Is it at all possible that Geno Smith has developed this year to being a real QB this year?

geno was the worst. period...as you say, or was he one of the worse? As an example, free agents Hoyer and McCown, were they not worse than Geno last year (I'll answer my own question, yes, they were worse in every statistical and eye ball category)...so how can Geno be "the worst." And Geno has 2 years (1 when he put up last year's numbers)...how long were those guys in the league as of last season?

Point being, he wasn't the worst, is 24, improved in every aspect of the game year 1 to year 2 (these are facts, not the bias emotional Jet fan opinion) and there is a small percentage he'll improve again. Will it be enough? probably not. But there's a lot of over stating going on by the Geno bashers.
I believe Geno's stats were the worst if they actually were because his teams, GM and coaching was the worst the past two years. His team year one the offense was the worse probably in the NFL in 10+ years. Year two his defense was the worst in years period under sexy rexy and the offense wasn't much better. I believe he will be much better this year regardless as to what anyone thinks. The stats you put up and arguing I'm guessing on his behalf that proves his improvement doesn't matter to some. They want him gone regardless. Even at the cost of playing a garbage 10 year wash out ring around the rosey player from team to team.

I'm looking forward to it also. Let's see if Geno's got it or not. Nothing will be handed to him. He has to earn it all. From OTAs to training camp through pre season to game one and beyond. Let's go Jets and let's go Geno Smith!

As you know I'm really not looking forward to it with Geno. I don't want to throw away another year to see if he improves. If by some chance he does ( and pigs fly outa my ass ) I'll be happier than a pig in shit. Lotta pig references ....It kills me when we lose 1 game never mind a whole season of garbage. I've backed this team for 43 years as a season ticket holder and I , as we all do want a winner. This year..
With that said, if Geno wins the job and the Jets have a winning season
I'll eat shit and bark at the moon
Go Jets

Lol, that just might happen my friend. Geno has no excuses this year. Much better team and even coaches and management. If he doesn't improve this year then he is gone. Who knows, he may not even win the starting job or play his out of it right out of it. I doubt that seriously but if he losses to Fitz or a rookie not named Winston or even Mariota, he doesn't deserve to be on this team and leading our beloved Jets to a winning season. Time will tell, let's go Jets let's go!

If you throw out the baby after only two years, you will never have a grown child and we will never have a home playoff game again

Item #2 : Surround any mediocre or even bad QB with a sterling OL and pro bowl skill players and you have an NFL MVP. Anyone remember Earl Morrall, 1968 NFL MVP?

Just sayin'

Wow. Look at that. Can't believe how bad Bradshaw's first two seasons were. This should quell those looking for Geno's scalp. But somehow, I doubt it will. But still, thanks for the link.

I don't care who the QB is next year and beyond. I hope we find someone that will drive the bus and like Bowles said "there are more ways to skin a cat". he also said there were only 5 franchise QB's or if you want to stretch it to maybe 10. He will win with whatever QB doesn't lose games for his defense and running game. I'm fine with that as I have seen other teams win SB's with that very formula.

Wow, who would have thought a QB could actually turn things around after two horrible first seasons. I didn't think it could be done! Geno has talent and can be a very good QB in this league. Questions is, does he have the drive, mental toughness and brains to put it all together. If Bradshaw and others can do it then so can Geno. Let's go Geno, let's go. J-E-T-S Jets Jets Jets!

I understand where your coming from and I originally felt the same way but others have changed my mind. Its become sorta personal. Now I'm rooting for Geno more importantly because he can actually be a very good QB and ours at that but also just to shut the haters up as I was once a hater of him myself. Maybe wrong but it is what it is.

Funny

I was once a lover of Smith

I thought he was a great value pick

Even when he sucked in his rookie year, I chalked it up to bad weapons and being a rook. After all we finished with 8 wins and I figured he would improve in year 2

Sadly he regressed to 3 wins. I gave up after the Bills game when he threw 3 Sanchezes in the first quarter, got benched and sat in the corner not even rooting for his teammates

The sad story is that it isn't about haters

It's about a crappy QB playing crappy football and a bad teammate and leader to boot

Time to move on

Correction - Statistically he did improve, team was worse. I don't know how you can ignore certain facts that have been laid out in front of you. Generally speaking Ryan's teams have had no coherent direction offensively in his 6 year tenure with the Jets, and the offensive talent pool hit rock bottom in Smith's rookie year. There are mitigating factors to Smith's poor early performances, but there have also been some shining moments that give any neutral observer reason for hope. Let's see what he can do with 2 years under his belt, better resources around him and hopefully an offensive scheme and coach more tailored to his skill set. If the light doesn't go on, then you move on. As far as bad teammate, wherever you got that is news to me, and I follow this team pretty damn close.

Pointless in you responding period. Some posters won't see it any other way until their forced to. Hopefully Geno forces them to see him in a different light this year. Every point you make is rock solid and facts at that but trust me, your waisting your time. So stop while ahead because your just hurting you fingers typing my friend.

Funny part is I gave up in Geno in that very same Bills game with the three Geno/Sanchez like ints. I even stopped watching them play pretty much because that was the game I know there was no coming back for a winning season. I was so disgusting with Geno and they way the team was put together period and Rex still being the coach.

I've been rejuvenated by all this back and forth and I started this thread because I looked at the facts as they were at the time. I realised, we may be stuck with Geno anyway this year so maybe he can be what we need this year and beyond. The Foles trade fell through, there was no talk at the time of any other trades.

There were no real value FA QBs out there, even Fitzpatrick and the rookie QBs was what it is now. Winston is out the question period unless they trade up. Doubt seriously that happens. Mariota I don't feel they believe he is worth the #6 pick and all the other rookies I don't think can beat Geno out period.

You're right. .I give up...keep dreaming and hoping based on those marvelous "improvement stats" skewed to the point of nonsense by his one meaningless game against the Dolphin practice squad

Fortunately MacBowles are to smart to sit like fools and watch Jamarcus Part II drag their newfound coaching and GM careers down the toilet as he did those of Rex, Mornhinweg and Idzik.

Looking forward to Ryan Fitzpatrick leading the team to a successful season and ending the Geno Error for good

This will be my last post that mentions the West Virginia BUST in any way. I look forward with hope to his final exit from Florham Park to whereever his next endeavors, in or out of football take him

FTR - I think with your comparison to Russell, you just exposed your underlying issues with Smith. Why not compare him to Leaf or Nagle, or are they too white to fit your narrative?

Call it what you want, but when you continually ignore the facts by saying things e.g., "Geno got worse in 2nd year" when the statistics show otherwise, then you have to wonder where the criticism is coming from. Its clear to me that your criticism goes way beyond any objective analysis, and is a more visceral hate. Sorry if I have mis-charachterized you, but reading your baseless rants makes me wonder.
