year will or should buy TB another year or two atleast. Rex got six years out of this deal and yes his first two years were great but the last 4 were horrid. He should have probably been fired after year 4 as fast as they fell off the map after his first two years but he didn't. Not a black or white thing but winning should say something and TB did win his first year here. That should buy him another year or two. If he doesn't do something good next year, he's on the hot seat IMO.What's really worrying is what is highlighted? You are absolutely correct that they shouldn't play for wins. However, the Jets play a pretty bad 49ers team tomorrow and I am very worried they may win? It would be typical Jets for them to start winning now with virtually no chance at the playoffs and possibly end up with another year of Todd Bowles.
I am hoping that they lose out. If they finish 3-13, that ensures they will get a great player and hopefully that bad of a record would make Woody make a change.....
pump the breaks.. we wouldn't want to be confused with the browns.. oh, wait??I hope they lose out also, but I don't think Woody will fire TB if they do.
